  1. Wow, what a coincidence, I was just about to post and see if there were any CT's on the Whisk. I too applied, but received an emailing stating that I had to know someone on the Whisk that would vouch for me. I'm slowing venturing into B&B, so I wanted to find another source of helpful research and feedback. -Jessica
  2. Well, I haven't used it for my pillars, I used 1240 for those. I haven't made any pillars in a while, well since I ran out of 1240 actually. I use the HL wax for my tarts and votives, but I mix it with my soy/paraffin blend. I agree that the only way you will know if it will do exactly what you want it to is to try it and compare. We all want to achieve different things. Good Luck! -Jessica
  3. The wax I get from Hobby Lobby is from Crafty Candles. As are most of their FO's, but those I don't use. Well, I was guilty of it when I first started, but I learned my lesson quick. HTH! -Jessica
  4. This is exactly what I do! We have two here, one on each side of town. I'll print several coupons, then go to both one day and then again in a few days. The coupon makes it an excellent option. They do this ALOT! So does A.C. Moore if you have one of those around. I've noticed that Michael's, Hobby Lobby and A.C. Moore alternate their 40% off deal, so each week it seems as at least one of them is running it. -Jessica
  5. I also use the Ball Mason Elite jars for my wickless! I love the look of these jars.
  6. I use both liquid and the reddi-glo chips with my 70/30 and I've never had any frosting. I've used about 25-30 different FO's (both GL and others) in this wax and at least that many color chips. I was getting pretty big wet spots, but now I am heating to 190 and pouring around 170-175 and just before pouring I hit the jars with my heat gun. When I'm finished I make it "cozy" with foil and a towel to let it cool much slower and no more wet spots! HTH -Jessica
  7. It does appear that way, and personally I think it's sad and just plain rude. If you're tired of answering the same questions over and over again...Don't reply, it's just that simple. It takes the same amount of time to answer their questions as it does to tell them to learn to use the search feature. Come on people! I know some questions do sound silly, and others just shouldn't have to be asked, but when someone is asking a reasonable question they deserve an answer. JMO, for however little it's worth.
  8. A friend of mine recently held a True Romance party(adult toys, lingerie, etc) and they were selling their version of this. It comes in a silver gravy boat type container and we all tried it. They don't even extinguish it before pouring it on. In my opinion it was very greasy and smelled like a blown out candle. I personally would never purchase one, if I want lotion, I'll buy lotion, if I want to burn a candle, I'll do just that. You will never be able to keep it away from "the stupid people" and even if you put do not ingest or something similar on your product, it doesn't mean that anyone is going to see it or even heed your advice. This particular company kept referring to it as pure soy, so what's to keep any regular Joe from thinking this is the same as any other soy candle on the market? IMO, it's just not something I would want any part of, buying, selling or using. But, that's just me! I honestly don't mean to offend anyone who does make and sell these, just my opinion of the one that I did try for myself. -Jessica
  9. It wouldn't hurt (too much) to get a slab and play around and see if it works for you. It definately is cheaper than shipping another wax. I don't sell yet, just make for myself, friends, gifts and lots and lots of testing for future selling, but it is worth it for me, especially if I run out of my other paraffin.
  10. Every now and then I have used their wax and mixed it with my 70/30 for tarts and a few votives (when in a pinch) and I've actually had pretty good results. I get good hot and cold throw. Not something I'd want to use all of the time, but it does work, at least for me.
  11. I bought mine at Harbor Freight for 9.99 and I love it! Best investment yet, well besides the Presto! -Jessica
  12. I don't think anyone is "making fun" of you, we're all just shocked that you're already selling when you know you have a defect in your product. To me, selling is selling no matter who your customer is. You are charging them for a product which is still in progress. Just icky business, IMO, which is just that. I agree with Hope, I think you'll have better luck with better wicks and getting a good sample pack is a great idea. -Jessica
  13. I agree, go with what you will enjoy and want to learn. And then prepared to deflate your bank account! I started with votives and for me it was a good starting point. I got to understand the wicking issues, additives, color, pour temps, etc. and all the while not being too wasteful. I could use a small amount of wax with each experiment and if it bombed, I wasn't out too much. Then I moved to pillars, and now I've been working on containers for a few months. Good luck, and remember to keep it fun! -Jessica
  14. I also use tealight wicks in my floaters! -Jessica
  15. ROFL, we're all thinking the same thing and shaking our heads! At least the OP is getting some real advice before the flaming starts. I'm still a n00b too, but I know better than to ask any question that may in any way be viewed as controversial to any one! Sad, but that's just how it is. Luckily never been me, but I've seen many others roasted. -Jessica
  16. As I've said before, I have a lil' experience with straight paraffin making only votives, pillars and tarts! That's it, just a few months, but now that I have gotten the results I want with those, I decided that's not enough. On to containers!! Woohoo! So, I've gathered lots of goodies, and requested some samples, etc and I've finally made my first few "quality" candles. I've played around with cheapo supplies (craft store) just to get comfortable with the process, but haven't had much luck. Bad ingredients=bad product I know, I just wanted to "play". This is what I've poured so far: 9oz balmoral, cbl 125, Peak's Mango Papaya, colored melon(only approp. color I had) and a LX22. So far so good, great one pour, smooth and creamy, no wetspots(so far), pretty good cold throw. It's got a great hot throw, even and full melt pool, jar is not too hot. It's on it's first burn, so we'll see. I also poured a couple of flower pot votives using the same wax, FO, and my 44-20-18 zincs that I use for my votives, once again just b/c it was the smallest I had. These have great throws, and are burning beautifully. I wasn't sure the wick would work, but so far it is. Great melt pool, no hang up, good clean burn so far. I will post some pics as soon as I can, I want to see what you guys think, but my husband left the camera at work..Oops! When I finally have something I'm proud of! I'm so excited!! My GL 70/30 came today and I'm dying to work with it, but will have to wait til Sunday! Good things come to those who wait, but I want it NOW!! Ok, spending all day every day with my 17 month old and her friends is rubbing of on me :rolleyes2 Just wanted to share my excitement! And thank everyone for the help thus far! Have a great weekend! Jessica
  17. I'm so excited, yet bummed at the same time! My GL 70/30 and Ind. Teak, Birthday Cake and my wicks just arrived! WooHoo!! Downside is we have our first festival of the season this weekend so I can't play with it til Sunday! My hubbie and I do booths in the children's area with sand art and temporary tattoos! Saturday will be beautiful so I'll go and take my daughter, but Sunday is gonna rain all day so we'll send hubbie to the festival and we'll stay home and play with GL!!! Yippee!!!! I have been messing around with crappy (craft store) supplies trying to figure out containers, and this week I've finally made my first few quality candles, with some wax samples that Candlewic sent me, and all of the goodies I've collected from the classifieds. The bug that bit me just keeps growing....and our bank account shrinking! Before I went overboard buying for my daughter, now it's candle supplies! Happy pouring, Jessica
  18. Here is one of my pillars that I have embellished the wick. I love doing this, I think it adds something to it. Thanks for looking! -Jessica
  19. Here are some watermelon votives I made with 4794 and scented with Peaks Watermelon. Throwing myself to the wolves (j/k) -Jessica
  20. Thanks! I'm so glad to hear it that it is capable of doing double duty and making good votives! Do you mind if I ask why you add soy to it for your tarts? Is for the throw or the hardness of the wax? Just taking noob guesses. I've been using 4794 for my pillars, votives, and tarts and it does a great job, just curious. I can't wait to get my samples from Candlewic! -Jessica
  21. Thanks Rachel! Glad to hear that you had success with it, I'm not sure I like that it pulled away from your container though. I don't know if I could live with the rattling. But then again, if it has great throw, good even burns, and will make good votives too, I may be able to deal with the pulling away. Thanks gain! I sent an email to Candlewic this afternoon about getting some samples. Hopefully they will grant my request -Jessica
  22. Hi there! I'm thinking about trying it out, and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it? I want to give it a try since they say it will do double duty for containers and votives. Looking for any input or opinions on this wax. Mainly I'm curious if it will make good container candles and votives? I'd love to find a wax that will do both, so I don't have to use two separate waxes. Thanks in advance! -Jessica
  23. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Nina- My daughter's name is Abby Rose See ya around! -Jessica:yay: (I love this guy)
  24. Hi everyone! I've been lurking, reading and spending way too much time in the classifieds lately, so I decided I better introduce myself:cheesy2: I'm Jessica, I'm a stay at home mom to the most beautiful 16 month little girl. I have only been making candles for several months, I learned from a friend who used to make and sell her candles full time. The benefit was in the beginning I could use all of the same stuff and get great results, but now I want to do more. She only made votives and pillars, and only in parrafin. I've decided to try my hand at containers, and I also want to try the soy blends. So I've ordered my GL 70/30, my containers, and spent lots of money in the classifieds on lots of yummy FO's and other goodies. I can't wait for everything to get here, so I can get started!! I'm sure I'll have some questions, but I have NO doubt that someone here can answer them! I've read ALOT of posts, and gotten a ton a great information from you all. I'm so glad I found this site. I look forward to getting to know everyone, and I forsee myself being here alot! Have a great weekend! Jessica
