  1. I kept the name Monkey Farts because people get a kick out of the name and it is one of the first scents they pick up and after they smell it they usually buy it. Another one that sells for me in the spring and summer are Lick Me All Over which which I changed the Jolly Rancher FO too. And Butt Naked. People have such dirty minds. They all sell well this time of year for me. Stephanie
  2. Hi I had that very same question a few months ago. I did a search on here by typing in wholesale tart warmers or burners. I finally decided to buy from obi wholesale. Their burners are reasonable and shipping wasn't bad and only took three days tops. They are in Indianaapolis I believe, anyhow check them out you can only see their prices if you register with them and I think you need a tax id number or not. I got 48 burners for 261.00 including shipping and I live in Pa by the way. I have sold all but 15 and everyone really likes them. Only thing is you buy by the case and you can mix up styles but you have to buy at least six of each kind. Hope that helps. When I want to find something out I just do a search on here and I usually find everything i need to know. Everyone is so helpful here and i have learned a wealth of information and still am. HTH Stephanie
  3. I like Fresh Peach from NG it smells like peaches picked from the tree. I thing a lot of peach scents smell soapy. I liked Candle Science but than I tried NG's. Very good throw for me in j50 and 6228. Stephanie
  4. I have a friend who loves the glade clean linen. She asked me if I could make her tarts in that particular fragrance. I let her try my fresh linen (NG) she liked it but it doesn't smell anything like the glade. I even added some vanilla to make it more sweet like the clean linen but it didn't smell nothing like it. Does anyone know where I can find a dupe of the glade clean linen. It actually does smell good but only in the scented oil candles can I smell the fragrance. Much thanks Stephanie
  5. Red Hot Cinnamon , Hillbilly Homebrew, and Blueberry Muffin are my best sellers followed by Love Spell. I also like Christmas Splendor and Pink Sugar and Lick me All Over but i call it Voodoo Romance.
  6. I need to vent. I created a professional looking brochure packet, I made a cover page on why to have a candle fundraiser, I made a chart on how much money could be made selling my candles, gave away some free tarts and a small candle to each of the ladies at my daughters' school. I found out what there favorite scent was and poured them. I used fragrances of Blueberry Muffin, Cookies and Cream, Apple Cinnamon, and Red Hot Cinnamon all four of my best sellers. I even offered them my discount on two different style tart warmers just for selling my candles. Profit margin was 40% them and 60% me. Was that not enough for them. Anyway I called her several weeks ago and she loved her tarts and her candle and wants to order some off of me. She even told me i had a beautiful jar . So I am thinking Ok seems like this is going to happen. Then pulling rug out from under me my kids bring home 2 fundraiser packets with cheesecakes and dumb gifts you buy just so your kids can say they sold something and get that cheap prize that doesn't even last the bus ride home. I am upset because if there is one thing I am doing right it is my candles. I have put a lot of time and effort into the perfect logo, my brochure, my scent list, my image on what my candles stand for. I f they are good enough for the president of the PTO to buy for herself than why wouldn't she use them as a filler for their other fundraisers. My girls told all of their friends that their mommy was going to make candles and they couldn't wait to sell them to everybody. Also the school teachers are familiar with my candles because I have sold them to them as well as give them as gifts for holidays. My daughter's teacher asked me to come to school and show the kids from a distance how to make candles last year and as I made them the fragrance went through the halls and the principal and several teachers came down to see what smelled so good so they are familiar with them as well. I don't get it. How does everyone land their fundraisers? What am I doing wrong. I only called her once and that was well over a month later.
  7. That happened to me when I was testing an 8OZ square mason jar. Burned excellent until about an inch and a half down then it fell over into wax. I couldn't understand why my flame had extinguished itself so I dug out a little bit and relit it and it did it again. Then I looked on the bottom and there was no wick attached. I felt stupid. I don't use apoth jars but maybe two wicks is too big. I remember a lady gave me a jar she wanted for a apple cinnamon candle I told her to give me about two weeks so I could test the jar and explained why I needed 2 weeks. I believe it was an apoth jar about 23 oz. I put two 44-24-18z in it and my melt pool was little over 1" thick and getting bigger every time I walked by. I put a 60-44-18z in it and still wasn't happy not big enough. So I researched anything bigger online and I came up with a 62 which worked well of course I use j50 for all my container candles which is softer and works well with the zinc wicks. I thought about changing my wicks but I had another chandler tell me if you have a good thing going why change it. I feel there is always room for improvement but i really don't want to test all my FOs again and again and again. My husband gets mad because I have so many candles in different rooms he says I am wasting money by burning all the candles I could be selling. I explained to him like I always do you cannot just put a wick and wax and some fragrance in a jar and sell to the public. He still don't get it and I get tired of explaining it to him. I just say whatever hmm maybe that is where my daughters get it from.
  8. I have researched the board for my answer and although helpful I still wonder if I have done something wrong. I bought 48 tart warmers from OBI the cw200 series. Wax is melting fine and stays hot around 150 to 160 degrees depending where I decide to place it to test. I usually let my tarts burn throughout the day without shutting them off as do my customers and they scent usually 24 hours or better. Most scents anyway. Since i have been using this warmer I am getting only half of what I normally get. The only thing i have done different is I started using 25% j50 and 75% 6228 not for scent throw that has never been a problem. But my tops always come out wrinkly with the 6228 no matter what temp I pour at. Several say they use container wax with there 6228 and they have smooth tops and better scent throw. I have smooth tops and scent throw seemed to still be there. I have had no complaints since the switch and I didn't tell my testers that i have done anything different as well. The only thing left is the new warmer. It doesn't make sense The wax temp is about the same as my one upstairs and it is a 14watt from yankee. And i also have a tin punch with a 40 watt bulb too and they do really well. I never asked my customers what kind they use. Whatever it is they keep coming back for more. Can anybody give me some advice. This is so frustrating.
  9. Maple crunch that sounds real yummy. Natures Garden has an awesome Red Hot Cinnamon it is one of my best sellers. Can't keep it in stock. Smells just like the candies. IMO. HTH
  10. I was wondering if anyone can suggest a fresh brewed tea fo. I don't want any fruited or spice teas I can get those I am looking for a regular pekoe tea minus the citrus notes. I love the smell of tea brewing in my coffee cup. i really want to make some tarts out of an fo like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  11. I too use the 6228 and I love it. Most of my tarts last for days one lasted 5 whole days non stop. I only threw it out because my husband was tired of smelling the same scent. I use to get mine from early american candle supplies as well but they keep raising their prices on it. I live about 50 miles from them. I compared there cost with tristates plus shipping. And I am getting it for about the same if tristate delivers plus i hate the drive into pittsburgh. Those people don't mind walking out in front of you.
  12. I have never used parasoy I have only used j50 but they are both soft waxes. I use the 16oz masons and usually only need to use a 60-44-18 to get a good melt all the way. Unless I am wicking orange clove than i have to use a 62-52-18 which burns beautifully for me what fo are you using.
  13. I don't post here very often but I frequent this board just about everyday. I want to thank everyone on this board for sharing their experiences and knowledge of candle making with us newbies. I have been making candles for almost a year now and I still have questions and am still learning new tricks and techniques thanks to you guys. I search the forums and I get answers to all my questions. I get stumped about where to buy supplies and where the better deals are and everyone is so forthcoming. You all are AWESOME
  14. My daugher's cheerleading banquet is tomorrow and her coach asked me to make a few candle baskets for a raffle. I am really going all out for this one. Since my daughter's cheerleading squad are called the East End Steelers I am doing a black, gold and white basket with a steeler mug and black and gold layered candles and just solid black and gold and I am doing a holiday basket with candy cane layers, bayberry and cinnamon layers and christmas splendor all in colors of red, green., and white I also have a holiday mug for this one. Found all my baskets, fillers, bows, and baskets at my local dollar tree. Gotta love that store.
  15. I use j50 also Ingrid and I have awesome results with NG. Most scents will do at least 2 or more rooms in my home. I live about 50 miles from Pittsburgh and i receive my fos the very next day. I would like to try some of the other companies but besides NG and C & S I do not have much to choose from without a long wait to receive them.
  16. Where I am from there are a few candle makers in the area and when I go to craft shows I notice none of them have the electric flameless candles. I would like to try them out. I actually have several people who want me to make some for them. Does anybody have a link or can tell me where to start? I did a google search and all I get are places that sell them or sell the molds no actual instructions on making them. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you
  17. Thank you all for your suggestions. I think i will try a new candle making company and start pouring some new fragrances. My husband is going to kill me when he finds out i am going to do some more "experimenting". Oh well he knows it is my outlet and it did help me drop 50lbs. He'll just have to get oner it. Thank you all again. Stephanie
  18. I need a knock your socks off vanilla. I have tried all of NGs and some like it and some don't. I personally am not a vanilla person but my vanilla is not throwing like my others. Anyone have some suggestions on a real good vanilla that will throw well. I use j50 wax and 1oz fo per pound. Could I use buttercream and rename it and make it ivory or white
  19. My jar is 3" diameter and 3.75" high. I am getting melt to sides of glass but after about 3/4 down wick sways to side. Melt pool is too large I guess I should not say drowning because my friend blew out the candle and when she went to light it again she couldn't because wick was gone inside the wax. My other friend said that her wick went all the way to the side of jar and that is why she could not light it. I used 44-24-18 with both of them. Except 5 of my fragrances I can use this wick in all my 10oz jars. If I try the 51 and melt pool is already big won't this make it bigger. That confuses me all the time. I test all the time but this 10oz jar I pretty much hit it right off the bat. I started experimenting with the 24s first. I think I will wick up on one and wick down on one. And burn them side by side. Thank you everybody for your suggestions. Stephanie
  20. I only use j50 and zinc wicks that is all I have ever tested. I told the owner of the local candle making supply shop where i buy my wax i was thinking about experimenting with another wax and different wicks but he said why if this works for you. Each candle was from a different batch of wax but from the same supplier. I am less than 50 miles from Pittsburgh so I buy my j50 from Early American Candle Supply. I use scents from NG. It sounds like my wicks are drowning which means they are burning too fast right. I am getting 60 hours sometimes more from my 10oz jar in every other scent. This one goes until about 3/4 down the jar then gets lost in the wax. What is smaller than a 44-24-18. Or should i try another type of wick for this particular scent. Or do you know of a better apple pie scent that smells like the pie and not just apples and cinnamon. I changed hot baked apple pie to warm apple spice because i cannot smell any pie to this but stills smells very nice and strong.
  21. I'm sorry I should have been more clear. The wick goes down into the wax or it will get so liquified it moved to the side of the jar. This is only happening with this particular fragrance. Yes i hot glue them and yes I have wick clips from candles and supplies but i prefer to use metal hangers cut to about 4 or 5 inch sticks and wrap wick around the stick then when candle is solid I just take nail clippers and clip it off. Works great and wick is taut. I was looking on net and I seen 36-24-18z but they are for votives I reaaly need help with this one because everybody likes this fragrance and I sell alot of it in the jjs. I maybe getting a fundraiser soon and i want it to burn like the rest do.
  22. I am having some trouble with finding the right wick for my hot baked apple pie. I am using 10oz dodecagon jar and j50 wax with 44-24-18 wicks and 1oz fragrance per lb of wax. This is normally what i use for most of my other fragrances sometimes I have to wick up but never down from the 44-24-18z. My problem is that about 3/4 down the wick gets lost or sometimes moves to the side scent throw is awesome. Two friends of mine were testing it and they gave them both to me and said they smelled great but the wicks got lost in the wax. Should I wick down if so what is smaller than a 24 I know there is a 20 but I use it for my 4oz dodecagon and it does nicely. I use a 24 in my 8oz jj and it does well in the apple pie fragrance as well. Is there a such thing as a 44-22-18z. Need help on this please.
  23. I made a 12oz classic jar with NG's peach Fo. Every FO I make with NG has awesome scent throw hot and cold. I use 1oz FO per pound of wax. I only use J50 and zinc wicks. I am getting a good melt pool I am using 51z. I just ordered some vybar for containers. Should this increase my scent throw. I am going to try one with vybar and one with a little less fo. Does anybody have any suggestions.
  24. Thank you for your suggestion I started doing them cooler because I was getting wet spots doing them hot, warm, whatever but as I have experienced and reading from here wet spots cannot be helped. I started warming them again last night and it seamed to help but not all jars were warmed because I made the wrong fragrance and had already wicked my jars so I did not want to put them back in oven. Would this hurt to put them in the oven wicked in case this would happen again?
  25. I have been using J50 for several months now and I am most comfortable with it leaves a nice creamy finish. My question is all my J50 in the past has been very soft and white. I ordered J50 a few days ago and it came yesterday and I noticed it was a bit harder and more ivory than white. I tried the J223 (which is what this is reminding me of) and it made all my candles look like they had lines running horizontally around all my jars. So I began using my "J50" wax that I received and it happened again. Now I am wondering is there more than one J50 out there or did they send me the wrong stuff. It says Honeywell J50 but I always order AstorJ-50 is there a difference. Are these lines wet spots because the tops of the candles are smooth with no lines. I am using 12 sided jars if that helps anybody.
