  1. My daughters' cheer leading squad sold 303 candles. My other group of 60 kids will be in Monday or Tuesday. I also have another one that started 2 days ago. I told them if they wanted they could take three weeks. I am so excited. I have a three day festival coming up this weekend also been getting ready for this all week. Hope all your shows go well. Steph
  2. I am having this problem as well. Check your local farm stores and if you have an agway kind of like industrial/farm/hardware store. Candle Science has a great price on 8oz jars I live in Pa and I get mine in two days. HTH Steph
  3. That is all I use in my J50 are zinc wicks. My 8oz jjs have that diameter and the 44-24-18z works great just remind your customers and yourself when testing the zincs clip those wicks. HTH Steph
  4. I went to Walmart and picked up their All in One Printer Paper it is heavier than copier paper says it is for high impact printing cost me $6.97. My forms turned out really nice. I used Microsoft small office 2007 and did a tri-fold brochure my customers were impressed with the quality. hth Steph
  5. Candles and supplies has them they also have them in different colors as well. I was thinking on red and green for Christmas baskets this year. I think they are 7 oz and they have 10oz ones in clear. hth Steph
  6. I second Cranberry Marmalade from Candle Science. Awesome throw and perfect for fall. I sell out of candles every time. Steph
  7. I drink a lot of crystal light "big containers" when I am done with the canister I use it for wick storage because they are long enough and have lids. Then I just slap a label on with wick size. Easy neat storage also. Steph
  8. I don't use j223 but I use 25% j50 with pillar wax 6228. Increases scent throw and they melt better. Steph
  9. My black cherry does that real bad. I started making them colorless when i do shows. Was your show a success?
  10. I love my 8 oz jjs they are my best seller I sell them for 6 dollars and they are flying off the shelves I can't make them fast enough. I get my jars at Early american candle supply for .48 ea lids at .14 ea I live hour away. I do not like their fos though. Steph
  11. I charge $1.00 ea. or 6 for $5.00. They really go for the 6 for 5. My tarts are about 1oz or a little less of an ounce.
  12. I am so happy right now. I went to a small town festival last Saturday. One day about 500 people. The donation fee was only 10 dollars to set up. I thought I did quite well I did 30 times my fee in 6 hours. Two teen girls started smelling my candles told me they had a yearbook club so I pitched my fundraiser to them and I gave them a small candle for their teacher. Two days later they called me from school and said there teacher wants to do a fundraiser as soon as possible. 60 kids and she said they all are looking forward to selling them. My question is estimate how many candles do you think the group will sell? I'm thinking at least 300. I also have a fundraiser with my daughters' peewee league cheerleaders about 36. Their coach is giving a prize for most sold and they have to sell a minimum of 5 each. My candles are 10oz dodecagon jars burn time about 80 hrs for 9.00 I am giving them 45%. How much money do your fundraisers make. Thanks Steph
  13. I poured my J50 like normal heated my jars @ 150 degrees poured my wax fo @ 1oz per pound let cure all day came home and they had cracks on top and some on sides as well. Smells great I want to take pics of them for an upcoming fundraiser brochure. I figured perhaps it is the temp in my house. I don't want to turn my heat on just yet I am in Pa and it was pretty cold yesterday was that my issue. I have used up 3.5 slabs of this same batch and no probs til now. Thanks Steph
  14. I use NG's Baby Powder as well, clear FO and very strong in my parrafin.
  15. I have been making candles for 3.5 years now and I thought I had my 8 oz jjs down. Never had any complaints. I had a pour off candle with equal parts of passionate kisses, cucumber melon, and pomegranate. I use j50 and zinc wicks. Just for kicks one day I put a 44-20-18z in it and it burned beautifully. I lit in my bathroom downstairs that afternoon around 2p told my girls to extinguish it before they went to bed they forgot I got up the next morning still burning strong smell was all over the house was beginning the middle layer about 8am. I relit when i came home from work at 1:30p let burn all day and into night blew out around 12p. No smoke very little mushrooming and I still have the third layer left. I thought well maybe just my lighter fos this would work. So last week I poured Granny's Pecan Pie and I put the 44-20 in that as well. And it is burning perfect. Does anybody use these wicks for this size jar. I have always used 44-24 in all my 8 oz jjs. As long as wicks were clipped and they didn't burn half the day there wasn't any sooting. Melt pool was always around 1/2 inch burn time was abour 50 hours. Anybody else try these in their jjs? I normally don't burn all day long but i wanted to see if it would soot any.
  16. Scentsme I got my pumpkin souffle from Candlescience. Smells very nice but it is too much like my Pumpkin Crunch Cake which has been a best seller year round for 2 solid years now.
  17. pumpkin souffee smells like pumpkin crunch cake. I detect a bit more sweetness in the souffle. I don't want to carry similar scents. Pumpkin Crunch sells major for me.
  18. I was down my local flea market selling candles and a lady purchased blueberry and a huckleberry 10oz candles She was a little apprehensive because she never had any luck with candles. I told her if she wasn't happy to bring back the candles and I would refund her money next time I seen her. She said that sounded fair enough. 2 weeks later she came back to my table and wanted more candles. She said that her freezer had stopped working and all her meat had spoiled and her house smelled awful so she burned my candles and she and her husband said they helped get the smell out of her house I thought that was amazing that I had made these two people so happy. They had also traveled about 30 miles just to find me and get more. It makes you feel good when people are as excited about your product as you are. Thought I would share Steph
  19. Anyone try this one yet. Smells fruity to me. Going to make tarts in a few. I was thinking a dark purple
  20. Right before I started making candles my mom bought me a hazelnut cream 3 wick candle from Walmart for Christmas. It had an nice scent throw and at the time I thought it was a great candle. My mom loves this scent she bought herself several of these as well. I burned it all the way down until about 2.5" from bottom I thought it was done but later I realized the candle had too many wicks and they drowned. My mom's did the exact same thing and burned down until the 2.5 mark as well. Whatever wax they used was definitely needed a repour and they were very small wicks. Container was about 4" in diameter. I usually can use 1 or maybe 2 depending on fo with that size of a jar. Steph
  21. That is what i do too. I keep my pyrex cups warm in oven and I use presto pots on warm setting.
  22. I use j50 for my containers and i found if I use 75% of my sugar cookie and my blueberry muffin. Instead of the full ounce it incorporates very nicely and I still get a very fragrant candle. Same with my melts which I use 6228 and j50. Steph
  23. I sell tarts like crazy. I went to the flea market on Sunday morning. I sold 1 candle and 150 tarts. Here in pa people love tarts. I am in the testing stages of votives right now, doing well getting 16 hours out of one. When selling at flea markets and shows I get asked alot about votives so I decided to start selling them too. I think people want fragrance but do not want to put out alot of money for candles. I only have luck with 8oz jelly jars and they sell for $6.00. Some people think that is too much. Steph
  24. I think it is a typo because the 22oz candle burns for 110 to 130 hours. I think it is more like 200 to 250 hours. Still not enough burn time for me to pay 80.00. I have a customer that is in love with blueberry muffin he asked me to find the biggest jar I could find and make him a candle. My friend suggested a fish bowl he said money is no object. I explained I would need some time to do this. Anybody know where I can get very large jars at like the one we are talking about. Steph
  25. I have done both and using a lid seems to make the scent seem stronger when they go in for that first sniff. However when you are finally ready to start selling if that is your intentions, and you are displaying at a show, I find that most people like lids to be off so they just pick up and sniff. If my candles are lidded they walk on by "people can be so lazy sometimes."
