  1. Currently going through this. I shipped a package and it arrived at the destination city's USPS on August 6 at 4:29 am and was "delivered" on August 6 at 3:06 pm. As of today (August 11), the customer hasn't received the item. We've been chatting and I told her I'd ship another with no cost to her, but still. IDK what is going on. Well, I know what's going on, but I don't know. UGH.

  2. @Darbla I wish I did, but I'm looking around. What's the D&G Light Blue smell like?

I want to do a line of Italy inspired candles, but I think I need to commence planning for my trip first! It must involve lots of olive oil, wine, bread, pasta, and pizza!

More of the problem that I had was that people just do not understand Etsy.  They thought when they were on the product that said Mt Dew Can and then selected the Scent as Dr Pepper that the can would some how magically change also to match.  Really it just comes down to reading and verifying your order which I have come to realize is VERY difficult for people.

As a librarian, let me tell you that so many people fail to read. I've worked public librarianship and now I'm in school librarianship. Let me tell you: age doesn't matter when it comes to reading. A lot of people don't do it, and when you point it out to them, they're all, "Oh. Well, I..." and give me some excuse.

    Sigh. Big sigh.

One of my favorites is a soap maker who has video on candlemaking. It consists of taking votive candle sticking them in a container then pouring soy wax on top of them. Instacandle! Yikes. Reddit, also some very bad advice and bad candle.

If only we had a WTF face button because that's just the face I made...🤨😑🙄😒 so just put all of the emojis together and that'll give you an idea of my facial expression...

  5. Hi @Dee26, and welcome!

I am going to agree with both @NightLight and @Laura C. Candle making is not a rush job and not just a melt wax, secure wick, and pour wax into a container kind of hobby. There is so much more to it.

Check the forum out; read through the topics and you'll garner the information that you are looking for -  what wax you may like to work with, the different wick series, fragrance oils, containers, etc. There is lots of testing involved, too, so be prepared for that as well.

Also, you say that Flaming Candle gave you some items - did you order those items independently, or was it a candle making kit?

There is a ton of research involved and you must remember that, at the end of the day, you not only want your candle to produce a great scent, but it must also be safe.

  6. I'm still in the very beginner stages of candlemaking and such, but as a consumer, I don't think August is too early to have fall scents. People tend to shop earlier and earlier for seasonal items(or maybe I should say retailers are selling seasonal items earlier than what used to be). If you're testing out new fall scents, maybe the August event will be your testing waters. (I hope that makes sense; I've only had about three hours of sleep😫

Flat boxes (that ship flat and you fold into a three dimensional box) are very inexpensive and look nice. You could even use black ones-either matte or glossy. And then you can put a label on the outside of the box. Keeps the candles free from debris/dust on the shelves. You can also buy even nicer hard boxes for a little more money. And you can put a card in the box with whatever info. you want.

That is just an alternative to the hang tags. I also think you don't need to go cray-cray with a ton of info. Everyone knows that candles can cause fires if left unattended and they probably don't even care much about the fragrance name and ingredients, beyond the basics. Just my two cents.

Get outta my head, @candlesinflorida😂 You've said everything I was going to say.

  8. I'm still in the very beginning stages, but I do think about branding a lot. I've got a document that is serving as my brain dump: the colors I'm using as part of my brand; a list of  tag lines that I've come up with; the type of containers and color of said containers; packaging components, and all that jazz. I'm happy to have reduced my containers to two types: 8 oz tins and 12 oz jars, which eliminates many wicking headaches... But, I do try to think like a customer. How can someone instantly recognize my brand? What makes me stand out? Why should the customer purchase my product over a competitor's product? There is so much to think about, and being a librarian and so research-focused, it's fun, but also, ARGH.

All that said, I'm learning a ton from everyone here, and learning to be patient, as well.

    Back to doodling...

  9. Forrest, are you looking for a top label for your tins, as well as a wrap around label?

Here are my thoughts: for top label, a 2 inch round label or 2.5 inch round (largest to avoid label hangover on top) and/or a rectangular label or a wrap around label.

I'm in the same boat as you, buddy, and I am designing labels as we speak/type. 😀
