@Candybee well, I certainly hope so. I guess I’ll have to just test like crazy until then. Have you ever used Natureswax C-3? I’m using Millennium wax for my first round and literally didn’t notice just how much more expensive it comes out in the end compared to other waxes that I’ve also read good things about. :/ also, what wicks do you prefer...?

And lastly. I’m also concerned about some of the legal things I’ve read while looking into what I’ve read about selling. Do you know anything about liability insurance while selling candles? Or have an idea of who I could go with who won’t cost me an arm and a leg? This one company that got back to me said they’d cover my business for 400 and something dollars... while that’s annually, that’s still a lot and I’m curious just how needed it is....

Thank you you again for your continual help! :)

Go the the "business" section to read up on insurance.  Yes, you will definitely need it if you sell. $400 is pretty good for a year.

  2. I use NG lemon poppyseed and I think it's great.  A good mix of lemon and cake scent. It preformed well in parasoy and soy candles and soy and palm melts.

Funny, I have it melting in my living room now. Even with a bit of candle nose from all my pouring this week I can smell it. Which is impressive to me!

  3. I can understand your reservations. I have been thinking a lot about private labeling but have not made it to the stage to do thorough researching.

But, I have seen on labels in the stores...on the back or inside in small print... made for X by Y.

My question is...is it the manufacturer requiring the recognition on the package? Or is it a liability issue for the reseller?  If they were ever sued for a bad candle...they said they poured it.

I know I'm really no help, but it resonates with things I have been pondering.

  4. You are not alone with lavender. I do not enjoy it ato all. I just started working with LS Honey Lavender Gelato and it is very nice. Just enough honey to cut the bite of the lavender.

I had ordered dragons blood a long time ago but decided against working with it because it was just too much.

There have been others, but with so many fragrances I do enjoy, I only work with the oils I really like. So far anyway!

I agree that I should try to use some of the scents that I've been selling in incense, or expand a bit beyond it. I want to start with container and a few pillars and see which ones get the most attention. I think I've chosen the Frankincense & Myrrh that I just got...I actually like it, and I can test that in incense as well. My older F&M was a much different scent, but I want to see if my customers like it. I'll also do the lemongrass...I sell a lot of body oil in that scent, so perhaps I could upsell on that? My sandalwood is good too, but I do want to try the one I got from Flaming Candle, I like it! I've finally got most everything I need to do my first pillar candle now, had to go get a hot plate, because in the RV we're traveling in, I only have propane *gasp*, so that won't work to melt wax.

We worked today with FIVE booths, so that was really exhausting...ah, but fruitful, so who's complaining? It also hit 94 degrees here, so we were loaded up on lots of water in the ice chest!

Thank you all for the suggestions, I will try to keep my scents classic and earthy for starters, like my incense.

You may want to look into a presto pot instead of a hot plate. There are a lot if current threads on them and how people use them.

Especially since you're making them in a small space. It will save you on the steam!

  6. I do not sell candles so I can not help you with popular containers or sizes.

But, I can give you my opinion on the scents you have. Since you already sell incense in these fragrances I would go ahead and sell them in candles as well. That way yout have a cohesive line. Then you can expand from there with other fragrances.

You say you have limited space. So, if you are not selling a particular scent as a candle, drop it and replace it with something new.

Maybe just do 2 to 4 of each scent to start (depending on your space) and keep making the ones that sell quickly.

  7. Just wanted to get back with you on my testing. I only tested a few more oils and while they were good, they weren't better than the palm I have been using. I really like working with palm and would only switch if there was a significant difference.

  8. I'm having a hard time finding the info I need on the internet. Can someone help me with some info and/or links?

I'm trying to name a fragrance called Sun & Sea by LS that is a dupe of Sun & Sand which is trademarked. Can I use Sun & Sea, or is that too close to the trademark name?

  9. Great question! That is what I have been working on this week. Literally about to start building inventory right after I post this! How many pounds of wax do I have/how many pounds of each fragrance should I make?

I have decided to make 3 pounds of each fragrance split between sample sizes, clams and individual pieces to be sold by the pound. Some scents I may do less and some more. But, that is my baseline.

Then when I'm all done I can reevaluate.

  10. I ordered mine the 13th as well. It is out for delivery...pretty good from NC to TX. I just hope they come in before I have to leave for work.

Last time I had a big sample order I got it right as I was leaving. Had to speed to get there on time because I wanted to sniff them all!

Hmm, I started making candles in 1997 and NG was one of my first suppliers, and I've always known them as NG and I've never received bottles of FO with Candle Pro on them. (at least I don't remember them ever coming that way, but honestly, I think I would remember that? Who knows these days what I can/cannot remember! LOL)

    This is interesting.

The bottles are printed with nature garden on them, but check the sticker where they list the name of the fragrance oil.  It has candlepro.com on it.  (That used to redirect you to NG website, but not anymore)

Edit...for the record...I have no clue if they were ever called candle pro. I have only seen it on the labels.

Thanks Sebleo, Thats Great...interesting that they continued using candle pro packaging ...I really would never have figured it out!

I got over 275 lbs of fragrance oils  from a chandler closing shop so if they're still viable it will be a treat!!

All of their labels still say candlepro.com  even the bottles I just got in. Now the bottles themselves are printed with nature garden, but, the label they print to note the fragrance has candlepro. So, your oils may not be old at all.

  13. I would have to say they started as Candle Pro in 97 and changed the name later. I got into making candles in roughly 2007 and the website was Nature Garden but the oils came marked candle pro. It was confusing. Up until a year ago or so you could type in candlepro.com and it would still take you to nature garden but not anymore.
