  3. Thanks all, yup I'm gonna be a soapin fool !!! Luci - you gotta jump in girl, you won't regret it. Kellyo
  4. Great job...if this is your first attempt can't wait to see more. Can't imagine the patience it takes to do one of these. Kellyo
  5. After months of trying, I finally made a cp soap that I really like Thanks to all who post regularly, you don't know how many times I would come in & read your posts to figure out what the heck I did wrong and go back and try again. Finally realized any recipe I had lard in just wouldn't work for me. Huge thanks to Darwin...I started with your basic recipe and tweeked until I found just the right mix for me and voila...success . You guys rock! Kellyo
  6. Hi to all..I joined CT a while ago to feed my interest in candles but long about march I caught the b&b bug. Boy, did I catch it. Have spent the last few months formulating a lotion I love. Had a more than a few failures and then moved on to soap after reading everything I could lay my eyes on. Now, after all these months of standing on my feet carefully measuring ingredients, stirring only clockwise and crossing my fingers on my left hand only (seems to be the only way to keep the gremlins out of the workshop) I'd like to try some of Bunny's Foot Scrub that everyone raves about...any Canadians have a link where you can get silica? I can't seem to find any up here and my poor little tootsies need some tlc. Kellyo
  7. Excellent job! Sure looks good enough to eat Kellyo
  8. Thanks for sharing Sara....I couldn't resist making this tonight & it's really nice. I like simple. Simple is good for a newbie like me that came here to learn about candles & find I'm spending more & more on b&b supplies all the time and reading tons about soaping. I just ordered some wicks & somehow all the things for cp soap somehow fell into my basket. You are all really bad influences & I love it Now...to find some courage to try soap.... Kellyo
  9. Hi BrandNew - welcome to the boards. You'll learn a lot. I don't post often as I'm too busy reading everything. You'll usually find the answer you are looking for if you search. Plus everyone is so helpful - great bunch of people. I'm Canadian too & have had to do a lot of research on where to get what. I can attest that Canwax is great. I haven't had a single problem with anything I've ordered. I've ordered everything from their wax, all types, f.o. & wicks, to their b&b supplies. S.J. is very helpful & patient so if you are looking for something in particular pop her an email & I'm sure she'll try and help you out. Shipping is a pain for everyone and unfortunately you do have the stumbling block of the island to overcome. I can't advise you on this as I live close enough to canwax to pick up whatever I need. It can be tough though, we're all feeling the pinch of the shipping costs. Have fun, experiment, remember to be safe and go make some candles. You'll be hooked in no time. Oh & wick pins - I couldn't live without them. I can't centre anything if my life depended on it. Kellyo
  10. Very nice, never been a chunkie fan but gotta say these are growing on me. Love the colours. kellyo
  11. I'm from Canada so I'm crossing my fingers that maybe one day something like this will hit this side of the border. I'd love to see some articles interviewing some of the amazing artists we have here. I could name dozens but hey Donita's work is amazing, Top is top, Scented is great - so many, I could keep naming for hours - all wonderful people that have done absolutely stunning work & shown a real dedication to their craft & still find time to show us newbies the ropes. Kellyo
  12. Looks yummy, great job. Kellyo
  13. Thanks for looking everyone. It's nice to get encouragement. I wasn't too sure about the colour combo. What looks good going into the mold sometimes isn't so great coming out. Appreciate your comments. Kelly O
  14. Hi All - months ago Scented so kindly invited me to post pics..well after 3 mos of "getting to know my digital camera", I'm going to give it a try. I'm still not sure if I've got the "resizing down" so if it's just a dot on the screen forgive me (likewise if it's a king kong candle). Simple pillar, scented rain. Kellyo
  15. Canwax is the best- you just can't beat the service. SJ is tops! Soapinthecity - who's in richmond hill? I'm looking for a few things SJ doesn't carry yet. Kellyo
  16. Thanks for the advise, I'll give it a try and see what happens tonight. I wasn't sure if it was ok to do that or not with just learning about everything, thought it better to ask. I appreciate your help. Kellyo
  17. Hi all, I'm new to the boards & have spent most of my time candlemaking but in the last month couldn't resist trying some of your recipes. Bunny, your bath melts are to die for - they sure help my poor dry canadian winter frazzled skin when nothing else could - love them. Tried lip balm, don't know what I did wrong the first time but you could use it as car wax it's so hard! But got it right on the second try. Then I thought I'd try a lotion. I thought it was ok but it's been a couple of weeks in the bottle now & it seems too thick. Anyway to salvage this batch or is it a throw-away? If it has to go then so be it just sad to see a waste of those lovely butter & oils. I just used a basic recipe (I think it was posted here) of 300 g water, 100g oils (I used avocado & apricot kernel) 50 g shea butter, 30 g ewax, 10 g beeswax 10 g glycerin 5 g vit.e, f.o. & preservative. It was great for a few days, silky smooth & sunk in quickly. But now it's so think it's hard to get out of the bottle. Any suggestions. Oh - also I'm just doing this for myself. Idle hands and all that. Thanks Kellyo
  18. Great job & love the colour - reminds me of spring & Easter KellyO
  19. Tucker - got mine at home depot...took forever to find it though, one guy said plumbing, one said over by the furnace area. Finally found it, came home & ordered wick pins. Not going through that again! I have seen the light Kellyo
  20. Wow, great job. That's a real classic design. I can envision by just varying the colours you could come up with a real beautiful gift to cover just about any occasion. Perfection! Kellyo
  21. ok I'm going to turn in my presto pot & wax and start B&B...you guys are having too much fun. LMAO Kellyo
  22. MMM...I was thinking the same thing but I number my containers. Yes, I'm that obsessive when I'm testing (experience from trying to mix a tough vanilla). I usually take the first, last & two at random in between. Then if I'm happy & it burns & throws right I try and duplicate it in 3 more batches from my notes before I'm satisfied that it "really works". Then I still test at least one from each new batch after it's reached the "keeper list". Is that thorough enough or should I be testing longer? But let me make myself clear, I'm not selling. Just could die happy if I could make one perfect candle. Fern - sorry to hear you've joined my "how the heck did that happen club". LRC - you've got some good points & I'm going to double check my notes & see if I can find something else that might have led to this. I usually add fo at 180, mix thoroughly, my notes said this was a very lightly coloured fo that mixed well, usually mix for about a minute & let settle for a bit to see if any fo is "floating around". I only 1/2 dye chip salmon so the colour is really pale (I have no idea what colour this fo is supposed to be in a candle). This one has got me puzzled. Thanks for the input. If all else fails I'm going to blame it on the candle gremlins. kellyo
  23. Thank's Christina - it's a mystery to me too. Wondering if it's possible that the fo only "bound" with part of the wax. If that can happen? Even wondered if it was the weather. August can be pretty hot & humid here. If I've got to start making notes of the weather too I guess I'll know I'm completely utterly obsessed with candlemaking! Ha! My daughter just came in the room to see what the smell was. So I'm not crazy. She loved this oob but was sad when she smelled it in the candle in August. Thanks for your thoughts Kellyo
