  1. Thanks Barbara... I'll give it a try! I'm always afraid to break away from a true and trusted recipe, but it sounds interesting. I like the sounds of creamy!! :)

And thanks to Talltayl for the input. I didn't even think to check the properties before posting... It was 5:30 this morning!!! :)

I have made my liquid soap without Castor it is very nice and creamy I do add the Red Turkey oil after the cook.

I made a liquid soap a couple of months ago used Zero superfat and did not add the Red Turkey oil or the Castor and the soap is the creamiest I have ever made. It will be creamy but not bubbly

Made a great soap for the Foamer bottles without the castor.

  2. I'm good on the Eucalyptus.. for now I haven't really started candle production for my fall shows yet.. that will come once I'm finished my spring greenhouse, and town job rush!!! :D Plus the fact that my DH had a knee operation a few weeks ago, so he is out of commission for helping out in the greenhouse.. So I don't even have time to look at what I might need..

  3. sounds freaking good to me!! I wish I could say the same... I get more spam than anything else... I actually need to remove the mail address.. unless someone around here needs Viagra??????:laugh2: Geeeeeeeeesh!!

  4. My website has been online for only a couple of months..... I have gotten a few phone calls for supplies (candle wax and soaping oils)... but nothing yet for the actual product... but this is Quebec....

Most of my sales are from word of mouth.. or craft fairs..

  5. The green irish tweed and irish spring from FBD are two totally different smelling fo's... in my soap recipe anyways.

Scented the only other Irish Spring that I've tried is from Village Craft here in Canada. It's not bad, but it's definately not Fragrance by Design.... smells nothing like it.

and of course it is one of my best sellers darn!!! I've got about 3 ounces left, so I can make one smaller batch, then after I'll be stuck!!

  6. Well he is very comfortable going to public markets with our greenhouse stuff, so I thought it might be a good idea that he try just a small craft show in our home town.

We had booked a table for two with some very good friends of ours, (who sell produce conifer essential oils) and we sent our two hubbies there while we did the bigger one.

Ours finished at 5pm so we joined up with the guys after. (Theirs finished at 8pm)

Well we got there, and they had opened a bottle of wine (of course it was hidden under the table) :laugh2:.. but they both did pretty well on their own.. AND they had a great time doing it which is the main thing!!!

  7. And for the ones who just posted here who don't live in the US how in the world do you stay in business with shipping prices of what you pay? What do charge $32.00 for a jelley jar? Gesh, I feel bad for you guys!

The only way to stay in business and get stuff in the US is by participating in co-ops, and checking the classies!!

And the heavier items, like wax I buy here in Canada.

It is the nice bottles that are hard to find around here at a reasonable price.

And as for Richards.... I think we need to buy full cases of bottles from them, and for the moment I just can't do it. I ended up buying 10 really cute bottles from ND. a little more expensive than I wanted to pay, but I think they'll do well for me (I'll be using them for my lotion (base) )in my next craft fairs.... 5 in a row...all two day shows.. phew!!

Too many co-ops going on that I need to pay shipping for...:laugh2:

Although the shipping isn't as bad than buying direct from US suppliers

  8. Cool... thank you so much!!! I'm about to have a look see, for their minimums, as they do have a branch in Montreal... 50 minute drive from here!!!:yay:

I'm looking for nice little lotion bottles now!!!

My gosh... 3 weeks ago I did a craft fair... took 6 bottles of lotion (I use a base) didn't sell one.

The show that I just finished this past weekend... I sold 5 bottles!! Go figure!! Now I need to find some more NICE bottles fast!!

  9. :yay: So well said Dust!!!!

And if I may just add on to this, and this from my own experience, soy votives have a mind of their own sometimes. :shocked2:

They will burn beautifully a couple of weeks after making, then you randomly burn one of the same batch 1 year later, and oh la.... "ain't the same thing".

You need to test, test and test again in different environments, and learn, learn and learn!!! And don't expect to build up a business in 1 or 2 months!! It takes a long time and very hard work!!

  10. I just bought 50 bottles from Scent works, and the shipping is costing me $37.00!!!!!!!!!!!! :rolleyes2

The shipping is more expensive than the darn bottles!! (It is still cheaper though than any half decent bottles that I've found here in Canada.)

Does anyone here in Canada have a decent place to buy NICE bottles. Not the boston rounds, or the cosmos or cylinders, etc. Something nice and different.. at a decent price??? New Directions does have some, but the nicer ones are $2.50 and up per bottle... which doesn't include shipping!!!

  11. I'm making my first soy votives and have 3 scents to sell at a candle party tomorrow night. .......I know I will get faster with more practice pouring votives)

Not trying to be rude here, but if you are still learning to make votives... DO NOT start selling them tomorrow!!! It is a disaster waiting to happen, as there are too many things that can go wrong!!

    Especially with Soy!!

btw I sell mine for $2.00 here in Canada, but I've been making them for 4 years and just started selling last fall.
