  1. That's the Canadian site. Here's the US site: http://www.wellnaturally.com/ This stuff, I believe, is a very fine powder...a little goes a long way.
  2. You can easily use this scent at 6% in soy. It's very strong and rich!
  3. OOOPS! I totally missed your post on your decision...sorry!
  4. To me it depends on whether you're marketing this scent as a Clinique dupe or just a candle named "Happy". If as a dupe, then I would try to match Clinque's packaging...otherwise do whatever makes you Happy! :smiley2:
  5. Did a search...came up with this Quote from site: "The Bottom of Mom's Purse ™(Light Green) A spearmint sage known for it's cleansing properties" Here's the link: http://www.5bandco.com/candlesearchRZ.html Hope it helps
  6. http://www.keystonecandlesupply.com/ has both that you are looking for.
  7. The chalk that weightlifters and rock climbers use is Magnesium Carbonate. Go to a sporting goods store and ask for it.
  8. Iota Carrageenan Extract Here's some info on it: http://ift.confex.com/ift/2000/techprogram/paper_5265.htm
  9. What kind of corn are you growing? I believe Indian Corn, Field Corn or Popcorn are what you want....Sweet Corn cobs will be too soft and will rot. After corn has dried remove kernals and allow cob to dry further. Then chop or grind cob in a food processor. If you are looking at a very large amount (as in a few acres of corn) take it to a local Livestock Feed Mill to shell and grind. Hope this helps!
  10. Swan Creek Candle in Ohio/Michigan has these. I worked at a gift shop that carried them....and let me tell you the salt shaker candles are some of the most god-awful burning candles I've seen! First it would tunnel, then when it got to the narrow part it turned into a campfire, soot everywhere. I have no clue why you would even attempt to market these things (must have good insurance). But you know what, people bought them because they we "so cute!" We didn't have many repeat customers for that style. Go figure.
  11. When I was in school, we had sixth grade camp. As one of our projects we dipped taper candles for Mother's Day. My mother still has mine!
  12. To make the LS less harsh, I add 4 ounces of glycerin to 32 ounces of finished soap. It also adds viscosity.
  13. Even though my screen name is Amish Ragdoll, I am not from the Amish, and that is not the name I use for my business. It is a nickname given to me long ago..long story. So I hope you are not looking at me as competition, for I am not. Unfortunately, you are correct about this area wanting only Amish Artisans/Crafters. A few years ago I went through the same thing myself....
  14. I totally agree! They are all over Holmes, Tuscaraws & Coshocton counties. But you'll only see them in the gift shops for 1 season (Amish country is a HUGE tourist area) I know too many people that are out to make a buck on candles, when they should be trying to make a smile! In the last year I have had numerous requests "can you teach me how to make candles? I know it can't be that hard!" well if it's not that hard, go figure it out yourself! I can't imagine going to a complete stranger to ask that! Though I have taught 2 deserving friends. I am only a hobbyist candlemaker now, we are remodeling our home by ourselves so I am dedicating my time to that (we started 2 yrs ago, have another 3 or 4 to go! It takes time and lots of money doing it on your own) And by the time that's done I'm hoping all the fly-by-nighters will have learned their lesson and be done with it. By the way Fire, I live in Baltic and shop at Bolek's as well! Gotta love that place! I love my C3, now that I think I've got it figured out! Also just got the Frostop from Barnloft, haven't tried it yet, but you are more than welcome to have a sample if you'd like!
  15. If your planning on growing loofa, start them indoors now! I'm in Ohio as well and grew loofa last year. It has a longer growing season than other gourds (yes loofa is a gourd). It also should a trellis to grow on as well. If your want to grow organic, use hot pepper spray and also you can make a spray with neem oil and polysorbate 20 for the bugs, otherwise use 7Dust. Cucumber beetles are bad in Ohio. They will devestate gourds, melons, squash and gourds if not controlled. And yes you will have to dry the loofa at the end off the growing season before it can be used. Growing loofa is fun and easy as long as they are maintaned! It's really not hard at all!
  16. Hi Regina! That was me suggesting SL. Look at the thread again....it is .5oz. per pound. MMS suggests that you add the SL solution to the lye water. It is written towards the bottom of the calculated recipe. When building your recipe just remember to check the box for SL recommendations, it is after you choose your type of lye. In case you do not have the link to the MMS Lye Calculator, here it is: http://www.thesage.com/calcs/lyecalc2.php Here is a link to other peoples opinions on SL: http://www.soapdishforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19242&hl= Please remember that individual results may vary, what may work for one may not work for another....if you've every made a soy candle, you'll understand my meaning...that also goes for soapmaking as well. I'm not trying to discourage you in any way, just stating facts. But from what I've read most people love using SL. I know I do! Your recipe looks good except the SL. Try 1 ounce. That will make it .5 ppo. If you have more questions, just yell. I 'll try to help as much as I can!
  17. I got my Sodium Lactate at Lotioncrafter. It's also available at The Herbarie and MMS. I have 60% liquid solution, not the powder. But I see that the solution is not available at Lotioncrafter anymore, they have the powder (haven't used the powder). The other 2 have the liquid solution. It is recommended to use .5 ounce per pound of fats which is 3% and that is what I use with great results. I use the Lye Calculator from MMS. It gives you an option on using Sodium Lactate..make sure you check the box. It is added to the lye water. I know that SL and Glycerine can be somewhat interchangeable in other bath and body products. But added Glycerine in natural soap will make it stickier, not hard. Where as the SL will increase firmness. I also noticed more creamy bubbles using SL. Now remember that using SL will make your HP soap very managable (I can even do intricate molds), but it won't be as fluid as CP. Also remember not to discount too much water in your HP recipe. Give it a try! I think you'll like it!
  18. I ran your recipe through a soap calc, and you had plenty of water. IMO I think the salt is the problem. I know it works great in CP, have not tried it in HP, but it would make sense to me that the salt would make the soap very stiff after cooking; since it is "ready to use" after cooking. I hope that makes sense! I make the majority of my soaps HP and use Sodium Lactate to keep soap somewhat fluid after cooking. It keeps it very workable during molding and makes for a nice firm bar afterwards.
  19. My sister in a MT. She uses Jojoba, 76 degree Coconut oil and Avocado, but I do not know the percentages that she uses. I can tell you that has a wonderful feel and plenty of slip!
  20. Island Pear from Heartfelt is awesome! Sweet and juicy with a great throw! She also has Passion Berry Pear which is very nice as well, but it is more "crisp and clean" than juicy. The throw is wonderful as well. BTW I use C-3 by Cargill.
  21. Apple Danish is Excellent! Blueberry Cobbler is the Best! Island Mango & Island Pear ROCK! Lilac In Bloom is Super Strong! Buttercream Supreme- I had to work with this one, but when poured hot it is outstanding! So rich & creamy! Good mixer too. Spiced Cranberry is Super Strong! Fresh & Clean, Enchanted, and Clean Cotton are all wonderful fresh scents Mountain Berry Cake is a must have! Fresh Baked Cookies & Cinnamon Bun make me very hungry! Cranberry Currant is crisp and clean! I could go on.... IMO you can't go wrong with Heartfelt!
  22. I'm with you on that! I thought it was my imagination as well! But they help tremendously for a nice even burn and with sooting.
