  1. In all of my testing, yes, the 415 has a tendency to look like cottage cheese after it has burned and cooled. I talked with Phil - I think that was his name - from VA Candle Supplies and he says that it's normal and proves it is a natural product. I'm sure someone else will chime in here. Maybe there are some additives that you could add to the wax to enhance its appearance, I'm not really sure. I just have learned to embrace soy and all of its "wonders". LOL
  2. Could anyone that has experience help me out with premier wicking? I am trying to wick an 8 oz jj with c3 wax - 7% fragrance oil and 2 dye chips per lb. I have tried 750 -not big enough no full melt pool by 3rd burn. 755 same as 750. 760 not too much better but ok. I like the way the 765 burns but I did test the 767 and it was way too hot and mushrooming really bad. Is 765 about right??
  3. You guys are surely right about the note taking. Looked through some old forums and notes and low and behold I tested some of those fragrances before and had no luck...so why in the world did I test those again???? I dunno is the bast answer that I can give. I am retesting c3 wax again and hopefully I'll have better luck this time.
  4. Tonight I poured in C3 wax - Tangerine and Peach from Candlewic and Fillmore Cranberry Citrus at 7%. I used dye chips for both applications. Trying to wick this in an 8 oz jelly jar. I tried the Premier wicks in the past and they were so/so. Tried Eco wicks and they would always flop right over into my wax no matter what size I used. CDs are ok but I get a lot of soot with those. CD 10 seems to be the best fit. I used to use cotton core wicks with my 415. I just purchased some 51-32-18 Paper core wicks from Candles and Supplies on my last visit. May give them a try. Can anyone offer any other insight? I really liked the ecos and wanted them to work but it just isn't going to happen. The premier wicks I never felt like I found the right combo. 765 was too big and so was 767. 760 was not producing a great melt pool and neither did 755. Thank you in advance for any help that you can provide me. This cranberry citrus screams "The Holidays are Coming"....I love absolutely love it.
  5. I, too, took part of this sale. I only ordered some of the KY fragrance oils that I just love. Birthday Cake, Cherries n Chestnuts, Lemon Pound Cake, Pearberry, Sweet Potato Spice, Strawberry Rhubarb, Sugar Cookie, Pumpkin Pie, Peach Pie, Mulberry - HI type, Island Mango, Icy Peppermint, Apple Clove Butter, Apple Jack n Peel, Cinnamon Red Hot, Coconut Cream Pie, Homemade Apple Pie, MacApple, Plumberry Spice and Vanilla Lime. Some of these are new to me but I just love the KY Birthday Cake, Lemon Pound Cake and Pearberry.
  6. I didn't care for their version of Monkey Farts but their Mac Apple and Black Raspberry Vanilla are great. Their fast shipping is awesome and so is their customer service.
  7. I did try their Japanese Cherry Blossom and didn't really care for it. Unless I add 9% of fragrance oil, I struggle with Iced Lemon Biscotti but no one else seems to. Not really sure why that is. I will tell you though that I love their Cranberry Citrus and their Sweet Orange and Chili Pepper in C3 wax. :-)
  8. 415 wax 8 oz jj cd wick 1 ounce per lb 1 dye chip per lb Day 6 - Burn # 1 -- Full melt pool, no mushrooming of the wick, scent throw strong in large bedroom it was burning in and through part of the dining room. Melt pool was not more than 1/4" inch deep. Very happy with the burn. I bet it will get stronger as it cures longer.
  9. Moonstar I used a Premier 760 and it was plenty hot enough.
  10. Candybee, no I haven't tried another wick. I didn't attach the wick at the bottom, so I may yank it out and put in the next size lowest wick. Thank you for the suggestion. :-)
  11. Awe those were sweet words of encouragement. I promise you I won't give up. Thank you so very much. ?
  12. c3 wax 8 oz jj 767 premier wick 7% fragrance oil cured 11 days Barely any throw on test burn #1 and #2. :-(
  13. Wick - Premier - 760 - which had a great melt pool but the flame was huge on both burns 8 oz jj no color 7% in C3 wax Cured 2 weeks This candle had absolutely no scent throw at all for me. :-(
  14. Faerywren - I will be honest soy will drive you crazy or at least it is driving me bonkers. I am having some scents throw excellent and some not at all. I have Cranberry Marmalade curing in some palm wax and some 6006 as we speak and I'm looking forward to reporting back with my results. Thank you for your support. :-)
  15. Thank you Vicky_co - I sure will. I'll be honest...I want to stay with all soy; however, I have only made the palm candle, the parasoy and the 415 wax so far....and I have to say that the palm wax and the parasoy have a better cold throw than the 415.... I guess we will wait and see what happens.
  16. If you are looking for sage and citrus, Millcreek has one that smells just like Yankee's. Also, I think Bittercreek has one in their WYW line.
  17. I think I have confused myself with trying different waxes, wicks, scents and dyes. So I have decided to completely start over and see what combinations work. I am am using cranberry marmalade from candle science in the following waxes and then I will test which wick series works best in the wax combo that I select. I am making up a candle in the following waxes... c3 415 464 444 crystalizing Palm wax 6006 This way I can see how the different waxes set up and how their scent throw is and so forth.
  18. I can't imagine a cd14 in a jelly jar if the 12 is way too hot for me. Yikes. ? I did purchase some 6006 wax to try. Maybe that'll work better for me than all soy. I will start at a cd8 for that like you stated and see where that goes. Thank you for your suggestion. ? Have a great day. ?
  19. Hello all. I am trying to wick an 8 oz jelly jar comparing two waxes. I am testing the 464 wax from Candle Science and the 415 from Candle Science. I am using Watermelon fragrance oil at one ounce per pound. I have cured these candles for one week. I am using red liquid dye which totally made a mess I might add. :-( Well burn #1 - in the 464 and in the 415 the flame almost went out and was tunneling right down the center of the jar using a cd 10 wick in both combinations. When I first started making candles again I used the cd 12 in the bittercreek kit that I got and the cd 12 was too large for the jelly jar. So I thought by dropping down to a 10, it would work....I was wrong.... I may try a different wicking series and see what happens. I have visited candles and supplies in Quakertown, PA, and they stated that there should be no reason why a cd 10 is not burning my combination but it just isn't. I know that what works for one person may not work with another.
  20. After curing Sweet Strawberry for one week, I tested this scent at 7% in an 8 oz jj with c3 wax and premier wicks. The first two hours barely got any scent at all but after that the scent throw was strong and i was happy with it. Will let this candle finish curing for the two weeks. I also tried this scent in EcoSoya Xcel and got no throw at all.
  21. Hello all. I have been really busy testing and testing but I have to say that Tangerine Peach from Candlewic is super great! I tested this scent at 7% in c3 wax with premier wicks and cajun orange candle dye in an 8 oz jj. I cured this candle for a week. The fragrance was throwing from the bedroom through the connecting dining room and kitchen all the way to the laundry room and to the back door.
  22. Moonstar, I have never used beeswax or coconut oil to any wax. Might be worth a try.
  23. Wow -you guys are superb....I will try again and again. Thank you so much for your help....Shewy this is harder than I thought but I'm learning so much...who knew it could be so complicated??? Well I tried the EcoSoya XCel - that wax is "sticky" like and I didn't have much smell when the in both candles...I don't like this wax at all. The Flaming Candle where I bought the kit from shipped super fast. I think I had my items in 2 days. WOW!!! Not sure about the ECO wicks either. I will try the 464 wax. Never have yet. I have read good things about the c3 wax as well.
  24. I am trying to wick an 8 oz jelly jar with the 415 wax. I am using a cd 10 wick as recommended from candles and supplies. I had quite a bit of hangup on the opposite side of the wick after the third burn. I used 1 ounce per lb of fragrance oil - lemon something---sorry can't remember--...I also made one and wicked it with a cd 12 wick and jinkies that thing was a little hot but I had a nice burn all the way down. The wick started sooting the jar and the flame got really big towards the bottom which concerned me a little. What do I do in this instance? The scent was not very good in the cd 10 jar. I don't think that the wax was getting hot enough to let the scent escape. I could be wrong though. Please help. I will do my own testing - but what do you do in this case? I am at a real loss.
  25. Old Glory - thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I am so sorry that you have lost friends over candlemaking. I will tell you this. Candle making is not easy as I am learning...plus it is expensive...but I enjoy it very much. I want to try the 464 wax...I guess I'll get around to it here soon. I am also interested in testing the c-3 just to see what I like best. I broke down and told my friend about me being interested in candlemaking. She uses the EZSoy from Bittercreek and Eco wicks. She said she uses Millcreek oils, Bittercreek and CandleScience oils. She said she has had good luck with those. So she did share that. She thought it was great that I was giving it a go. :-) She said that she tried the CD wicks and didn't like them at all.
