  1. Have any of you come across a place where clear plastic lids for tumblers can be purchased similar to what yank uses? I'd really love to find a supplier for ones to fit round and square tumblers! I've been searching & searching with no luck!! Please post or pm me if you know of a place! Thanks
  2. What a great idea with the scented bread!! That is a great alternative to the scented stuffed bears and stuff!! Are those the ones they sell in the craft section at walmart? My husband and I were fascinated at how real they looked! How Very creative of you!!!
  3. just came across this site with their 'innovative' pillar candles. looks like they poke a hole down the length of the candle offset from the wick and fill it up with some essential oil...then likely plug the top with a little wax... .doesn't seem too safe to me! take a look.. www.aznaturals.com/candles.htm
  4. Does anyone know of a supplier for the square tumblers? I know some here have found them at places like biglots and clearance counters but I would prefer to find a supplier. I love these containers!!..I just wish they were being produced with a lid as well!! Thanks!
  5. I was wondering if anyone has found a supplier besides barnloft that sells the frostop/frost stop or an additive that works the same since barnloft wont have it available til next year? ( I am using C3 soy) I read on here that someone was using crisco shortening instead of the frostop and that they werent getting the frost issues after a few days... soo.. I am also wondering if anyone can tell me if the crisco has helped long-term to keep the candles from frosting?
  6. Romasoy...I'm asking this out of sincere curriosity... I've heard of people having allergies to soy when eaten... but are you saying people allergic to soy have also gotton sick or could potentially die by burning a soy candle? And I'm referring only to the soy.. not the fragrance oils used in them. Wow.. I was away a couple days and now I'm trying to get caught up on just this one thread! Its been enlightening.. fun .. and at times annoying to read the debate.. but all in all ...its been an informative debate.
  7. What brand of electric tart warmers and electric candle warmers do you all find to work the best for scent throw?
  8. Maybe she had you confused with someone else..? Just a thought...Perhaps you should politely know her know you appreciate her interest and that a customer can get a free sample with each order when requested. Then throw in a tealight candle with one of your new scents or something along the line of what they are already ordering. A local flower shop that sells candles sets out tealights (1 per person) to sample one of their new scents each month. I love that!! Come on...everyone loves getting some freebees! Thats what keeps me going back to certain suppliers!
  9. That would be my kind of luck! Maybe you should have lit a path of candles leading up to your door to let them know you were home!?
  10. Thanks for all the replys!! anyone else having repeated sucess with the 464 that was mentioned?
  11. I'm wanting to switch to another "hot pour'' soy or soy/blend because of batch inconsistances and the constant need for retesting everytime I order another slab of wax. So what would all you hard core candle makers out there recommend for a hot pour soy or soy blend wax that stays consistant for wicking from batch to batch and still has a great appearance and hot throw? (also, I'm fond of the LX wicks and hope that someone here that uses that particular wick with good results in a particular soy or soy blend wax can help me out)
  12. I'm totally new at making candles. I'm using J223 wax and had bought the 8oz metro/status. I got wet spots gallore on the jars that I put on my kitchen window sill.. and the ones on the counter look fine!. My guess is the cold is causing the wet spots because the other candles down on the counter look fine.( I'm in the frozen tundra...a.ka.. Northern NY) Right now I'm having a much bigger problem with just wicking these candles..Gerrrr! ... but the apperance of the wet spots do bug me! Im making these to give as gifts .. and wanted them to be...well,..Perfect!!
  13. This board has THE MOST SUPPORTIVE and Helpful people I've even known!!Thanks for all the replies!! If anyone else has had experience with these jars and j223 wax please chime in. My jars dont seem thin..put the lids dont want to stay on some of them. ( got them at candles & supplies in PA.) I have read over and over on here that the jars from fancycandlejars were quite thin. Is that were you got your jars Saltbox Pantry?? I deciced I won't be placing another order for wicks until after I recieve my free wax sample from Brenda at Greenleaf. I'm waiting on pins & needles after hearing all the great reviews on that wax!!! I guess from there I will decide which wax I like the best to put in the jars for gifts and which ones I'll just keep for myself. Hopefully I can get both of the waxes wicked correctly in these jars by mothers day!! Besides the challenge of wicking..... My biggest desire is to present my mom and sisters a candle with great hot throw and NO Sooting!!! Those are the two biggest reasons for making them myself for gifts!..well, and it seemed like a fun idea ..at the time!
  14. Why not just one number ?? Does anyone know...What do each of the number stand for??
  15. Ok.. Im completely new at this... someone Please help the newbie!! I'm using an 8oz status/metro jar with an approximate 2 3/4" opening. Using J223 wax , no color, and 1oz vanilla per pound. I need help with what wicks have Worked for others and also what supplier do you purchase from?? One was too high a flame, ...one two low... one limped over and drowned..poor thing!!... and then when i thought i had gotten it right.. black soot shooting up from the flame.. regardless of how much i trimmed it. My DH heard me crying in my wax.. Again!.. and said.. "Please Dont tell me you are going to buy more stuff again!!" Help!!! ..save my marriage ,,, my hobbie,,, my petty cash fund!! I wanted to make some nice candles to give to my mom, sister, and sister-in-laws by mothers day!! My DH said I could have bought a dozen from a shop in the mall for what i've spent so far on all the supplies just to make a few candles for myself and others. Also.. this wax has a great cold throw.. the jury is still out obviously on the hot throw! what container wax have the rest of you found to have the Ultimate Hot Throw??
  16. I love it! What immediatly came to mind was mothers day, and I would sit it next to a vase filled with daffodils! To each its own I guess! I'm new to candle making...soo this might sound dumb.. but how on earth did you get such a beautiful High Gloss on your candles??
  17. Newbee here! hi everyone!! I've been following Donitia and Tuckers threads for a few months now!! You two have really inspired me!! Beautiful work!! I need to get some hurricane wax and give it a try! You give much better directions then I have come across on the net or in a book! The two of you need to collaborate and put out a book!!!! Donitia, 1. Ditto on lin's question... and 2. how do you get the corkboard to stick to the bottom so it doesnt fall off??
