  1. wow extremely professional appearance! They remind me of a beautiful sun rise!!
  2. Surf N Turf,.. turkey frier, whatever you want to call it, after I read about it here, I got the same one from bedbathnbeyond on clearance too!! I did a little happy dance after the first use with mine!! The kids, and husband were so happy that I freed up the counters and stove-top that they joined in on the happy dance with me!! :yay::yay::highfive::highfive: This has become an expensive little hobby!! I dont know what it means ,,.. but I've overheard them whispering..... shhh.....making them keeps her sane!
  3. Do you mean want to know where to buy the whole thing or just the bulbs? When I opened the link the title on the pic says faux candles... it looks like a hollow plastic candle with an electric silicone bulb. You could buy a scented grubby or hurricane candle with a silicone bulb insert. I'm sure there are people on here that sell them, or you can even look up ways to make one and could probably duplicate the drippy wax look.
  4. :wave:Hi Bernadette!! Please dont be a bashful poster!! With that many years of candle making experience under your belt you would be a real asset to this board!! Do you make other types of wax candles as well?? Welcome!!! ,.. and I hope to be reading more of your posts!!
  5. Very nice!! I love the framed-design around the pic!
  6. heres a link to the story from msnbc... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17104191/
  7. Sound yummy!! Has anyone tested any of them in C3 soy with any sucess??
  8. I was testing some tea light wicks once and had a rough wick, tab & all, swim over to the edge of tea light cup,... but luckily I noticed it before it did too much damage!! It permanently yellowed the little clear plastic cup before I extinguished it. The cups had slightly recessed circles in the bottoms that I thought it would keep the tab in place...Apparently I was Wrong! Now, I only use pre-tabbed tea light wicks that have really large round bottoms on them, that way they there is no way the flame can swim too close the edge of the tea light cup. I simply cant imagine having to take the time of securing wicks onto tea light cups, especially if I had to do alot of them! Has anyone that uses the silicone to secure their wicks is jars ever has a wick that came loose while burning a candle?
  9. Dont know if this will help .. but this is what I do: I turn on my electric turkey fryer thats filled up with plain soy wax, poke relief holes in the wax , set the temperature control and hit the start button. While the wax is heating up get out all of my supplies, wick my jars and get out my 'two' large heat safe glass pour pots. (The pour pots I use were my moms old fashioned large glass cooking pots very similar to glass carafe coffee pots but no metal bands around them.. all heat-safe glass and they have lip on them for pouring like a coffee carafe. But I think pyrex makes some large 4 cup glass measuring cups that would work well also) Once the wax in the fryer is up to temp;..'beep' I set one of the glass pots (pot #1) on the scales and zero the scales. Then with the pot still on the scale I pour the fo into the pot to weigh (amount of fo will depend on how many pounds of wax I plan to use) I remove pot #1 with the Fo in it and zap it in the micro for 15 seconds .(edit.. remember.. this is an all glass pot without metal that I'm putting in the microwave. If your using glass with any metal on it or metal pour pots Dont put it in the micro, instead you could place those types of pots on an electric skittle to warm the fo if you want to) I take glass pot #2, put it on the scale, zero the scales. Then add the warmed wax from the fryer until I have the correct weight I plan to use. (If I accidently put in too much wax, I can easily pour some of the wax back into the fryer since it doesnt have any fo or additives mixed in it yet and reweigh the wax in pour pot #2 on the scales) I then pour the warmed fo from pot #1 into pot #2 filled with plain wax and then any other ingredients such as uv or color and stir for 2-3 minutes. Depending on your wax, you can pour into jars after mixing or wait for it to drop to a certain temp before pouring. Some people here have mentioned using an electric skittle to place their pour pots on to keep everything up to temp while your preparing your batch of wax . When done, I just wipe out the 2 pour pots with paper towels and throw them in the dishwasher. Viola.. no big time messes to clean up!! HTH
  10. Ohh a small metal crimp!! now i get it! I thought you meant you just the wick itself! Thanks!
  11. Hooo-Lay-Mole-LEE!! Makes one think!.. its all in the marketing!! Neat container, it reminds me of those old fashioned glass refrigerator containers my grandmother used to have. But Now theres a safe candle, it'll probably drown its self out after a few good burns. One wick is real stretch in that shaped container!! Apparently they save time and pocket all the money by skipping that little tedious step called : testing !! Gessh... what were we thinking!!
  12. What a thoughful thing to do!!! That is sooo nice of you!! I'll bet they'll love em!!!! I just love making candles to give away to others!! Have fun pouring!!! My son loved the c-3 candles I was testing with peaks ocean so much he stole them!!!,... he said he just wanted to help out and finish testing them for me! hee hee! I'm secretly making him a bigger one this weekend with what fo I have left!! I cant explain it ,.. but,..Making candles makes me happy!!
  13. They are both sooo great!! I love the pearlized color and appearance of the cane, but the blue pillars left me awed because they struck like you'd captured the tops of fresh cut flowers !!
  14. You may want to look at a jewelry supply website for small glass beads. I know my husband uses glass beads for some of his fishing lures because they make a clanking sound under the water to attract the fish. He found some at JoAnn fabrics last summer. Vicky, please dont laugh at my stupidity, but I dont know what you mean by crimping the wick? Is there a tool that crimps it? So,can you crimp it at any spot between the wick tap and the top of the wick and it will it completely extinguish the flame once it reaches it??? Confused!
  15. Ive been waiting to see if someone will have the time to post a tutorial on everlasting Gel candles with the tea-light inserts in the top. I've seen the paraffin pillar everlasting with the tea-lights inserted in the top and I would guess that it would be a great option especially for the gel candle lovers!! That way people can retain the beauty of your candles and still enjoy lighting it up! Your work is inspiring, I love the simple elegance of the gel in those glasses!! I soo want to play with gel, yet I still havent placed an order for it. Ive been playing with some c3 soy and need to spend the dough-ray-me on some new FO's. I had no idea the gel was so expensive?!!!! I guess I'll have to do some price comparisons before i consider ordering some.
  16. So Please Dont throw in the towel just yet!! Everyone has given great suggestions!! More info is needed in order to help. Alot of factors can affect the final product, .. are you melting the wax over direct or indirect heat? at what temp ? ... are you letting your candles cure for awhile before burning them? I started out with a para-soy blend and though I got alot of fo's to throw in it,.. there was also a weird odor that I eventually attributed to the wax, especially if i accidentally overheated the wax ! Now I'm using c3 and finally got one of my fo's to work! Its Peaks ocean and it took a bit longer to cure before I got a scent throw.,.. but now all i smell is the FO and not some weird wax odor!! Its working for me, so I'm gonna stick with this wax, and am going to order more fo's from Peaks since my fo's from another supplier just are not working with this particular wax. Update us with each step of your process and the amounts you use! There are soo many experienced people on here that can help!!
  17. I dont do re-dips, so maybe others that do can chime in as to whether or not the electric turkey fryer was useful as well. Also, I'm using soy wax and I dont know if this has been a useful gadget for melting high point paraffin? Can anyone chime in on this?? I am sooo glad I found this board!! I saw the post regarding the electric turkey fryers here, and the masterbuilt one was on clearance at bedbath&beyond. It already has a spigot, and a built in digital thermometer!!! I ordered it right away!! my husband laughed at first because I currently only making candles for friends & family, but this thing has been a blessing as far as 'safety', cleanup and ease!!! At times I was accidentally overheating wax when using the stove top, and the messes I was making became time consuming. It has saved me alot of time and headach when making candles!! I set the digital temp, poke relief holes in the wax, and get everything else set up and ready while it heats the wax up for me!!! I use the spigot to pour wax into a pour pot, then add the fo to the wax in the pour pot. Trust me its an investment you wont regret!! And you dont havet to keep taking the wax's temp like its a newborn with a cold!!! they still have some on clearance.. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/stylePage.asp?order_num=-1&RN=774 :yay: Thanks to everyone that got the word out about this wonderful gadget!! I'm loving it!! And my family thanks you too!!!!
  18. Wow!! Very Clever !! They look beautiful!!
  19. Gosh Vicky thats too bad! I'll be sending prayers to your family!!
  20. Ohh my gosh I LOVE the tall pink one in the front!! It looks like pink champagne! I'd love to see it with a couple strawberry embeds drops in it!! You do great work!! You say use to make?? Why did you stop?
  21. Love it! The color and the texture reminded me when my husband and I were stationed in the desert in CA, in the distance the mountains would take on a purplish hue at different times of the year. (everyone out there in the desert called them..'hills' ,...they looked like mountains to me!!)
  22. I hear that! I been testing with some veggie-wax dipped htps and though I'm getting a great hot throw... one gets too hot and discolors the wax and next size down doesnt achieve a full melt pool. I'm gonna pull out the lx's, rrd's, and eco's tonight and start switching out wicks! Testing can be frustrating.. but its not soo bad when your testing a great scent!
  23. I used peaks ocean @ 7% in c3 soy about a month ago. I'm still playing around testing wicks.. but man is that thing ever throwing now!! At first I was worried about using such a light scent in soy, and then after 2 weeks I thought it wasnt gonna work cause I still wasnt getting much hot throw .. but 4 weeks later and its throwing like crazy! A little on-the-rocks tumbler filled my living room with the ocean scent!! It kinda hard to describe but has a clean salty scent., I suppose like ocean air. My 22 yr old son like this one,..and he's normally not too wild about candle scents. Peaks FO's Rock! I wish I knew another FO supplier that had designer scents that worked just as well in my c3 natural wax. I've wasted soo much money on FO's & wasted wax that ended up failing.
  24. I'd love to know too! My daughter loves that scent!!
  25. I'm testing Ocean from peaks right now in C3 Soy. It took over a month,..but I am now having a super hot throw!! My 22 yr old son likes it. You can smell the salty air. The cold throw has been great from early on!!
