  1. That would definitely be a "guy thing." Maybe I can get DH helping if I had them....HMMMM, quite a fine idea!
  2. Thanks! I think you both answered my question. I was trying to find a way to get vivid color without causing other problems (frosting or odor). It looks like I was given many ideas to try. Never thought about adding black (but then again, I don't have any black color block). The CC black will definitely be on my wish list.
  3. Never used one before but I can give you a general answer... An embossing gun is more straight than a heat gun (size of paper towel middle) and is used with embossing powders...you take a stamp, dip in a special embossing stamp pad (not sure what this is, but it is wet), then dip in embossing powder...usually a metallic powder. You stamp on cards then heat up. The heat sets the powder on the card and adds a raised, 3-D effect to it. I'm sure you could use for other stuff (than cards) but that was the demo that I saw once on TV. HTH!
  4. Look at Target or Wallyworld to see if you can find some kitchen wipes that cut thru grease to see if you can clean off the scale tray stickiness. After that, I would cover it with something...like was suggested.
  5. It is allowed...just post in the classifieds. Many people trade on this board! HTH!
  6. Thanks to both of you...I would consider you both experts. I might take you up on your offer, Top. Thanks, again, for all of your help and time! Angie
  7. Got it (about the order). I actually realized what you said after I replied. Very nice color in soy! Thanks!
  8. Is that a natural wax or does that have para? Great vivid color...that is what I am looking for. That is a good idea..you use the liquid then supersaturate with a little extra if you need. Thanks! Angie
  9. Thanks, Top. Are you finding that you can add red and get red, not pink or purple and not get lavender? I really like the natural waxes but I can't seem to get past the pastel stage without adding a lot of color block. I would like to be able to make my soy candle whatever color suits the fragrance and sometimes, pastel doesn't cut it. For example, I would want a cinnamon candle to be red and a pine to be deep green. So, do you think I should try them out? Thanks! Angie
  10. Wondering if anyone could give me input on whether this product is effective in getting more vivid colors in natural waxes. It looks rather interesting since there are no solvents like the liquid dyes do. What do you think?
  11. I have a friend like that... I am nowhere near selling my candles yet but I know when it is time, that she will be my best salesperson. Gotta love a friend like that!
  12. Maybe I did...there was this odd lady there reading all of the greeting cards out loud as if she had a friend with her. She was commenting about how that card "just wouldn't do" and how much fun she has at the dollar store. Does that sound like your ex-wife?
  13. In my "Candlemaking for Fun and Profit" book, there is a listing for the American Craft Council at www.craftcouncil.org . Part of the membership is supposed to include access to property and casualty insurance which will cover the studio, transit, and show and liability insurance up to $1 million. There is contact info on the website. Might be worth checking out before dishing out for the membership. According to the book, the policy is supposed to cost between $250 to $500 per year depending on city, state and value of your items being insured. This book was printed in 2000 so I will bet money that the cost has gone up but it is way better than $6000. HTH!
  14. I was cruising the aisles looking for glassware and there I find empty Henri Bendel Candle tumbers with the names of all of the different scents. Some of them had wicks attached in the empty glass. I just thought it weird that they would allow those to get out to the dollar store. If I was a crook (not that I would ever do this), I could fill them with the scents and sell them for mucho money. I almost bought one so I could post it! It doesn't look like wax was ever poured in them...I wonder what happened?
  15. I know that many add beeswax to their soy to improve the tops. That I think is about it!
  16. I think they look great! I like your labels, too!
  17. Check at your local high schools. If the school doesn't want to do a fundraiser, maybe one of the clubs or groups might want one (drama, cheer, band, key club, etc). At the beginning of the year, they start collecting for grad night at the school. That would be a great fundraiser...my DD is a soph in HS and when we went to the PTA meeting, they said they needed $60k for grad night! Granted the school is going to graduate about 650 students but how much does that work out to per head? 60K is a lot of car washes and bake sales. They might like something special for holidays...wax dipped rose to give to someone on Valentine's Day, or a dipped bear. If you go to church, try there. Maybe you can do a fundraiser for missions, for the youth group if they have one, etc. You can also try YMCA, the public library (they usually have rooms that you could set up your items). It seems there are plenty of non-profits that are looking for extra money and good products. I haven't done it before, but they are just ideas. HTH!
  18. Most parties where there is a hostess, you would want to set a set fee for say the first 5-10 kids. Then after that, charge per child. That way, if you only get 3 kids, you aren't out the time and effort that you are spending to go, set up, clean up, etc.
  19. It needs to cool as slowly as possible. I had the same problem with the "look" of the crystals but I poured and cooled in the garage. The next time I made a container, I put my container in my double boiler which I had turned off and let the cooling warm water slowly cool the candle. The crystalline formation was much better this way. Try that and see how it goes. It is so pretty to see the container candle burn with this type of wax. The sides don't melt down and it illuminates as the candle burns down. HTH!
  20. Coal Tar is very good for psoriasis. You should have some good luck selling it, especially if you hid the scent well. Coal tar is pretty strong! Good job!
  21. I registered at Yahoo as well. They have some templates when you sign in and you can change your page to a different background. I just put for now, Site Under Construction...Come back soon I also have my address (PO Box) and e-mail address on the page. That takes that obnoxious page away! Then start working on your site. Eventually, I want to start using it as a gallery before I start the e-commerce site. HTH!
  22. That is great. Choose a dark intense color (hot pink, red, purple). That will be nice at Easter! Post a pic of whatever you make!
  23. I would try lavender. Lemon Lavender is Yank-me's new scent. Also, Lavender Vanilla is nice, so I think that would be a winner
  24. Very pretty soap...and great name! Great job!
