  1. I poke relief holes when the skins starts to really gel. Then I go back and do it again maybe an hour later. It takes my pillars..3 inch rounds...4 to 5 inches tall...about 3 to 4 hours to completely cool.
  2. I love using the auto wick pins. But, they only come in votive and 3 inch round pillars so far that I have found. Does anyone know of a company who sells wick pins that fit into other pillar mold shapes? I have looked at Bitter Creek and Peaks and can't find anything I am looking for. Would love to try making square pillars or the corrogated...and other shapes, but can't find the wick pins for them. I layer my candles...have to lay the molds sideways at an angle so it's hard to do the wick manually. Thanks is advance. J.
  3. In my experience you really have to let the wax cool in the mold so your repours won't take alot more wax. When I repour and the mold is still warm there have been times when I had to repour 2 or 3 times. Try letting the mold get almost cool to the touch. I have gotton busy sometimes and forgotton to repour til it's almost cool and when I do repour...it comes out perfectly...no leveling at all needed. Give it a try. J.
  4. I am pouring it today. I must admit I thought it would have alittle spice to it, but it seems very tart and punchy to me. I threw in just a tad of spice. J. Great throw.....cold and hot.
  5. Yup..that's what they are called, but I have never heard of it. There is no scent to it...very nice for creative types to make their own stuff. Just wondered if anyone has seen these in stores, etc...I have never seen them before so never heard of pastilles...what else are they used for???
  6. Or maybe you wouldn't even call it a candle...it's tiny beads of wax...looks like little stones...you drop the wicks in and just light it up. My girlfriend just brought a bag of this back from Mexico, but the company is in the US. I don't shop much so didn't know if this is available all over or is well known. They are very pretty. http://www.candlescapes.com/home.php
  7. I melt my wax in an electric fondue pot..holds about 3 lbs of wax and then pour into pyrex measuing cups...the big ones that hold 32 oz. That way I can eyeball the color and also get a measurement. The wax does cool down a bit, but it's never been a problem. j.
  8. I'm pouring Mulled Cider from WYW...it's so strong in the pot..hope the throw is that good. I have had such good luck with the Bamboo I'm sure this will be great, too. Going to a dinner party tomorrow nite..15 women who get together once a year...Am burning a few during the party and will have some stock available if anyone is interested. Hoping to bring in some cash!!!! Am using a new dye, too, so this should be interesting when I pull them out of the molds!!!
  9. I've been using the same wick stick 'em for about 2 months...works like a charm..no leak..nuthin!!!!!
  10. I bet there are people who go to KFC and ask for the recipe!!!! Haaaaa Haaaaaa...like those employees would know. People are soooooooooo Strange!!!!!!!!!
  11. They look quite tall. How much wax did you use and how much would you sell them for??? I am working with a pound for each candle and just am not sure how to price them. My cost is about 3.00, but they look kinda small to ask 10.00 for. I do the layered pillars and they are very labor intensive, tho.
  12. Much more creative than mine sitting in the dish drainer!!!!! in the sink.
  13. I am looking for a good scale for measuring scent. The one I am using now is very hard to read. I know I need a digital...any suggestions where you all got yours?
  14. I only use wick pins also for my pillars. I also work with the 4625 wax. I can't imagine messing around with the wicks and screws, etc. And sometimes I just drop the pins into the mold and make 'em that way. Gives 'em alittle dip on the top of the candles...just something different...I'll put a pinch of glitter in my wax after the dye and scent..stir and pour. The glitter falls to the bottom..which ends up being the top and they turn out so cool. Glitter in the burn pool. I just bought some wick stick 'ems and put on the bottom of the mold over the hole for when I put the wick pins inside.
  15. It's such a great thing to express your creativity. I have a job that sucks the life out of me..and when I have my candle days on the weekend....it's just like a breath of fresh air. I agree..I love every part of it, but especially taking those babies out of the molds...I've been working on layered pillars..I never write anything down..just eyeball the color and the layers. Each one is different and just such a gas. I never would consider it work. J.
  16. Can I ask why you prefer your candles to leave a shell? I have been working with wicks like crazy lately and I have come to the conclusion that the ones that leave the shell burn much much slower...thus giving the customer more candle hours...as opposed to using a larger wick ...consuming the whole candle, but the burn so fast. Is that why the shell is your preference? Just wondering. J.

  18. I just started making candles last year. This is the only wax I have ever used. I just got used to it and didn't want to try all over again with another type before I got this one down. You do have to wait til it cools enough to do the repour. Also, don't forget to poke your relief holes. This wax is great for rustics. Just add scent and color at 185 and then cool down to about 160 to pour. Great results. I just started trying the rustics recently. They are so fun if you layer them...never know how they will turn out. I like the way this wax looks when it burns with a light dye. Nice glow to it. J.
