  1. I use the "old fashion" clothespins that just slide on the clothes not the spring clip most people use today. I tie a thread right under the head & dip them in strongly scented votive or tart wax. I dip them twice, letting them dry between dips. I tie them in a bundle of 3 with a strip of homespun or muslin cloth. I found they do look ugly if dipped more than twice & hurricane wax didn't work well as it tended to crack. I hang mine on a peg and I made some for a friend who puts them in a bowl in her laundry room. I think of them more as a conversation piece than anything else tho in my small bathroom I can smell them up close & after a shower.
  2. I've tried Lebermuth, TSW version & one other but not Candle Science. Of the 3 I only like Lebermuth. It's awesome!
  3. I give soap that I don't like to a shelter for victims of domestic violence. It is much appreciated. I also gave some to a group of women who were preparing packages to send to soldiers. I figure somebody will like the scent!
  4. I was at a hardware store the other day & they had a little display thing with drawers for selling corks & they had lots of sizes of corks. Maybe a hardware store near you sells corks & you could take your bottle in & see what size fits.
  5. It seems each supplier has its own interpretation of this scent. I like the one from BCN because it does not have the almond cherry smell to it.
  6. I don't know what tuberose is supposed to smell like but I got a free sample of Tuberose Moss in my order from Brambleberry and it's very nice.
  7. Sorry -I thought I saw a post on here about this but couldn't find it. Just DID find it. If someone can delete this-that would be fine! Thanks I realize it would depend on the oils in your recipe but does anyone know how old CP soap can be and still be good? I have a bar that's 4yrs old & other than shrinking some, still looks & smells as good as the day I got it. I never did use it because it smelled so good & was wrapped in gorgeous fabric.
  8. I just got a sample of Cedar & Saffron from BCN & OOB it's very nice. I don't know if Mahogany from Daystar is a guy scent or not & I haven't used it in anything but I love it OOB. I think it could be a unisex scent. Canyon de Chelly(Daystar) seems pretty good OOB. My son's teen friends like Peak's spiced cranberry in soap. I've used mostly dupes in soap & B&B.
  9. Now that I've bought some I can answer my own question. LOL! If anyone else is interested in knowing-JS sugared spruce is nowhere near the same! It smells like some pine cleaner to me -ohhh-so disappointing.
  10. I've tried Pink Sugar from Scent Works, BCN, NG, Fragrance By Design and ICS and I like ICS the BEST!
  11. I've used Green Irish Tweed & Blue Sugar from The Scent Works in CP & they both did very well. Green Irish Tweed is even better in CP than OOB. Just got samples of Burberry Touch type and D&G type from Save On Scents. Have not soaped them yet but they are both nice guy scents OOB.
  12. Does anyone know if JS sugared spruce is anything like Peak's or ICS? Thanks
  13. After seeing a post in October about Tyler dupes I've been to the starrville site a few times but it still says they are in the process of changing ownership. Does anyone know what is going on? Just wondering as I'd like to buy some Tyler dupes. Thanks
  14. I keep a Word document too but I have it in ABC order by the name of the scent. With a scent like all of the vanillas, I list vanilla, ultimate or vanilla, velvet, etc. I put the suppliers too. Then I make a short note of OOB opinion. I keep my notes of how it performed in a product in a notebook but someday I might get ambitious & add those notes to the Word document. If I didn't have that document I'd have duplicate scents too!! I also keep lists of scents I want to try from different suppliers-you know how you want to feed the addiction so you go and fill a shopping cart but you can't afford it so you just make a wish list!LOL
  15. Why does soap in the DoRight mold take so long to harden? Does this happen to all recipes using this mold? Is the problem resolved if a water discount is done? Is this a problem for molds that are not wooden? I used the shortening & shea sudsy recipe, wrapped the mold in towels, & also let it set for 5 days but it was so soft & sticky - like playdough - when I finally got it out. Have used this recipe in a Misty Creek mold with no problems. Thanks for any answers as I'm trying to decide whether or not to keep this log mold.
  16. I can't get my soap out of the Mr. DoRight mold -can't even get the sides off of the mold. When taking the mold apart, do you take off the short ends or the long ends & do you push them out toward the bottom of the mold or toward the top?? Thanks!!
  17. I found the Mill Creek base to be thick enough after adding FO. I tried bases from BCN, WSP, & Greenleaf & found MC to be less drying. Shipping wasn't as bad as I expected & I live in New England. Customer service was excellent too. I just wish they had a clear base like it! LOL
  18. Thank you to everyone on this board for all of the guidance toward my first colored & scented CP soap!! I had played with some recipes & finally settled on michelleB's recipe and today I made it colored & scented. I used chromium green oxide from Shutterbug's co-op to color the SW Linden Green Tea and Select Shades to color Peaks Cranberry Spice. I wanted to swirl but I divided my Misty Creek mold batch in half & it got too far along in the trace to really swirl so I don't know how it will come out. By then I had to color the Cranberry all one color & it looks like I have pieces of uncolored soap in it. BUT the tops sure are pretty in the mold! It was so traced I could make nice designs in it.LOL Anyway-thank you all for helping me along in my journey & as I make more soap I hope I'll have something to contribute here too!
  19. If a scent is going to fade or morph is there a general time that it will usually happen? I know "general" & "usually" are vague but I've learned that there are too many variables in the soaping world to say it any other way! Thanks
  20. Anyone tried their FOs in CP? I want to order something from them & am thinking of trying some FO. Thanks
  21. I bought lemon kitchen soap with cornmeal and oatmeal. I liked it better than coffee because it was sooo clean smelling. I would buy it again over the coffee even tho I love the smell of coffee. Poppyseeds in lemon soap sounds good to me cause I like my lemon poppyseed bread!lol

    m/p suggestions?

I like the ingredients in SFIC but their clear is not real clear so I buy my clear from WSP. I like the other M&P from WSP too but it has alot of additives. I tried the M&P from Nature's Garden & I didn't like it. It was harder & lasted longer than SFIC & WSP but to me it didn't lather well & I thought it was more drying than the others. I also tried the M&P from Essentials by Catalina & again the clear was not as clear as WSP. I can't remember what I thought about the white base-maybe just decided it wasn't worth the extra shipping as WSP is closer to me.
  23. Can anyone share their experience with this? Have you had problems with it sweating? Is it really clear? I'm thinking of getting some through the co-op but I tried a sample of the low sweat clear and didn't find it very clear at all. I've used WSP extra clear & like that but like the SFIC ingredient list better. Thanks for any help.
  24. You can use salt dough but you should have aluminum foil inside of it with the salt dough covering all of the foil at least 1/4 inch thick. If you don't form your cake around foil it would take very long to dry. In an electric oven you would bake it at 170 but I really don't know for how long. I've baked shapes from cookie cutters for one to two hours at 170 and turned the oven up to 400 to brown them. You can make your dough darker by using very strong coffee and whole wheat flour. Last year people were selling recipes on ebay and some said they use glue and molasses in a salt type dough. Maybe you could find a recipe like that if you do an online search for prim dough recipe. Some people call the cakes "pantry cakes".
  25. I like Mediterranean Spring. It seems there are a lot of lavender combinations out there so I'd want a name that was a little different. As a customer, I might not have an expectation of the scent from this name but I'd be interested enough to sniff it.
