  1. Is it safe to burn a pillar candle on a terracotta saucer that's usually under a flower pot? Would we need to treat the saucer in any way? I'm wondering - since water soaks through a flower pot, would wax soak through the saucer as the candle melts. We want to use them for candlelight decorations at an event & there will be rocks or shells around the base of the pillar on the saucer. Thanks for any help.
  2. I desperately need 4 oz of Peak's BRV & they are out of it. Does anyone know another supplier who's BRV would come close to Peaks? Thanks.
  3. Peak is out of BRV & I need 4 oz like yesterday. Does anyone have 4 oz they're willing to sell? Thanks SORRY - I POSTED THIS IN THE WRONG FORUM.
  4. I'm thinking of purchasing shea butter from bodybuttersuplies.com in North Dakota. Wondering if anyone has purchased from them. TIA
  5. I'm trying to find a scent that reflects evening and/or sunset in a woodsy setting. This is for CP soap. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  6. How do you decide which melters to use for testing if you're not going to sell any melters? I plan to test with a Scentsy burner since they are so popular in my area but will have to buy one & I see they come in so many shapes/sizes & with different bulb sizes. In my home I have a melter which uses a light bulb but most of the time I throw melts in a jar on an old wickless candle melter. I'd really appreciate some direction in getting melters for testing. TIA!
  7. For fall my friends & family like Sweet Pumpkin Spice and Spiced Cranberry from Peaks. The pumpkin discolors to brown but nobody seems to mind. Both are easy to soap and the scent holds well.
  8. Thank you! I didn't notice that "problem" note on the soapcalc. I did as you said & have the old amounts back.
  9. On Aug. 9 I typed in a recipe at soapcalc & decided to try a "water as % of oil wt" of 33%. The results for 56 ounces of oil came out as 18.48 ounces of water & 8.032 ounces of lye. Today I typed in the exact same recipe and it gave me the same water amount but 7.186 ounces of lye. Can anyone calculate this manually & let me know which is the right amount of lye? Also will the soap I made with 8.032 ounces of lye be safe? Both recipes have the 5% super fat/discount. THANKS SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP!
  10. I need to place an order with Brambleberry for some Cedar & Saffron. Am going to try Beau Brummel & wondering if anyone has some favorites for CP. TIA
  11. I have olive oil that I bought last fall & just noticed the expiration date is July 30th. It's been opened & stored in my cool basement & looks, smells & tastes ok. What are your thoughts on using it to make soap? TIA
  12. I love cranberry fig from Elements but nobody else does. I even changed the name but it didn't help. Luckily my sister is very happy to take any of my unpopular scents!
  13. Thanks for posting this. I'm going to give it a try.
  14. I took your survey but I think the answers from people on a soap forum may give different results than the people you're planning to sell to. I think it's safe to assume we're here because we love homemade soap. Since I make my own, I seldom buy it online due to shipping charges but I will buy it at a craft show or farmer's market to see how it compares to my own.
  15. I have an old model of a Canon Pixma inkjet photo printer that has held up very well & does an awesome print job. I got one when I got fed up with HP paper jams. When it dies, if I can't get the exact same thing I'll buy another Canon. Another plus for me was when I called Canon support I got a person who spoke ENGLISH!!
  16. I'm trying to rename Elements' Cranberry Fig & I need a unisex name. To me it's kind of feminine but when I took it to work some guys liked it. I don't think it's strong on the cranberry-enough to cut the sweetness & it has a touch of cloves. I don't think of it as a food scent either. This is what it says on Elements: "Tart Cranberries surrounded by fig leaves & warm clove. The dry down has a lingering scent of sweet vanilla, musk and spicy floral." TIA for any suggestions!
  17. Anyone soaped Vanilla Bean Noel from Tennesee Candle Supplies? Did a search but found only wax applications & it's not on soapscent review. TIA
  18. Raspberry morphed in my batch yesterday-so disappointing. Same recipe & FO I used last year without any problem.
  19. My nieces think ICS is a great dupe. TennCS & Peak have Pink Sugar that is close to ICS IMO. I really liked SW too but I don't buy many oils from them now due to the price. I thought the one from NG wasn't as strong & it seemed sweeter. I tried BCN & Berts & didn't find them as strong as ICS. Also tried AH & it was good but not quite as strong as ICS. I tried so many in an attempt to keep only a few suppliers. I've only used it in CP soap.
  20. I received an email from essentialdepot & lye is on sale. I stopped buying from the "lye guy" because the lye hardened in the bottle quickly-even in a bottle that I didn't open. My experience buying from essentialdepot was a good one.
  21. A few years ago I tried M&P bases from several suppliers & I liked WSP bases best. None of the other clear bases were as clear as the one I use from WSP. Very few people who use my M&P even look at the ingredients so I didn't feel natural ingredients were a bonus. I found the EBC bases to be a bit "rubbery". WSP bases lathered well & lasted longer in the soap dish for me than the others. The white base was very white & didn't sweat like the others I sampled. I don't add other ingredients to them but I have made fish in a bag, aquarium soaps, ducky soaps, etc. & they all came out nice. Have also painted the soaps without any trouble. Their oatmeal base has been popular for me too. Personally, I find ALL M&P bases to be drying to my skin & use only CP soap myself but I like the cute things that can be done with M&P. I'm sure everyone has their own experiences & opinions on all of the available brands of M&P. I'm just sharing my own! I do wish another supplier carried the same bases because I too am tired of all of the changes at WSP.
  22. For anyone who uses or has tried scents from these two companies-do you find them comparable in quality? TIA
  23. Thank you for your replies. I'm so glad to know I can still give those soaps for Christmas presents!
  24. I just cut a 10 week old bar of CP Pink Sugar & it is not brown all the way through. The middle is yellowish. Is this normal? My OMH is like that too but other scents made at the same time are the same color all the way through. I did not put any colorant into the Pink Sugar or OMH as I expected them to turn brown & tan but I thought the color would be uniform all the way through the bars.
  25. I use the Crystal Clear from WSP. Can't remember why I chose this one over the other clear they had but it works great for me.
