  1. Your recipe seems ok, but the only way to truly know is to make a few & try them. If you are satisfied, then give a couple to friends or family & ask their honest opinion. The only thing I don't do is pop mine in the freezer, mine pop out of the molds without it.

There are so many variables when making even the simpliest of candles. The wax, the fragrance, just a whole lots of things. That's why there is no easy 'no fail' recipe for making them. Jump in & try--if you are not satisfied, then try a different fragrance or a different wax.

  2. I think I know exactly what you mean. I had also thought about this a couple of years ago, but never tried it. At Walmart & other stores you can find ice trays that make tubes about 4 to 5 inches long. They are for water bottles. Very cheap. You could make the tubes in them. Let us know how they look.

  3. I have found that there are very few fos that will fill a huge area. But one thing you might consider, is the air currents in your room. Try placing the candle in different areas. I have a huge living area & have very few fos that will scent the room the way I want it to. But it also depends on the fo itself. I've lit one little votive & have been able to smell it thru out the room. We recently had a black out & of course I grabbed candles to help light the house. I think I had 14 containers & pillars burning in the living area. I was testing Greenleaf's wax & fos at the time, but the one scent that overwhelmed everything was a 6 year old lilac pillar! I was floored! So just experiment first with placement, or try burning more than one of the same scent.

  4. If they are wax crumbles, they are really easy to make, just a bit messy. Just make your tart wax as usual & allow it to cool a bit, then whip it like you were going to frost a cake. I use a fork to stir it around until the crumbs start holding together. I usually pour these into a large cake pan & kinda shake it around, this makes the crumbs more round looking. There will be small ones & large ones. I break up the really large ones & kinda squeeze the really small ones into larger ones. I keep this up until I like the finished size. When they have cooled, you will probably have to stir them again because they might stick to the pan a bit. These can be stored in a container, or packages in smaller cello bags. HTH

  5. I also use the q-tip method, but a tad differently. I cut a piece of cardboard about 1 1/2 inch square & place the q-tips on this then pop into a tiny ziplock bag. The cardboard quickly absorbs both fos & I can really get an idea of the combination. The longer they soak, the better. I haven't had any problems with using scents from different suppliers either.

  6. I haven't seen this mentioned, but you might want to simply place the burning candle in a different location. Find the air currents in your room, not a draft, but an air current. You'd be surprised how just placing the candle in different places will change the fragrance. Also, if you have very tall ceilings, such as in an older home, your scent if going up--it will take a while for the scent to fill a room.

  7. I have used the turkey roasters for years. I also blend my own wax, & put 2 slabs of wax into each roaster. Initially, it does take a while for the wax to melt, but when it does, I put the temp control at 150 & leave it on all day, only turning it off at night. Overnight it doesn't completely solidify, so the next morning it doesn't take long to remelt the wax. I had one roaster that the thermostat went crazy on, I dumped it & bought 2 more of the same type, GE. I've been using these for 3 years without any problems at all. They were cheap, $26 at Walmart, so for my money, they are perfect.

  8. Anyone try anything from Flicker? She is having a 25% off sale and of course, that means that I need to buy something, lol. I'm thinking of getting these FOs:

    Brown Sugar & Fig

    Red Clover

    Cranberry Fig

    Red Tea

    Sahara

    Summer Garden

I love the cranberry fig, smells like a really strong med. fig to me. The red tea is nice, I smell a tad of rose in it. Summer garden surprised me, I smell strawberries. Haven't poured the Sahara or the red clover yet. The brown sugar & fig just isn't my type of fo. Another good one, but soft is the amber and musk. I wish it was a lot stronger.
