  1. So I started burning a tester last night and find that I need to wick up....do you think pouring fresh wax on top to make the candle even again will affect the test burn with a new wick? Or is it better to just remelt the candle and repour? thanks....C
  2. For those of you that make soy votives, do you top them off with a repour? leave them as is with thin top edges? or do you pour them a little short to avoid the flare at the top? Thanks! Chris
  3. I'm a fan of the CD series. I briefly tested the Ecosoya votive blend and was not happy with it. Might go back and test again....am busy with enchanted lites testing right now.
  4. Hi Krista, I'm testing enchanted lites votive and container from Waxhouse in Coldspring, about 10.5 miles west of st cloud. Otherwise I'm still playing around with KYSOY125 from Kentucky. I like the container wax but found that the votive/pillar blend has a funky smell to it. BTW, I've heard of Hutchinson but am not familiar with it at all. Nice to have you on the board! Maybe if we both find a wax we like from the same place we can order together and save on shipping! Talk to you later
  5. pictures are sometimes worth a thousand words....other times they leave you speechless....great job!
  6. Sounds like what I just bought.....from Bittercreek North.....for $29.95 plus shipping... *sigh* *faint*
  7. Guess it depends on how many you order....I've ordered my from Candlewic and 1 box was left as an unopened case and the other two were stacked with protectors.
  8. I think it serves a dual purpose...one, it covers up the typically ugly tops, and two, I've always viewed it as a mental marketing thing...soy candle with something soybean like on top.
  9. Hi Chris, Thanks for the info. I have considered using the frosted apothecaries from Fairway. I have a sample. However, they are a bit different. The ones I use are the thicker glass which I kinda like -- does not feel as fragile. Also, I am using the ones with the wooden lids. I just fell upon these jars when Candle Cocoon had them on sale when she was discontinuing them. I did not think I was going to like the wooden lids as much since I do not really have the country look. However, they have really grown on me and look so well with my logo. The wood dresses it down a bit to go with the treed logo (even though the trees are elegant) and the frosted glass ads the elegance. It is kind of a nice mix. Soooooo.....I am kind of partial to them now. Why is it that jars always have to be so far away? I do love the look of the Fairway ones too (very classy looking) but I am so attached to the wooden lid look now. I have gotten a lot of good feedback. The only thing I do not like is that I can end up with certain lids that are shipped and look kind of ruff or does not have as pretty of a finish or wood grains. This bothers me a bit. I do like the Jar Store prices, but I think they only have the clear glass apothecaries. The frosted jars always seem more expensive. TVG sends their glass in to have it treated with frost. I wonder if anyone else sells the frosted glass with the wooden lids. I get them from TVG directly. I think that Fillmore carries the wood lids but not the frosted apothecaries. They do have the frosted footed victorian jar but that would look terrible with the wooden lids. Fillmore may be just as far away anyway....can't remember now where they are at now. Thanks Chris for the response. I appreciate it. Hey Holly, as I posted The Jar Store does in fact carry the frosted 16 oz apoth for 1.39 with the glass lid included. Otherwise Fairway will sell their 16 oz for around .72 cents each without the lid if you can order the lids from somewhere else.Chris
  10. of course folks like 'em! They are getting very popular. I think $3.00 is about average for these. I'm sure others will chime in if they charge more or less.
  11. you are probably seeing soy pellets....some soy wax comes in the form of pellets instead of flakes...I've seen many candles with the pellets on top.C
  12. Hi Holly, The Jar Store in CT has 16 oz Frosted Apothecary jar for only $1.39, and that comes with the matching flat lid. Fairway in Ohio I believe has them as well for just maybe .20 more, but the shipping would be less than CT. not sure if that's the jar your using, but it is some examples of cheaper 16 oz jars. Good luck
  13. ummm, the "heat gun" looks more like a black n decker cordless drill to me
  14. it's not messy at all....the clamshell holds 2.5-3oz of wax....you fill the clamshell to the top so all 6 cavities fill as well as the remainder of the clamshell to the edge....there is no mess at all...just pour, let it cool, and shut the top when you are done! I've poured a couple to test and it couldn't be easier.
  15. Hey, stopped into Waxhouse today. The owner was very nice....has quite the setup. They not only sell the product, but his wife makes candles with it and specializes in cut n carve. I don't have any FO's from them as I just purchased tonight and I only bought wax and glass droppers. I did notice that the FO's were from Chemessence, for what that's worth. I got the Enchanted Lites votive and container wax....if I like it, and I'm sure I will, I plan on visiting them again. that's my 2 cents! HTH Chris
  16. thanks for the replies...poured 130 last night into clamshells and they look great....going to try to pour cooler in the metal tart molds. thanks again, Chris
  17. I've never tried waxhouse before, however I am going there tomorrow to pick up some wax....I'll post how the experience goes! Chris
  18. you can get the straight votive molds here.... http://www.rusticescentuals.com/images/molds/StraightVotive_e.jpg
  19. Ok have a question....I'm too perfectionistic for my own good....do your tarts have a dip in them at all...not a major dip, but a slight dip? I'm trying to get a formula for a perfetly smooth top and it's not happening...just wondering if I'm being too anal about this. Secondly, on clamshells, do you pour to the top of the dividers, or all the way to the top of the clamshell? Thanks! Chris
  20. wow, wish I had your luck...mine don't stick, they pop out quickly which made me think they were cooling too fast....thus the styrofoam to slooowwww down the cooling. Still didn't help...oh well
  21. So I found this wax that I forgot I had....read up on it as I was testing....boy did I make a mistake. I've read thread after thread of difficulties and suggested solutions. I've poured anywhere between 120-170, cooled in styrofoam, added PS, added 10-30 115 soy, nothing helps! The tarts come out cool but the votives crack no matter what. The votives are also loaded with air pockets. Unless anyone has found success I'm thinking of hanging up votives with it and using it up in tarts. C :undecided
  22. I'm testing KY125 soy and am liking it so far. BTW, where are you in MN? I'm a little west of maple grove Chris
  23. I'm glad you brought this up...I've been contemplating adding a line of unscented candles....I personally after working with all of the FO's and with the allergies I have like to sometimes burn an unscented candle..... Chris
