  1. I can try more stearic....I used much less than the recommended amount and it messed with the mottling. I'm using strawberry...not the fresh strawberry. The regular strawberry is stronger and smells great in the tarts. I'll try more stearic and inform. However the questions still remains as to what is acceptable for what I have made already? Chris
  2. I used 4045H from candlewic. FO was strawberry. It's strong in my tarts with a different wax, but I can't get the mottling blend to hold much. It is rated for 5%, more with stearic. It bleeds at 5%.
  3. Ok, so I have some mottled strawberry votives. The scent is weak due to bleeding at even medium percentages of FO....weak as in barely smell it when melting nose hairs. Their saving grace is the way they look. Would you sell it with maybe a name like "strawberry mist" or "hints of strawberry" and sell them cheaper? Give them away? or what? I'm torn. Thanks, Chris
  4. Thanks for the help Top....it seem like you are the go to guy on a lot of stuff! I tried the 125 with 12.5% palm stearic and got a decent looking top. but after burning however, the top seemed to grow a bit. I'm thinking of upping the percentage of stearic, trying it with beeswax, and in the end if it doesn't work I guess mix it with parrafin. otherwise, what am I going to do with 50lbs of 120 and 50lbs of 125?
  5. Ok, how long did it take you to figure out a particular candle? (wax, FO, wick, etc). How long until you had it figured out and was happy? Not having the best of luck here....
  6. Thanks Henry, that helped. I had no idea what I was getting into when I first thought "hmmm, candlemaking would be fun!" Chris
  7. Ok, so I'm using a wax that is blended for mottling. This may sound dumb, but does mottling wax mottle better with FO added than without? So much to learn, so little time Thanks, Chris
  8. The first batch I made was without. Not good scent throw. The data sheet from candlewic says you can add up to 4% stearic to hold more scent without affecting the mottling. ???
  9. I have an unopened box of CBL141. We'll see how many years it takes until I get that one opened!
  10. You're going to be sorry that I found this site! I will question your pants off. Ok, so I used a mottling wax 4045H from candlewic. With no additives it mottled great, however not much scent retention or throw. It said I could add up to 4% stearic. So I made my votives with the recommended amounts of uv and stearic. The tops from the repour mottled decently, however the first pour barely barely mottled at all. I used 6% fragrance, strawberry. Candles looked wet, but werent. I'm thinking the FO amount was ok. I'm guessing I should cut back on the stearic? I'm thanking you all in advance for your patience now that I've joined the network! LOL Chris
  11. Thanks everybody. I'm guessing I just have a lot of learning to do. It is quite frustrating. Not much of anything has turned out yet. So, I keep trying different things. I figure I'll figure it out before I die...that is if I live another 100 years. Marilyn, I don't get frosting on the bottom of my jars, I get it on the top edges! Thanks again, Chris
  12. They have soy pillar wax? I've been all over their website and have never seen that!
  13. Ok, I've seen a couple of different ways of measuring out the fragrances and I would like to know what is the best/correct way. 1 ounce fragrance to 1 pound wax 1. weight the fragrance out to 1 ounce 2. measure the fragrance out to 1 fluid ounce which is correct? Thanks, Chris
  14. So I'm a little worried that I've seen maybe 1 or 2 people that use soy120 or soy125 from Candlewic. Is there a reason that nobody uses them? I'm fairly new to candlemaking, however I've purchased quite a bit of wax from them. Shoot, I've purchased quite a bit of everything from them. What am I missing that you all purchase from every place but them? Thanks, Chris
  15. It's funny that I should come across your posting. I just received a 50 lb box of Candlewic's Soy125 yesterday! Thanks to your post I have some new info to go off of. Thanks!
  16. Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the form and am looking forward to "working" with all of you. There seems to be a wealth of information amongst the members. I do have a question for you. I too have been thinking about doing a craft show as soon as I have the formulas figured out for the fragrances and wicks that I have. (I'm fairly new to candles as well) My question is this, how much product would you say that I would need for a craft show. I plan on having between 5 and 10 fragrances in tealights, votives, container tins, misc glass containers for select fragrances and tarts. How much should I plan on making? Thank you so much for the help and guidance. Take care, Chris
