  1. Thanks for sharing that, I've got a sample of it to try out but haven't done it yet. It smells great OOB though! I'll have to get it into wax soon and see for myself.
  2. So with the sale this weekend I'm checking out a few new scents from Solas. Anyone tried this in a candle yet? It sounds like something I'd love but I would like opinions before I order!
  3. Thank you so much for the suggestions! Waxhouse says it's in Cold Spring, which is only about forty-five minutes from me. I hesitate to change the wax I use since I'm set in my ways, but maybe when I'm up in St. Cloud next I'll head over and pick some of their straight paraffin for containers and give it a try. I would LOVE it if Solas started carrying wax! I love their FO's so if I could get wax there too I'd be a happy girl.
  4. Thanks...darn, looks like I'm out of luck! I'll have to stick with BCN.
  5. Anyone familiar with a wax supplier in the Twin Cities or metro area? I've been ordering wax from BCN but would love to not have to pay so much in shipping costs now that I'm ready to move ahead and will be needing larger quantities. For reference, Solas is fairly close to me but not an option for wax (as far as I know). Thanks!
  6. I've been making container candles for awhile and they sell very well at the gift shop, so now I feel comfortable with that and I'd like to move into some votives and tealights and some different container candles. So I have a couple of questions: 1. Wax for votives - what are the favorites, easiest to work with? and 2. Wicking tealights - what do you use? and 3. Layering container candles - how do you do this? I'm thinking I can't let the layers completely cool between layers (or can I?) and how do you pour the next layer if the jar is not heated? Do you heat it again or do you have to pour before it cools? Help! Any tips would be appreciated VERY much! Thank you!
  7. Chris, I'm about an hour and a half west of the cities. Sort of in the Hutchinson area, if you're familiar with that town. Where do you get your wax? As far as I can tell, only Solas is around here. I love getting FO's from them, but I'm getting wax from BCN. At least it comes quickly. Thanks for all the responses! Since I typically get wax from BCN, next time I order I'll add in some ez from there and start trying it out!
  8. I've been making container candles using J223 for awhile now, but I've been getting requests for soy and want to start experimenting after the holidays. What's a good wax to start with? Ez and joy stand out to me, because I typically buy from BCN and NG, but I really don't know anything about soy! Any wax recommendations for me? Thank you!
  9. I just found out that the last of my NG Home Sweet Home jars sold out at the gift shop this morning. This is my first year making candles, so does that FO sell year round or just during this season for you? I don't know if I should order more HSH FO to start getting more ready. The scent has sold well for me during October and November but I don't want to waste time on it if it won't sell after Christmas.
  10. Energy is definitely on my list too. Vanilla Plum is really good, for those who haven't tried it. Thinking of trying out White Tea & Ginger and maybe Moonlight Path, but I need to look over the list for awhile before I decide what else I need (ok, want)!
  11. Does anyone prefer one over the other? I had a sample of cobbler and poured it. I hated it OOB but liked it after it cured for awhile, and when I got around to burning my tester it was wonderful. It grew on me! Just wondering if the muffin is better, since it's on their best seller list and the cobbler is not. Otherwise I'll order more cobbler today.
  12. I noticed that LS has VS Pure Seduction. If anyone has tried it (from LS or somewhere else) in candles, how was it? I love that spray & lotion scent from VS and wonder if it will work out in a candle.
  13. Hello! I'm fairly new to making candles and to the board. Lots of experimenting right now. I'm definitely planning to order Brown Sugar & Fig from Solas. Also thinking about Vanilla Plum, Lime Basil & Mandarin, Lavender Cucumber & Sage, Grape and Orange Blossom. Anyone have opinions on these? Thank you!
