  1. I have no clue what it smells like but a few friends of mine that help me test out my candles said they have heard of it before and think I should get it and that it would go well with my fragrance line. I tried to look it up on the internet but haven't come up with anything. Thanks, Mindy
  2. My Bf cousin used to make and sell candles, I asked her about joy wax and pillars and she said she used to make hers out of it and they came out perfect. Maybe thats why she doesn't sell candles anymore. I have even tried soy wax one to make pillars and they still split down the sides. See I knew I should of asked her first, she acts like she knows everything, ha now I can tell her that she was wrong. Thanks Mindy
  3. Ok for a month now I have been trying to make a pillar candle that doesn't split on the sides with wax going everywhere when burnt. I'm not giving up but the money is funny right now and I have to deal with what I got. I'm using Joy Wax its part soy and part pariffin, I have used these wicks to try it out, CD-10, Yaley 9" Prewaxed Medium Bleach Wick and my last resort was what I had on hand hemp wicks. I'm using the basic pillar and square pillar molds from Joann Fabrics. Sorry I don't own a camera or I would put a picture of the mess up on here. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Mindy
  4. I say 2 weeks, now I never had a fundraiser but my sons daycare had a HGP candle fundraiser and it lasted for 3 weeks, and us parents totally forgot about it and had to fork over money last min. to order some candles. I sell for a direct selling company and they tell us to have a fundraiser last for 2 weeks so people wont forget about it. Hope that helps, Mindy
  5. Natures garden candles carries the Eucalyptus that smells like vicks. Mindy
  6. I'm going to be making air freshners, this will be my first batch, I'm also going to be testing some pillars, and I just recieved some new fragrances that I'm going to try out on some tarts. Mindy
  7. My business name is Hillbilly Candles, so I thought having the Kerr jars were perfect for me but so does all the competition around here, they also use mason and jelly jars. I guess I could be creative, I was looking on the internet and found the perfect jars and they are pretty decent priced. I can't decide which ones the bean pot jars or the honey pot jars they look the same but one is more round than the other one. And they only come in 5 oz, 9 oz, and 15 oz sizes. I also found perfect sample size tins they are 1/4 oz and they are pretty cheap 300/$105. Mindy :smiley2:
  8. Laveder and Fresh Linen, I really got sick and light headed when I made these, and of course all my friends and family love these scents. Mindy :smiley2:
  9. Thanks, I'm not really selling them yet, still in the testing faze, but totally understand what you guys are saying. Hmmmm now I'll be on the look out for some nice looking different jars. I liked the honey pot looking jars but now can't find the site, I think it would go great with my name. Thanks again you guys are great, Mindy :smiley2:
  10. Does it really matter what kind of containers you use, like I like Kerr jars would those sell as well as the apocathary(?) jars? I thought the cheaper the jar, the less your candles would costs, and hopefully the more you would sell am I right or wrong?? Mindy :smiley2:
  11. Mia Bella, was the lady a rep or was she the owner that actually makes the candles?? I was letting my mom test my candles at her office and a rep that also works for my mom came in and told her that her candles are better. I confronted her, she told me that I'll never make a penny selling because hers are better, I asked her if she ever made a candle in her life, she said no, I just laughed in her face and walked away. I hope you do better next time, Christmas is comming maybe have some specials if you can. Mindy :smiley2:
  12. A few friends want creme brule scented candles, so I'll be making them and going to try to make a pillar that doesn't sink in after 30 min. of burning it. Mindy
  13. I know on your post you said you wanted to make something and sell it, candle making can be really addicting, its time consuming and expensive. I don't want to say its not for you, but maybe its not for you right now. You could join a candle company, some are free if you look around and some also don't care how you advertise like selling on ebay. You could also look up mymommybiz.com, they have tons of work at home ideas that you could apply yourself to. Mindy
  14. I was curious, I should look huh, confettie soap sounds cool. Mindy
  15. Thanks, see you can tell that this is all new to me, you guys are the BEST Thanks again, Mindy
  16. My friend wants to start making soap just for her and her daughter and she and I want to know how to make soap confettie. Thanks in advance, Mindy:D
  17. Ok i hope i posted this in the right place, There were these kids at the mall selling candles and air freshners for a fundraiser and they had these gel type air freshners that smelled awesome and looked cute. Sorry I would post a picture but I don't have a camera. They aren't your regular jelly jar air freshners they are apple shaped look like rubber type of thing, the only thing i can think of is they were made out of gel, the people that made them are backntyme.net. Thanks, Mindy
  18. It could of been that your room is to cold, I had my air conditioner on during the summer and my tarts were half melted to, so i turned off the air conditioner and the tarts melted. But then again it could of been the tart melter to, I would return it, and try another tart melter to see if it works better. Mindy
  19. I really just wanted to figure out what other candles i should start making, I made another pillar candle and it looks like poo, I have no clue how you guys can do the tilted pillar, I can barely make a solid color pillar. What have been your customers favorite candles, like the style, bakery kind that look like food, votives, layered candles, jar candles, etc... Sorry i'm being so nosey, but i am very pleased with my jar candles and am ready to move onto something else, my friends want me to try the dipped bears but i want to make candles not the bears although i might someday but not now, I want to be challanged. I see so many candles that are so beautiful and want to try them so bad but not sure which one i should try first, so i plunged into pillar candles. Thanks to everybody that has replied, Mindy
  20. keep me up to date, I hope you the best of luck Mindy
  21. WOW, how do decide which one to pick they all look beautiful. Mindy
  22. How many different types of candles would you take, I know that some people only sell 1 or 2 kinds of candles but what if you wanted to take like a variety, like how much is to much. Example: Tarts, votives, pillars, jar candles Am i making any scents I haven't been to a craft fair that had candles there, so i really don't know how you would go about it. And also how many fragrances would you take all, some or a few. I was hoping that maybe next summer that i might go to 1 or 2 but want to be prepared and organized. Thanks in advance, Mindy
  23. I am sooo excited, my pillar candle came out looking sooooo nice, the candle itself looks really nice, better than i thought it would. My friend wants purple, black, and orange pillars in different sizes to decorate her house in. Halloween Colors, I thought that was a neat idea, But i told her let me see if i can do it first and test before i just give her some. I also made a few layered jar candles that a customer wanted, she wanted a jar candle that looked christmasy(?) but didn't have a christmas scent, so she picked 3 of her favorite scents, Apple Pie, Best Friends, and Banana Kiwi and asked them to be colored red, green and white. They turned out really nice, now i have to test them. I am having soooo much fun, doing this. Sorry i keep repeating myself, I had to try to make a pillar, everybody elses pillars on here look really nice and i wanted to try one so bad. Mindy
  24. Thanks for sharing your storey, I needed a good laugh. Thank goodness my cats are outside. I have 2 black cats, little bear and baby bear, I have broken a few glass candles because of them, trying to walk to my car and they are walking in front and in back of me, i trip and the glass jars break. They also jump on the hood of my car when i pull into my drive way, and pat on the window, meowing. I have a simese cat, she is sooo old, and the most cuddlest cat in the world, loves to sleep on your neck. Mindy
  25. Thats great, better than what i did, last weekend we had a garage sell and i only sold 2 candles. Congrats, I hope you and your daughter the best, Mindy :smiley2:
