  1. I think it holds just as much as the roaster ...I think they are both 28qt. The biggest difference is this has a spigot and melts in a fraction of the time a roaster does.
  2. Happy Holidays is a great seller for me.
  3. I have used PEAK Gingerbread Cookies and it was good. But I love Tristates Gingerbread....strong !!!!
  4. Girl thiat thing is the bomb!!!!!!! You will wonder how you ever made candles in volume before you got it. I bought mine 3 seasons ago and I went out and bought another one just to have a spare because I would be lost without it! Let us know whacha think.
  5. I do HUGE FundRaisers every yr and I dont send out samples. I do a scent description on the order form....and I do take 1 of each scent to the school so that if anyone is interested they can come in there and sniff or I let them know that they can always go to my Wholesale dealer in town and sniff the scents. Easier on me AND it boosts my Wholsalers sales!
  6. I am sorry but I have not found a rude reply in this thread. Like Deb stated HARSH is not RUDE. If you do not want the harsh reality then dont ask. Especially when you come on and ask our opinions on starting a business that most of us has worked on for yrs. Yes, this is a learning community, however, some do not want to learn or even try...they want everything handed to them. I do not mind helping but I am not going to hand over all of my hard work just to make a newbies life easier. It is called trial and error. What works for me...may not work for you. We cannot tell someone what wax, scent or supplier to use....you have to figure that out on your own. I love Tristate oils...some people here dont. Just like a lot of people here swear by Just Scent....I wont touch those FO's with a ten foot pole! We can make suggestions...state what works for us...but the cold hard fact are...you have to learn on your own! If a new crafter come on with a question because they have tried and tried but just cant get it right...I will be the first to jump in and try to help. But just because you made one batch of candles out of a 10lb slab of unknown wax does not make you a Chandler. Hell, I have been doing this for several yrs now and still do not consider myself a Chandler. BTW...I did offer some suggestions to her on the type of wax she had picked. It didnt work for me...but others here make great candles from it.
  7. Most "crafters" policies will cover both...differs from Company to Company. You usually have to list each specific type of craft that you make. I know of some companies that will cover Candles but not B&B. Some will cover B&B but not made from scratch..just bases. Just check with your company to make sure.
  8. Kimberly-Thanks for the information. I can most certainly appreciate the time and effort put into making a product. I am pretty used to reactions like this on other forums with newbies to the site. Again, I am not completely a novice to this, just in need of refreshing. I will be doing melts as tart is a trademark of YC. But I plan to call them something else. Insurance is taken care of but thanks for the concern. Insurance is already taken care of? I would make certain of that. Some companies may cover B&B but not candles. If you have liability for your Salon...That is a whole other animal than a Crafters Policy. As you can tell, I am a little passionate about this subject since I am an Insurance Agent.
  9. I can tell you right now that you will be critisized harshly here on this site for making and selling candles without testing and research. First, please understand that most of us tested and researched for months and months before sending a finished product out to the public.....and spent a ton of money doing it. You will get all different opinions on what is the best wax to use and the best supplier to get it from. I have tried 4627 and found it way too difficult to work with. I had to use several different wick sizes ...one size wick may work with a certain scent...but not another. But that was just my experience with it. And this was 5 yrs ago. Until you get everything down pat I wouldnt sell to the public as you are opening yourself up to a lawsuit. Or maybe start with the tarts. They are flameless. Yes you have to find the right wax for you but you also need to find the right oils, wicks, colors, jars, labels, warning labels, melting device and INSURANCE. Good luck to you.
  10. I live in the Wine Country of NY. My customers eat these up!!! *Cabernet...Tristate ot BCN *Merlot...Greenleaf *White Zifindel..NG *Grape...Tristate or BCN *Sangria Cobbler...TCS
  11. EXCEPT FO's from Just Scent! I currently have a shop that sells the Xmas scents well...I cant keep it stocked in Nov and Dec. I think it is because she comes up with locally themed names. The shop owner has come up with a new name and wants a new Xmas scent to introduce. What has been tried and true for you guys? Currently I use: Happy Hollidays (BCN) Sugarplum Berries (Peak) Spicy Orange Gumdrop (Tristate) A cinamon peppermint blend of my own Pine (Peak) and the usual Gingerbread, Sugar Cookie, Bayberry. Any Suggestions? I would like to keep it within TCS, Tristate, Peak, BCN....but open to anything other than Just Scent. THANKS!!!
  12. This Old House!!! This scent rocks! One of my top sellers. Have also had good luck with Spicy apples and peaches Chestnuts and Brown Sugar Sangria Cobbler
  13. I think you need to realize it is FLAVOR oil not fragrance oil. Some of my Lip Balms you can smell ..like the peppermint EO...but the ones to where I use Flavor oil, not so much. To me, people want taste on their lips not scent.
  14. Anyone know of a kickin dupe for Yankee Candle Holly Berry???? THANKS!!
  15. My top seller is Creme Brulee from Tristate. mystical_angel says it throws like crazy in soy.
  16. There are tablets you can get...you mix with water and dip your containers in it...almost like a bar does to their glasses.
  17. I cant imagine a Pressure cooker would be easier than it already is to make lotion. I just use my Kitchen Aide Stick Blender and I make 5lbs at a time...easy peasy. But if ya try it...let us know how it goes!
  18. I live in the Southern Tier of NY which is MAJOR wine country. You cant swing a dead cat without hitting a winery on one of the Finger Lakes. I use: Cabernet (tristate or BCN) Merlot ( TCS) WHite Ziffandel (NG) Sangria Cobbler (TCS) Grape (Muscadine) (Tristate) During the summer and Xmas season these fly off the shelf. At Xmas I rename to Christmas Cabernet.
  19. I have to say that I used JS oils for a little bit. It isnt that the oils didnt throw...they just didnt throw well. I have horrible candle nose and cant tell the difference sometimes, so I give new scents to testers. My testers said they werent as strong as my regular oils but I went ahead and used some of them since I had already shelled out good money. MY CUSTOMERS let me know real quick that the scent was not as strong in my candles. I sold all of the unused oils and have never looked back. I am not going to go into my run in with this supplier. I am glad these oils work for you. You are telling people to check them out...I think people also need to know that JS oils do not work for everyone.
  20. Yes I am talking about Aloe Juice. I use Aloe juice in all my lotions instead of the water. Never seen Aloe Oil.
  21. Congrats! I say deal with it as it comes. I keep very little stock on my shelves now except for the top sellers. You already have a little stock made up...draw from that to fill the first orders...then fill the others as they come. Good Luck!
  22. Kangaroo Blue is close to you. I buy my butters from oilsbynature.com If you are wanting Aloe Juice...it is cheaper at Walmart than at most health food stores.
  23. This is great! To me, this is what it is all about...taking a basic recipe and then tweaking it to make it your own! I did make up a batch for my Godson and his father for their Psoriasis and they swear by it. Just a FYI...my origional recipe is awesome for Sunburns. My GodSon is VERY fair skinned and he loads up with my shea for the summer months. He is now in the Army Reserves and his whole barracks uses it now...lol HAVE FUN!!!!!
  24. Some people melt the shea...some people dont. I DO because I think it takes out the "graininess". WHen I didnt melt the butters, the end product came out really grainy. As far as the Shea goes... I prefer refined shea because I can not stand the smell of unrefined shea...but that is just my preference.
