  1. I'll admit that sometimes the handmake soap that gets made and posted can look ..... um, interesting..... but I have really come to appreciate the beauty in natural soap. I know I'll never go back to Dove or Ivory or even shower gels (which I was using -- no edges there!) ever again. Someone said it earlier -- if you don't believe in your product -- the value, the appearance, then no one else will. I don't do soap (candles only right now) but the concept of thinking outside your comfort zone is the same with soap. I really don't lie bakery scents -- they make my stomach turn and I don't know why people want them -- but I know that they do so I make them and pretend to like it! If I'm not enthusiatic about it then they aren't either. JMO
  2. The fill line on a turkey fryer is so low to accomodate... the turkey Many a people have filled their fryers too full, put the turkey in and caused the oil to overflow and that causes big fire, big mess. My hubby just got me one of these!!! (same model, I bet -- on sale at BBB) I have yet to try it out but I am so excited!!!!
  3. Thanks much, all! I actually really like this technique and effect, so expect to see more of this from me Also, my hubby got me a Masterbuilt Turkey Fryer (he's such a sweetie -- saw it on sale and bought it) so I am now prime time and ready to rock! Woohoo!!!!
  4. You guys (or gals in this case) totally rock! I knew I'd get some good answers / advice from you Thanks so much for the recipes and the other thread... this is exactly what I wanted / needed in terms of suggestions, what has worked for other people and product recommendations!
  5. blazerina - thanks so much for the reply! I will be PM'ing you as soon as I post this - because I do want to know more!!!! I'm very interested in the EO possibilities -- but I've used tea tree oil in the past (with no scrubbies ) and it hasn't helped. That's the part that frustrates me. I don't use a washcloth (fingers are my friend - LOL!) and I stopped using apricot scrubs and the like years ago once I learned that they just aggravate things. Anyone else out there as frustrated as me (and now you)?!? (I feel so alone... )
  6. I generally hover somewhere around 7% -- I add 1 oz FO to 14 oz of wax, so a little more than 1oz/pp -- that seems to work pretty well and it makes my numbers easy . I haven't really had wicking problems from too much FO. I do have one scent that is just subtle and I'm not willing to add any more FO to it (I'm also not going to reorder it once it's all gone!) SG
  7. Awesome colors! Especially on the second one... red, black, yuuummmmm -- my kind of soap! What does that smell like??
  8. I tried my swirlies again with Coconut Lime Verbena. Lesson to me this time was that I let the white wax set up a little too much before pouring the green for both the tins and the smaller frosted containers -- there would have been a little more depth and mixing if I had poured sooner. The 10 oz apothecary jar is a tester -- I usually single wick those with an ECO-14, but I've been reconsidering if I'm happy with the size flame I get, so this one is double wicked with two CD-5's. (that's also why the jar isn't cleaned up - as I've said before, I'm a very sloppy when I pour, so this swirling thing may work out well! LOL!) Man this stuff is strong.... :rolleyes2
  9. Yep I've hit google... and boy does that get confusing :rolleyes2 Everything that is "supposed" to work doesn't really... which leaves me to explore the stuff that shouldn't work. In general I don't use facial scrubs for the very reason you stated -- that tends to aggravate sensitive skin. But I still have to get rid of the (very stubborn) dead skin on my face. Sigh..... and I'm soooo tired of OTC treatments and chemicals. I'd really like to go au natural and see what my skin is really like under all that. I haven't yet found a good natural product system (I say tnatural knowing some people will cringe) -- I think because those aren't readily accepted. Every place I've hit so far wants to sell a kit or medications and that's not what I'm looking for.....
  10. Hi everyone! I'm hoping that you B&B smart people can help me out. I'm looking for a very gentle facial scrub / exfoliator that is suitable for sensitive (aka tempermental) skin. Either a recipe or a finished product would be very much appreciated. Here's the story.... I have the above-mentioned tempermental skin. It SUCKS! I may have left me teenage year behind, but the skin came with me. I have naturally oily skin that clogs if you so much as look at it wrong and nothing that I have tried is the complete solution! The closest that I have come so far is thecandlespastore's wonderful black soap -- it at least doesn't make it worse and it feels better.... so I'm on a mission to try and convert my facial products to handmade for awhile and see if that helps. I have this notion that maybe handmade products might not have as much "stuff" (extra stuff) in them, hence reduce the likelihood of my face reacting badly. I have tried the stuff that really dries out my face (no pimples possible when your face is the Sahara) but then it flakes and peels and leads to clogging anyways. I've tried every type of moisturizer I could find (within reason) and all I get is an oil slick. PLEASE HELP ME find something better! Now that I think I have a good cleanser I need an exfoliant or else my pores will clog right back up again! :rolleyes2 I've been searching around a little and will continue to do so, but I'm desperate so I'm asking for help also. Any suggestions on products, recipes, or ingrediants to avoid would be awesome! I've already been converted over to CP soaps and the wonderful body butters that you do, so now I'm really hoping someone has another magic bullet they can share with me. (and just as a warning -- the companion question is suggestions for good moisturizers as well -- one light and one heavier -- I can't use just one living in Colorado) Thanks so much in advance! SG
  11. It is not straight paraffin. It already has some additives, like vybar, universal additive, stearic acid, etc.... I'm not sure of the exact make up or percentages. It's been "pretreated" in a way to make it more suitable as a creamy, one pour container wax. HTH
  12. While it's true you will probably never get a true rustic from soy... you can get some rather interesting texturing with soy pillars. I personally liked the frosting that my parasoy pillars developed.... and if you pour them really cool and really slow, you can get jump lines that go all the way up the pillar -- doesn't sound like a good thing, but I thought it was pretty neat over the whole candle. I'll see if I've got any old ones around.... I'll post a picture if I find a good one.
  13. MMS has brushes on sale / clearance.... Badger hair ones... just saw them last night as I was browsing (okay, dreaming about buying supplies! lol)
  14. My hubby said it looks like cappucino! Yum, yum, I want some! lol
  15. Apple Jack and Peel is yummy! Sweet and spicy apples
  16. Try zincs - they have always worked for me in tealights.
  17. I agree w/2oz. I want to test out multiple containers / wicks in one round. I use 1oz FO for 15 oz finished candle wax and that just isn't enough for me!
  18. Porn, porn! I like me some soap porn! LOL! Those look awesome! At this point my soap addiction has nothing to do with need and all about the want...... GG you are NOT helping this situation!!
  19. Yes, preheating the jars will help -- so will tapping the jar after pouring -- reduces those air bubbles.
  20. Last time this question came up somebody answered with votive molds! I saw that and have been using my (otherwise useless) votive molds ever since. Of course I can really only measure out about 1.75 oz at a time but then again I don't make huge batches like some of you.
  21. I like them too! The layers look really neat... what's your setup look like to do those? (if you don't mind me asking)
  22. In my experience, the smaller diameter the container the worse the problem is. I've just started pouring shallow tins about a month ago and they never have that problem... they have a much wider "mouth."
