ksranch
Okay, I am not overly experienced with silicone molds. Most I use are for just little fruits or basically flat stuff. I found one of a little santa that would about votive size (2.76 oz) Question though - can I poke a hole in the bottom (top) to thread a wick through? as in so it would work like a pillar mold... otherwise I probably won't get it.. no way to wick. Has anyone done this before? (sorry if it's a stupid question.. trying to get outside of my box..)
TallTayl
I do it all the time with no issues (I make quite a few of my own molds). Just make the hole as small as possible. If the hole gets too large over time, you can usually 'heal' it with RTV silicone.
ksranch
That's Great news - thanks so much TallTayl.... off to order!!
FaithfulScenter
I've never made my own mold, but I do own votive molds that have a wick hole in them. It's a very small hole, and fits around the wick snuggly. I've used them several time and never had a problem!!
JanetsCandles
We actually made a "needle" that works to thread the molds. Some of our molds are super long, so we can't reach by normal means. But yes, you can, and yes it works fine. They will get bigger over time (talking a few hundred uses) but you can either do the RTV route, or use duct tape over the top of it. ChrisR
I use this wicking needle to wick my silicone taper & pillar molds.
