  1. You can get a really big roll of wax paper or freezer paper or even parchment paper (I might suggest using that, especially if you're planning to gel or hp your soap... it won't leach any wax into the soap if you're using a hot recipe) at places like sam's club or costco for fairly cheap. I make a lot of my own molds, so I might have to try this one. It also gives me ideas for doing a vertical rectangle mold, too.
  2. I haven't exactly moved on, but I'm not able to be on as frequently. Health issues for myself and some very stressful situations in the family have made me put a lot of things on the back burner. I'm a bit worried with how the season is going to go because of it.
  3. Do any of the rest of you guys order from French Color and Fragrance? I got a letter from them saying that they are going to $400 minimums as of Sept 1, 2013. I have a specially formulated red colorant from them, but don't generally get any other of their fragrances or colors as a general rule (I really don't need the minimum amounts they sell).
  4. Fresh Bamboo is awesome. I also love "Shave and a Haircut." I was one of the testers for that one, and it was beautiful in both CP and M&P soap.
  5. We have to make our own molds for the extra long tapers. My vat isn't deep enough to dip anything more than a 12" taper. You might check with a company called Smooth-on. Some of the distributors will make the molds for you, and the company isn't far from where you are, either. So you may have to wait for a little bit of time to get the molds, and they will be either silicone or polyurethane, but it can be done.
  6. I have, and did when I first started with candles. You can actually whip pillar waxes, so you don't have to go after the Creme wax. I believe places like Peak carry "Sample" sizes, which are about 2 lbs. I think some of the other online stores may, as well. Or you could set aside a bit from your blocks, even. As for the retail shops, you are going to pay a LOT more than if you work with some of the suppliers. But you can get some of the better kinds at the retail shops, too. Just not as many options.
  7. I blend Peak's Sweet Pumpkin Spice in with a couple other FOs. I have a couple bars left, but it was awesome in soap like that. It will trace super fast straight, though.
  8. I'm having better luck lately with spraying it with rubbing alcohol before putting the mold to bed. It was a suggestion over on BrambleBerry, so tried it on the last half dozen batches. No ash so far, and that was with a couple recipes that did it bad in the past.
  9. I've taken Peak's to 6%, and haven't had trouble with MOST fragrances, but a few will end up sweating. I haven't taken it to 12% ever, and honestly don't plan to. I would contact filmore and ask if it is the same as the IGI feather palm wax. If it is, it should be the same wax. (Please, guys, correct me if I'm wrong on that... I'm fairly sure that's where Peak's comes from but may be mistaken.)
  10. I had some of Peak's FBC, and loved it OOB, but once it got hot, uck!
  11. That is exactly what I was looking for. I'd forgotten about it being on Soap Queen. Thanks a bunch!
  12. Anyone know of where to find a soap safe paint that comes in white and black colors? I know Milky Way Molds carries primary colors, but I have dire need of making eyeballs on a soap. The area is far too thin to keep the color if I dab it into the mold before pouring the outer color. Any ideas on a substitute for it, if there just isn't any black or white paint?
  13. I second that about using hot wax. However, as a suggestion, why not go with the granulated colored wax for it? It has the consistency of sand, but you are making a candle instead. If you wanted, you could find a candle maker that is familiar with the kind of wax you would be using so you could get the correct wick/jar combination.
  14. Shrink wrap here, too. Bags just didn't look right to me. I put the label on the shrink wrap.
  15. Nope. Those are way too skinny for it. I'll be putting in a 3" round (plus adornment) pillar.
  16. Okay, guys. I'm coming up with a bit of an issue. We're getting ready to promote a line of unity candles with tapers. I am using my floral designs in some of them, so needing to find a good box for it. I am thinking of using something similar to either a wedding bouquet box or a wine box, but would prefer a clear box, or at least a clear panel. I have to have a minimum of 4 inches square and 10 inches long. Anyone have any suggestions? I'd rather not have to purchase 100 of these things. I checked with Nashville Wraps, they don't have anything that will fit. So, I turn to you guys to see if maybe anyone has seen something that I could use.
  17. http://www.brambleberry.com/Fired-Up-Fuchsia-Colorant-P4967.aspx This one is awesome for a hot pink. They also have a few other neon type colors that I absolutely love.
  18. I know that a couple members have suggested them to me in the past. Think TallTayl was one that did when I was looking for bayberry wax. I trust her, and from what we'd discussed, seems that they are a good group to work with, if that helps any. I don't know about minimums or anything else, though, sorry.
  19. I haven't tried TKB yet, but I get a lot of my micas for CP from BrambleBerry. I have used WSP in the past for some, but I dislike that they have notes that are NOT accurate about what morphs in CP soap. Not exactly something you want to find out in the middle of soaping something that you want accurate colors on. Ugh. Candybee, I might have some extras I could send you a bit to try from them, if you wanted.
  20. I've got some aprons from Sam's Club that I use when I'm going to get really messy. 3 pack was fairly cheap and they are BIG. http://www.samsclub.com/sams/pocket-apron-3-pk-assorted/prod7530132.ip?navAction= I'm sure places like Costco have them as well.
  21. Two thoughts: Check what Lonestar will run you with shipping. They sell the jars without the lids included, but have the jars there. But they also have the lids, and you can get the lids by themselves if you really want them. So if you got them through dollar tree but wanted the jars, you could purchase the lids only there. Also, Candlewic carries the jars with lids for 17.55 per dozen. Again, check the shipping costs, but 99% sure it's more than what you'd pay through Lonestar.
