AlwaysWondering
I don't want a lip gloss, want to be able to use it in a twist up lip balm tube. Is there a butter or oil that will give it more of a glossy look or some other ingredient?
TallTayl
Castor oil adds shine IME.

AlwaysWondering
Grrrr. Added castor oil, 2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoon) to 60 ml (2 oz) of base. Shine is better but now it feels greasy, like Vaseline. Add beeswax?

Add beeswax?I'd say just cut back on the castor till it feels good.BTW: are you already using some BW?
AlwaysWondering
No, I'm not using any beeswax.
Pam W
Just oils & butters?? I'd think that would be pretty soft unless you're using a hard butter - but, yes you can add some BW or Candellila wax. I prefer Candellila and adjust it for seasonal use -- little more in the summer & less in the winter.
AlwaysWondering
Sorry, I thought you mean am I adding beeswax. The base I use has beeswax in it but I have not added any extra.
MarieJeanette
I've found that candelilla wax (as well as carnauba wax) add a wonderful glossy shine. I make a special lip balm for just the ladies with 19% candelilla (no beeswax at all) that glides on super smooth and shiney. chemistryman
Beeswax, and if you want to go advanced, a little Glossamer L-6600. Add some lanolin.
