Walnut shell powder?

For those of you who add walnut shell powder to your m & p soap (I've never even heard of it before today) is it better to use the fine or medium grade powder? Is there much of a difference? How much do you add per pound?

Hi-,I would add a small amount of the walnut shell powder to the soap, lets say 1 tsp per pound because its does become scratchy as the soap is used ..I use the fine grade powder..it makes a great exfoliating soap, just make sure to blend in as the soap cools a little, when it thickens a little so that it disperses evenly-unless you are using a suspension base , otherwise it will sink to the bottom of molds, but that looks nice too, you can have one side exfoliating and one side plain soap..

Thanks Blanca. Do you have any problems with it clumping since it is so fine or does it disperse fairly easily with say, a stick blender?

I usually mix it seperately with a bit of the melted soap , then add it and mix well it disperses easier that way and doesnt clump

I use a little frother to mix stuff into M&P.

What does the walnut shell powder do for your skin or is it only for exfoliation? Is it a soft exfoliation or gritty type? I have some customers that love a strong scrubb.

It is for exfoliation. I find the walnut very scrubby, I prefer sugar.
