julieg
I did my first batch of tarts with ecosoya pillar wax and they did not turn out, and I could use some help. They looked good, but when melting they had a very very faint smell. Could someone tell me what temperature I should be melting, adding fragrance and pouring? And how much fragrance should I be using. The directions I was following called for 1 - 1.5 oz per 16 oz of liquid wax. Any tips and help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. ksranch
What kind of wax are you using?
ksranch
What kind of wax are you using? Sorry, I see it now - so I can't answer the question - I use pariffin. ;0)
lilcountrymama
How long did they cure before you melted the tarts, what temp did you add the fo, did you stir thoroughly Edited September 28, 2011 by lilcountrymama
julieg
I added the fo around 130 and yes I did stir it thoroughly.
LadyJo
I use Ecosoya PB too. I weigh my wax before melting. I add 17 oz of dry wax to my presto pot then melt to 185. I then pour it into my pour pot where I add dye and then 1 oz of FO. The FO goes in at approx 175-180 degrees. Stir then cool to 145 and pour into clamshells. SuzyK
I use that wax too but I mix it with xcel. Try adding your FO at a higher temp. I add my FO at 185 and get great results. I pour at 145-155. I also let them cure a 5-7 days before testing.
julieg
thanks for your help. Looks like I need to increase the temperature. I'll try that. Any other tips you can give me are greatly appreciated. Thanks
Ravens
PB can give a really decent throw, but I always let it cure at least 3 days, and heat it close to 190, add FO at 180, stir half a minute or so and pour into molds. HTH
lilcountrymama
I add my fo at 180 so I think it is definatly a good idea to up your temp that may be a big factor
Lorelei
I'm seconding the curing factor with this wax. Some of my scents get stronger and stronger the longer they go.
annie123
Cure time varies from scent to scent. I stopped using this wax for tarts but I remember that at some point I was mixing 25% of container wax in it.
AlwaysWondering
All three of my suggestions have already been made but what the heck... 1) add FO at about 180 degrees, 2) let tarts cure for at least 2 days, preferably 5 and 3) try adding some container wax.
