Unhappy with latest tarts

Ok I have been using and loving the KY tart wax...until now. I received my latest batch and the wax is sinking as it cools. And on my larger tarts it even looks like a honeycomb pattern. I thought maybe i wasn't pouring at the right temperature so i measured carefully with the same results. With the old batch all my tarts came out nice and smooth. Has anyone else had this issue with the latest batches of KY tart wax?

You're not alone on this one. I just received my KY parasoy last Monday and had the exact same thing happen. I really didn't mind it too much, just as long as the HT was the same - well that was a big disappointment. I made 5 batches last Tuesday and not ONE had a decent HT. I have used this wax before and was quite pleased, well not this time. I'm glad I only ordered a 5lb bag.

All the FO's I used were from Natures Garden and I used 1.5 oz per pound. I know the oils are not the problem, because I have been using them in my blend of 4794/415 and they have all turned out good. It definitely makes me hesitant about ordering any more of this wax.

It's not just Ky...some other suppliers got wonky batches as well...thankfully the one I ordered (wasn't from KY) didn't affect the throw...just the appearance (honeycomb type like you mentioned) & adhesion to smaller molds. Able to use it in some larger molds, but I had to search for other wax. Now going thru the testing phase again. Ah, fun :-( I mentioned it to the owner & she acknowledged the problem, & offered to reimburse me, but since in my case the throw isn't affected, & I can use it in some molds, I couldn't do that. I appreciated her willingness, though.

I received KY para-soy wax last week. I am a newbie, so I was excited to try it. I'd heard great things about it. But I have been so disappointed. The heat throw is terrible. I thought it was me being new, but I have made multiple batches following precise measuring and heating specifications. I emailed Vickie from Ky candle supply. She told me I must be doing something wrong, and said she had no other complaints from other customers. I wish she had been more help.:sad2:

Ktaggard, as with most waxes and FOs, I'm sure, there are some that will not work for us but will for others. It's a "mystery" I've learned to ignore, lol

I tried KY parasoy for tarts in the past and, like you, I was totally unimpressed with it; yet many members here love it. What gives? Have no idea:confused:

The Candle Source wax is what I love and what works for me. However, like the KY parasoy, it is available from one supplier only (The Candle Source). This makes me a bit nervous these days; what if they decide to change the formula? What if they close shop? etc. etc.

It works great for me, but not for some people; again, have no idea why. I am experimenting with various blends (mainly paraffin) to find a formula that will come close to my beloved TCS wax... just in case. I'm close, but not quite:rolleyes2

You may want to purchase small quantities of various waxes, play with them and see what works for you; this is what I did. Good luck!

ktaggard, don't know how much of TCS wax you ordered (hope you ordered the right one, it's the one on the left side of your screen), but I would be happy to send you some sample tarts and see if you like them and if they're strong enough for you.

I don't know why really, but I often worry when someone orders a whole bunch of The Candle Source wax and then is disappointed because they don't get the same throw I get:sad2: Makes me feel guilty... let me know if you have specific questions about it, and I will try my best to answer them.

Let us know how it goes!

That's so funny. When I posted that I was ordering the TCS wax, I wondered how you would feel. I would have had the same feelings. We always want others to love something the way we do. :smiley2: Sorry to make you nervous, but I have a good feeling about it. I ordered the Container blend-slab. I think that is the kind you mentioned in other posts. I also order IGI 4794 and 415 from Peak. Hoping one of them will work. I'm still excited. And I would love to get a few samples of your tarts. That is so sweet of you!!!!

:cheesy2:I'm experimenting with 4794 and 415 also. I'll keep you posted on how they work. I'm mixing 75% 4794 and 25% 415. 4794 has a great HT and CT but mine will only last for a couple of hours. Also, you will LOVE Ravens tarts! They are off the chart! I have one of her's that lasted 3 days!! And that was burning at least 9-10 hours per day! She's also a GREAT friend and will is very gracious in helping new candle makers. I'll let you know how my tarts come out. They're still curing and should be able to burn them tomorrow. :yay:

Omg I thought is was me...mine did the sinking thing too. I did most of my batches in silicone molds and they sunk down in the middle. They didn't look that bad so I just kinda let it go but then I poured some in some clamshells and they turned out horrible. The cold and hot throw seems to be ok but the appearance is just not the business. I almost done with the bag so I need to be figuring out something else soon.

Ok, poured some tarts this weekend with the KY wax - guess what.....it did that honeycomb thing another poster posted & hardly any ct - I put them in a glass jar to hopefully "keep the scent in the tarts" LOL & no ht unless I was standing right over my warmer........I'm so bumbed!!! :sad2:

Ok, I may have totally jumped the gun here on this batch of wax. I brought my warmer & melts with me to work thinking maybe my living room was too big for me to get a good ht from.......so plugged it all up & turned it on......all of a sudden- ok about 15 or minutes later, I could smell my melts!!! You could smell it as soon as you walked into my work from the outside!!!:yay: Melted for about 5 hours yesterday & melting today, still smelling it in my office! This makes me very happy!!! So let those babies cure, cure, cure for a few days. Lesson learned!!!
