KMommy
How much time should it take to achieve a full melt pool? I know you don't want it to happen too quickly. Is there a certain amount of time that if it hasn't reached a full melt pool across the top of the container a larger wick should be tested? Rae Ann
I believe the general rule of thumb is 1 hour per inch in diameter of the container so for a 3" diameter jar it "should" take about 3 hours. This is only a guideline and I wouldn't drive myself crazy trying to achieve the exact timing. If you are able to get a full melt pool in less time without smoking or soot I'd say you've done a good job. If it takes considerably longer then I'd try a larger wick. KMommy
Thanks! Yes, it was taking alot longer than 3 hours and even then there wasn't a full melt pool. I'll try a larger wick.
