shantillescandlecreation
I was discussing with a Fellow candle maker some wick questions. One that we both thought would make a neat thread was about Predipped wick vs bare wick. So who here uses wick that is completely covered in wax and why, and who here leaves the wax sticking out of the candle bare and why. We are both interested to read your responses. My wife and I usually dip the wick in wax before putting it in the jar or mold. We feel it keeps the wick from burning to fast on the initial lighting. The Woman that I was speaking with does both depending on the candle size and wax she's using.
grama
All my container candles I use "waxed" wicks. I really like the raw wick for pillars but it is harder to light a wick that has not been waxed and if customers don't know how to light them and if the wick is not left long enough they may not get it lit. This has been my experience with wicks.

Sara
Primed preferred here as well. I prime my pillar wicks.
Vicky_CO
It depends on my application but for my standard pillar no I do not prime.
