angied
So no one has any tips? I read somewhere that you can shine them with pantyhose....is this true? well i guess I can try it but boy that is alot of work to shine each one. But I will try it unless someone has a better idea.Angie
chris77
I'm a newbie so I could be wrong...but I think the secret it pouring temp and metal molds. I've made tarts in both metal molds and plastic molds and find that I get a better shine pouring hotter into a metal mold. HTH
angied
Thanks Chris.....I use metal molds but maybe I am not pouring hot enough....how hot do you pour?Angie:smiley2:
AngelaVA
What wax are you using?
Dee
I just run the heat gun over the molds. Enough to warm them and take the chill off but not really hot or bubbles may form.
angied
I use 1 oz. FO per lb to a 50/50 blend of J223 and 6228. I have a heat gun I will try that. Thanks guys:grin2: Angie
AngelaVA
I use 6228 by itself and get nice shiney tarts, so the J223 might be the culprit here. It is an opague container wax and might account for the loss of shine.
angied
hmmm never thought about that I may just need to use the 6228. I will try that now since I need to buy more wax tomorrow anyways.. Thanks Angela:highfive: Angie
chris77
I'm using cbl141 from candlewic. I pour around 175 but I also heat my mold first. of course the soy votive wax I used came out shiny as well but I did heat my mold.

Thanks Angela:highfive: AngieNo problem, I pour 6228 tarts pretty cool to avoid having a ton of shrinkage. HTH
angied
Chris....your candles are the ones I am talking about...I love how shiney they look. I think you did a really good job. I am soooo jealous (lol) Angie
angied
Angela....how cool do you pour if you dont mind me asking??Angie
AngelaVA
I pour somewhere around 160. I don't always check the temp because I usually pour my tarts after doing my second pour on votives, but if I pour too hot, I get a huge crater in the tart which needs a second pour (I don't like to repour my tarts). Also, I don't heat my molds. If you are buying wax tomorrow, you might want to try 4794. I really liked that wax, but can't get it locally. It shrinks less than 6228 and makes a prettier tart, imho. Also easier for votives as far as not getting that nipple after the repour. Definitely worth trying out if you can get some.

Scented
Putting candles into a water bath also helps with getting a shine on candles. I didn't read through the whole thread, but if it hasn't been mentioned, well then it will be now lol!
