JudyN
I tried to make a mottled candle yesterday and it did not turn out. I've been reading like crazy. I used Vybar 103 and Parol with FO. I think from what I've read I should not use the Vybar 103 is this correct?

judyvega
The vybar 343 will help keep the fo from seeping out during burning, so if you can get some, please do
JudyN
Where do I get Vybar 343, I see Vybar 103 and 260, but not 343? Also, do I need Stearic if I'm using Vybar 103? Are there times when I would use both Vybar and Stearic?
Scented
You can skip using the vybar 343 and use steric to cut down on the wetness of the candle. I've been using 1 T of steric per pound and it isn't killing the mottling and you could probably use less too. Vybar 103 (pillars), 260 (containers) both will kill your mottling.vybar 343 is available through candlewic.com
Donita
hehehe.....now you are just one of us....experiment, experiment experiment. We all have different favorite waxes. Scented is right. You don't need anything, really.....wax will mottle when it can no longer bind the oil molecules with the paraffin. The use of additives cause the mottle to look different, allows you to use more oil, get different mottles.....it's just a matter of what looks good to you. If you are using a mottling wax, then as Jokenjen showed us, you don't need much oil. If you are using a straight paraffin that isn't designed to mottle, then you will need more oil. Steric is just something that "dries" up the oil and keeps it from leaking out....also helps to improve the strength of the wax. Just play with what you have and post some pictures. Then we can see how you are doing. Donita
Donita
and I forgot.....if you want to buy vybar 343, Candlewic sells it. It can take the place of steric in that it allows you to use more oil.
