SatinDucky
I would like to hear from anyone who makes floating candles. Any kind of wax, any wick, any scent, any size/shape.... how long do yours burn? I've done large and small hearts, daisies and roses. Though all have been with 4625 and different types and sizes of wicks. It almost always averages about 1hr 45mins to 2 hrs. One rose did die after just one hour though :undecidedI'm really curious what experiences others have had with floaters....
barncat
I offer 4 sizes. One has 6-8 hours, another 20-25 hrs, another 12-15 hrs, and a fourth that burns for over 100hrs. I defeinately think you need ones that last at least 4-6 hours, otherwise they aren't worth it. I sell mainly the 20-25 hr ones, and ahve sold quite a few of the 100hr ones. SatinDucky
Mind if I ask what size yours are, as in how large? What kind of wax do you use? The mini hearts make good time, since it's almost 2 hrs and the hearts themselves are just barely over an inch wide. These larger ones I really expected better time :embarasse While they are wider, rose 2.3" and daisy 3.5", they're still only a lil over 1" deep. But I'm really not happy with these
SatinDucky
So nobody else does floating candles?
Vicky_CO
I do but I use my own mix of Paraffin and micro wax
fredron
I do a rose which is about 2" in diameter and 1 1/4" thick. This one burns about 12 hours using 6228 wax. I alco make the same candle using only the top half of the mold, making it about 5/8" thick, which burns about 6 hours. Fredron
SatinDucky
Then I'm definitely doing something seriously wrong.... :undecidedAny suggestions of what to try to get a longer burn?
Vicky_CO
Well what wicks are you trying to use?
SatinDucky
Hmm... that info might help huh :embarasseIn the daisy and rose I've been trying LX10 and 12. I have a couple 14 and a 16 I'm going to burn today.
barncat
When I first did them I used LX, they just tunneled down and I could not get a decent melt pool and long burning time, I switched to zinc, and they work great.
Vicky_CO
I was the same as barn with the LX wicks but I switch to HTP and got a longer burn time.
SatinDucky
Now doesn't that just figure...lolI think the only zinc I have is 36z and 41z. I have a HTP sample pack in the drawer still but not sure what sizes are in there. I'll go look.I was thinking these would be along the lines of votive size wicks... maybe I should be trying larger...Thanks ya'll! At least this gives me some ideas for different directions to go in for testing
Vicky_CO
Think tea light I think you will be happier
SatinDucky
Ohhh... yeah... well ya see.... I don't know anything about tea light wicks, except that they're very small Do they come in different sizes or just type? I don't think I have any that small unless there is some in the sample packs. :undecided
Vicky_CO
HTP 31 if you have it in a sample pack try it.
SatinDucky
Yup, that's the smallest size in the pack. There's a few pieces left in there from testing votives so I'll try them in the ones that are cooling now. Thanks
