idacandlelady
Anyone have any tips on how to safely dispose of a premixed lye solution?
topofmurrayhill
Decide which drain could use a cleaning and pour it down. Follow with a lot of water.
idacandlelady
DUH! :embarasse I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I was focused, and worried about the garbage disposal. Wasn't thinking about the bathroom. I guess a little OCD. :tiptoe: Thanks Top!
CareBear
I wouldn't dump a ton at a time though. Or do repeated applications right on top of each other. How much do you need to trash?
idacandlelady
It's already done. It wasn't much. I wish I could erase this thread, I feel like an idiot for asking this. My anal thinking, was so worried about the kitchen sink/disposal issue, didn't even think about the tub or bath sink.

mystical_angel1219
If I have to get rid of lye solution, I dilute it with a pail of water and toss it down the drain. Followed by letting the cold water run for about 10 minutes. Never had any issues.
deb12c
Don't feel bad I might have asked the same question. Because I don't have metal pipes, I have PVC pipes. I heard lye was not good for them. And would eat through them, don't know if it's true or not.

Remember lots of people use pvc for round soaps with no problems and the lye is still present when poured.
TAS
I have heard not to flush lye solution if you have a septic tank. Maybe somebody will chime in and let us know if that is true or false.TAS
jbren
I have a septic at one of my homes and do NOT use lye for those drains.
