idacandlelady
I want to try my hand at making pillars, and am wondering if Ecosoya PB works ok for making them. I have some of this wax that is why I'm asking. Or is there a better pillar wax for a beginner? I'll probably order a mold from peaks and could order some wax if there is a better choice from them. Thanks for any advice!Rebecca
Sally
I found it prone to cracking if used on it's own but now I blend it with pw pillar wax I get great results most of the time.I'm going to be expanding my range to include pillars with E.O's so I'll be working on improving the performance of the Ecosoya PB without the pw, & keeping lots of notes as I go.Sally. Stella1952
I've tested a couple of pillars of this recently and found it to work very well. No problem with cracking on either one (3" x 8" octagons) and had very good throw. I used no additives other than UV. HTH
cozyaromas
I use Ecosoya PB, and I personally love it. I use it for my votives and pillars.
Candybee
I use it too and it makes nice pillars, votives, and tarts. Haven't experienced any cracking and it slides out of the molds nicely.
Gdawg
I use this wax for pillars and votites and love it. The scent throw is awesome, never had an issue with cracking (knock on wood)
idacandlelady
What kind of wicks do you all use with this for pillars. Not wanting to know sizes just, square braid, flat braid, or could you use the same type as containers such as LX, HTP,Cotton,CD, etc? Thanks for all your replies already. Think I'm gonna go ahead and try the PB and see how it goes. Now off to pick out a mold....
Gdawg
I have good luck with the LX's with this in pillars
Stella1952
I use CDNs (Stabillo KST).
idacandlelady
I have both of these, but I went ahead and ordered some square braid also. It would be better if I can use ones I already have and use. Does it matter that they are waxed?
Gdawg
when you say wax are you talking about the wax on the wicks? that is when your wick is primed and that is what I use primed wicks
idacandlelady
Sorry, that's what I meant, primed.
Stella1952
We have used unprimed wicking for some molded palm wax candles, but for pillars we always use primed wick assemblies.
idacandlelady
Made my Pillar. Couldn't wait to burn it, so I lit it last night. Not much HT but it was only about 10 hrs old. Started with a LX 26 wick. After about 4 1/2 hrs it had less than a 1/4 in shell, and pretty good size mushroom. Seems like I need a bigger wick for MP size, but seems to need smaller for mushrooms. Not sure where to go from there. Thought about trying a CDN but the sizes (on the chart) don't seem big enough.
Gdawg
you can always try using less FO and that might help with the mushrooms and then again it may be a FO that will give you mushrooms no matter what amount you use. I dont let my pillars cure a long either just cause the CT is awesome. My HT is pretty too. Hopefully stella can guide you into what what CDN wick to use. What size is your pillar again? Stella1952
If it's a 3" pillar, I start with a CDN 14 and go up or down as needed. HTH
idacandlelady
It's 3" and soy. The soy part is what is making me wonder about wick sizes.
Stella1952
CDN 14 worked well for me in palm wax. Ecosoya PB I wicked up to a CDN 16. Some really heavy oils may need to be wicked up a notch from there.
idacandlelady
Thanks Stella, for the help. I'm gonna try a CDN 16 tonight. Hopefully I will get some HT.
