making pillars

Recommended Posts

I want to try my hand at making pillars, and am wondering if Ecosoya PB works ok for making them. I have some of this wax that is why I'm asking. Or is there a better pillar wax for a beginner? I'll probably order a mold from peaks and could order some wax if there is a better choice from them.

Thanks for any advice!

Rebecca

I found it prone to cracking if used on it's own but now I blend it with pw pillar wax I get great results most of the time.

I'm going to be expanding my range to include pillars with E.O's so I'll be working on improving the performance of the Ecosoya PB without the pw, & keeping lots of notes as I go.

What kind of wicks do you all use with this for pillars. Not wanting to know sizes just, square braid, flat braid, or could you use the same type as containers such as LX, HTP,Cotton,CD, etc?

Thanks for all your replies already. Think I'm gonna go ahead and try the PB and see how it goes. Now off to pick out a mold....

Made my Pillar. :yay: Couldn't wait to burn it, so I lit it last night. Not much HT but it was only about 10 hrs old. Started with a LX 26 wick. After about 4 1/2 hrs it had less than a 1/4 in shell, and pretty good size mushroom. Seems like I need a bigger wick for MP size, but seems to need smaller for mushrooms. Not sure where to go from there. Thought about trying a CDN but the sizes (on the chart) don't seem big enough.

you can always try using less FO and that might help with the mushrooms and then again it may be a FO that will give you mushrooms no matter what amount you use. I dont let my pillars cure a long either just cause the CT is awesome. My HT is pretty too. Hopefully stella can guide you into what what CDN wick to use. What size is your pillar again?
