artcwolf
Okay i know this is a stupid question, but....Is the reason a votive has a stronger throw on a warmer then with a flame because of the amount of melted wax?Yeah i know like i said stupid question. gingerinarkansas
It's not a stupid question...that's how we all learn. You have a larger melt pool using a warmer so you have more scent. Ginger
Fern
A higher sustained heat helps it throw more as well.
topofmurrayhill
The wick also burns up the scent. With most candles you'll notice they throw most strongly immediately after you blow them out.
artcwolf
That would definitely be part of my throw problem, before i started making candles i'd put the store bought ones on a warmer. Now i'm trying to be a good candle maker and use a flame and wick. I brought a votive to the office and put it on a warmer and it filled the whole floor with scent. Thanks all for helping this inquisitive idiot out. islandgirl
Dip your wicks, don't blow them . :lipsrsealAll you will smell is smoke when you blow them out..
blazerina
Ok, I was just browsing this section- cuz I don't want to go to bed, lol...And this is new to me to dip the wick in stead of blow...do you mean actually sticking the wick down into the wax to drown it out? And if so doesn't that make it hard to light again???(yes, I'm trying to hijack Artcwolf's thread with an even stupider question:laugh2: ):embarasse
islandgirl
Dipping your wick into your melt pool will extinguish the flame and eliminate the smoke. It also primes your wick for your next lighting.Wickman sell dippers and shows some pictures on how to dip your wick!! LOLhttp://www.wickmanproducts.com/wickdipper.htm (Scroll down for pictures)Mathews Wire also sells the scroll wire wick dippers, which work just a well.Dip it, pull the wick up, and recenter it. No more smoke..

MissMary
You guys and your minds! Besides, blowing to get smoke is so much fun and there's even a few seconds of smoldering....
SpaceGirl
Then there's the lick your fingers and pinch together for the sizzle method.(I personally don't try that one myself -- too afraid of getting burned - *cough* LOL)
