racolvin
I'm looking for, I think, a supplier for hydrogenated Cottonseed Oil. It's my understanding that cottonseed oil is sometimes used in soaping, so I thought I would ask you folks in here Does such a beast exist and if so, where would be a good place to order a small quantity for testing?TIA! CareBear
I do use it in soaping, but only as a component of solid shortening (Crisco). Sorry!
mystical_angel1219
http://www.soaperschoice.com/soapoils/cottonseedoil.htmlI had another supplier that sells this small qty, I'll post if I can find it.I will suggest getting the "winterized" version, as pure cottonseed oil is indeed super cheap, but it has a very short shelf life [highly prone to rancidity] if it isn't treated. It is basically a non-edible, waste by-product from the mercantile industry.
racolvin
My understanding is that the stuff Soapers Choice sells is liquid cottonseed oil, not hydrogenated/semi-solid stuff - is that correct?
mystical_angel1219
Yes, the CF version is most definitely in liquid form.Have you tried Google search for this yet? I know there is a supplier that sells it. I just can't remember who off the top of head. LOL!

jbren
Follow this link and click on Southeast and Oil Products. You will get a list of 18 suppliers in the Southeast from the National Cottonseed Products Association. http://www.cottonseed.com/Suppliers/default.asp?contentType=Directory&strItemAction=list
Jo Ann
when something is hydrogenated, it means they added a hydrogen atom to it to make it a preservative...so it should go too rancid if its hydrogenated...that is what makes the crisco solid and keepable.
