GrandmaArial
I finally figured out the secret to making a pretty top with in the pot swirling, which is the only way I can make decent swirls… save a few tablespoons of the colored portion out to drizzle on top. Ok, I know the rest of you figured that out a long time ago but sometimes I have to beat my head into the wall for awhile to get something. The first pic is the pretty top, no, not as nice as most of yours but I’m thrilled with it. I poured it Thursday; this is what it looked like last night. The next is of it cut. Thank you jbren for motivating me to finally get around to making a light box with your beautiful Black Irish. I know the gold finch doesn’t “go with” the soap, I just was experimenting with the box. The color is just ground kelp, scented with Bittercreek’s “Ocean Mist”. Yes, I am beginning to experiment with FOs. Next is another experiment, bay rum scented (oil only, I filtered the herbs this time) which was requested by my neighbor who will be making me some new molds in exchange. He said he didn’t care what it looked like so I played. I’m starting to try oxides, and it’s my first attempt at double swirl.Last, but not least, it more sweet green tea. Again, just playing with the light box, but I’m rather proud of the picture so people are going to see it!Thanks for looking.

Jadryga
Great soaps, Grandma! I like the pink swirly soap with the green crystal (?) chunk best. That's the bay rum?The lighting needs to be brightened somewhat though... not sure how your setup is, but if you can, maybe put the lights closer to the box or use brighter bulbs? Alternatively you can just brighten it with an image manipulation program

GrandmaArial
Thank you all.Mystical angel, those swirls are supposed to be green. LOL. I’m hoping it will fade just a bit so it actually looks green as it cures, but I am thinking of making a black and white swirl. I just can’t decide what scent to try with it. I’m thinking something spicy.Jadryga, yes, you’re right, I do need to get more light in there. The last picture (green tea) I brought my desk lamp in and it is a bit better but I think I need to pick up some small flood lights, 3 of them, one for each side and one for the top. However I am still pleased with these pictures as the colors came out so true to the colors of the soaps. I have had a lot of trouble getting the colors right taking the pictures on my kitchen counter. And Donna… anyone you want! As for it smelling good… not so much, at least yet. The smell of the kelp is still very over whelming, and at this point it smells more like mud and raw soap. of course it’s only 3 days old and just went to the curing racks today. I’m hoping it will mellow out and let the Ocean Mist come through.

Floodlights are a great idea, I was thinking of getting some cheap table lamps from Ikea or something (at least 3) but now you've got me thinking maybe I should just go straight for floodlights.Did you make or buy your lightbox? Curious since I found some sites on DIY lightboxes

Floodlights are a great idea, I was thinking of getting some cheap table lamps from Ikea or something (at least 3) but now you've got me thinking maybe I should just go straight for floodlights.Did you make or buy your lightbox? Curious since I found some sites on DIY lightboxes I made mine out of a cardboard box, plastic walmart bags (they are very white, use the back of couse) and freezer paper. I had to use what I could find around the house as hubby was determained he wasn't going to take me to spend money (I already spent all my spending money on oils). I am gettig ready to put a dowle across the top of the back so I can drape fabrics, and plan on picking up some poster board, black, white (the freezer paper is slightly off white) and probaly some other colors for the background. For the flood lights I'm thinking 3 "Westinghouse Spike-a-Lights" (they come with both flange and spike bases, figure use the flange atached to a scrap of wood, about $5 ea.) with the low wattage flood light bulbs. Total cost for supplies I esitmate will be about $35 to $40 (includeing lights).
