Mnhorsemom
I have been wanting to try to make shaving soap, and was wondering if it would work to pour it into jars? I would love to be able to do it in tins and since I don't have a mold for that (and I know I can't pour directly into a tin) I thought maybe into a jar like the ones I have used for my body butters. Think it would work? TIA
CareBear
It could work as long as there is plenty of room to build up lather. I've gotten some rather small containers and tried those but my testers actually like to use a bigger mug with lots of room.
idacandlelady
Depending on how tall the jar is I think it would work fine. I poured directly into enamel mugs and my testers loved them!
Mnhorsemom
Ida, I thought about the enamel mugs too but the only ones I have take about 20ozs of wax so I think they would be a tad too big to do soap in!
Kimberly
I pour my shaving soap into 4oz low profile containers.
blazerina
Ok, I have to ask.. cuz I really don't know.... why can't you pour directly into a tin? :embarasse
Kimberly
Ok, I have to ask.. cuz I really don't know.... why can't you pour directly into a tin? :embarasseI would say it is because the corosivness of the lye and the chemical reaction it may have to the tin. But that is just a guess on my part.
blazerina
Ohh, ok. That makes sense. I don't do the lye soap thing, lol... my mind went instantly to the assumption that this was in regards to M&P. :rolleyes2 Thanks for the clarification! Purple Lilac
A few years back I tried this - The only issue I had was it took a little longer for the soap to cure. I also tried to make "refill" soaps of the same size jar size - that did not work out so well. The soap stuck and I couldn't get it out of the jar ( I did not line or oil the refill jar before, that may make a difference, I do not know). Next time you make a batch of soap just pour one jar and see if that works for you.
kidsngarden
I poured CP shave soap into tins. They were the ones from SKS. I coated them all with vaseline but one to see the reactions. None. They've been done 4 weeks and there is no reaction whatsoever. I should've seen a chemical reaction in the first hours I would think, but I didn't see anything.I don't know why it worked but it did!Bethany
Bunny
Ok, they didn't rust or get damaged in 4 weeks. Have they been used yet? Left soaking full of water the way some may treat it? Go for the long haul here. They get gross!
kidsngarden
That may be true, but I was referring to how the CP didn't discolor or eat through the metal.Don't mugs get gross too?, but I guess they don't rust and they are deeper.Bethany
Bunny
The worst I've seen in mugs is a slime mess at the bottom because of people using too much water.
