DeJae
If I make a 3x6 pillar, the calculator on Peak says 21 ounces of wax BUTif I make a 6x3 it takes 43ounces of wax. Does this seem right or am I doing something wrong here?
DeJae
No body knows if this is right or which is right??I have a 3x6 pillar but have a customer that buys them from us but also wants a 6x3 and I want to be able to quote her a price and I am not sure this figure is right. Does anyone know of another calculator.

Candle Man
I don't know why the calculator shows it as different it is the same volume.Pour both sizes and weigh them.
DeJae
I agree CandleMan but I can't pour both sizes, I don't have a 6x3 yet and wanted to quote her a price first before I go and get a mold and start testing.
DeJae
That other calculator does the same thing, doubles it for a 6x3, this seems so wrong!!Is there anyone out there that does a 6 x 3 that could tell me?

IndyGirl
Ok..........I make up about 4 cups or 32 oz for a 3x6.5 pillar. I like to have a bit extra for topping off after cooling and shrinking. Once I have it done and if I have any left I just melt it and make a tart or votive.
DeJae
Thanks Indy GirlI already know about a 3x6 pillar we are looking for a 6x3 pillar wax quantityCandleman, if you have a 6x3 and can pour one, I would truely appreciate it.Thanks so much
Candle Man
I have all sizes & shapes. I'll pour one and report back tomorrow.
Candle Man
BTW - Why does someone want such a thin 6"?
homecomfort
Dusting off my old geometry hat here...it makes sense to me. The volume in a 3x6 inch cylinder is about half the volume of a 6x3 inch cylinder so that would hold true when it comes to the weight of wax needed. If we calculate the volume of the mold in square inches rather than weight, it may make more sense:r2h = VHere are the mathematical break downs for the cylinder molds in discussion. Notice the difference in the volumes.3x6 cylinder mold3.14 X 2.25 X 6 = 42.39 square inches6x3 cylinder mold3.14 X 9 X 3 = 84.78 square inchesHope this helps and doesn't just make things more confusing. SatinDucky
Calculating it manually, the volume does come out to nearly double. ...Pi x (radiussquared) x heightPeaks site says the 6" x 9.5" holds 115 oz, so filled only 1/3 full is going to be around 40 oz... homecomfort
Yeah... what homecomfort said haha, great minds think alike! you summed it up MUCH simpler than I did, I tend to ramble sometimes
DeJae
I guess so, just seemed like it would be the same candle turned sideways and should be the same amount of or near the same ounces.Candleman, damned if I know why they want a 6 x 3 candle. They carry our 3x6 and 3x3 and wanted a 6x3, it is a big LA Spa...who knows what or why they do or want what they want.....it was strange to me too. Stella1952
Here's a link to a volume calculator - it doesn't offer ounces, but it does do liters. Just convert the liters to ounces and you'll have your answer! http://www.handymath.com/cgi-bin/cylinder.cgi

The calculator here gives the wax needed. It's much easier...
Candle Man
I made a candle and weighed it and the calculator is right. A 6"X3" pillar takes 42-43 oz's of wax.
