Soy Testing??

Recommended Posts

How soon have you tested your soy candles for hot throw? I know the norm is to let them cure for at least 2 weeks. Just wondered if anyone got antsy lol and tested them before. I just made up a test candle in one of my wine glasses scented Wine & Roses at 1.5 oz pp. I'm not a very patient person when it comes to trying my candles lmao

If you are using Wine and Roses from BCN it threw for me in 24 hours fantastically.

Yes it's Wine and Roses from BCN. Thanks Kelly It didn't get as dark a red as I wanted but it looks nice and smells wonderful. I may start making pure soy candles. The only soy I've tried was that soy from CandleWealth yuck. Never could get that stuff wicked right or to throw. I would like to try a sample of some soy's. What do you recommend. Sorry to be so long winded lol. Although, I love GL's 70/30 blend. Tough choice lol but so many people are into the pure soy.

Same here, 24-48 hours. There are a few of my oils that definately need a longer cure time. It is true the longer they sit the better but if you can get a good hot throw in a couple of days you know it will only get better in time.

Which BCN FOs have you found to need the short curing times? I only ordered two scents from them, Spiced Cranberry and Autumn Spice. The Spiced Cranberry took a lot longer to cure, and it is supposed to be a strong scent. I got a better throw with Autumn Spice.

You were right about this scent Kelly. I'm test burning it now and the hot throw is wonderful. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I remember reading somewhere that soy is bad about mushrooming on wicks. I'm using a 51-32-18 I have a little hang up on the sides. I'm going to burn it again and hopefully it will catch up.

Maryann this is the only fo i've tested in soy from BCN. I don't usually do pure soy but I had a bunch that I bought from someone and decided to give it a try. I am a GL 70/30 blend person all the way lol

I'm on my 2nd burn at 5 1/2 hours with the 51-32-18 and I still have hang up on the glass more than I thought I would and more than is appropriate in my opinion. It's tunneling and the flame is flickering like it's not wanting to stay lit. Should I try a different wick or try wicking up on the z?
