skyeblue
Hi all,I have just started playing around with M&P, I just used a goats milk one, melted it, added fragrance oil and poured it into moulds. Although it has set fine, it is quite slimy and it won't dry out, what have I done wrong Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated as I am a total newbie to soap making. Thanks so much. CountryGal
how much FO did you add?
Candybee
I love goat's milk m&p. Its one of my best sellers. I use 2-3 tsp FO per pound of soap base depending on the FO. How much did you use skyeblue? And what temp did you melt it and add your FO?
skyeblue
Hi,I was working on a ratio of 15g per lb, does that sound right? Is that most likely to be my problem, too much oil?I didn't measure the temp, I just heated it until it has almost melted then kept stirring.I'm useless aren't I
scntdwik
Every once in a while, I have some batches that never seem to feel dry no matter how long they sit and Ive been doing M&P for quite some time now so Im curious to see the response to this question. CountryGal
you aren't useless...... I am mathematically challenged though and have no idea how much 15g is. I know I only use about 2 tsp. pp myself....
CareBear
15 grams is APPROXIMATELY 15 mls, which means it's equal to 3 teaspoons which is also equal to 1 tablespoon5 ml = 1 tsp (water)3 tsp = 1 Tbsp
skyeblue
hmmm, so maybe my oil amount wasn't too bad, is it very important for the mix to stay under a certain temp, could that be the problem?
Peachdream
Is the slime thick or does it have a kind of wet appearance on the outside of the bar? MP is a humectant and draws water out of the air so if you soap on a humid day you can get 'sweating'. If you wipe it off the bar will be hard underneath and just fine to use. so you just need to wipe and then put into a cello bag or wrap in cling wrap. Thats the only thing I can think of, cause I usually associate slime with too much added oils or fragrance, but then the bar doesnt set up properly either or has definite pockets of oil on top and bottom.
