idacandlelady
Does anyone use this in their soap? What does it do for soap? I just saw an ingredient list for soap that listed citric acid. Was wondering if anyone new the benifits or qualities it lends to the finished product.
CareBear
A handcrafted soap? I wouldn't think it would be a good idea to use it since it will "use up" some of the lye...
Scented
I would think it would fizz away the minute it hit any of the oil. :undecided
blazerina
Other than in bath bombs... the purpsose of citric acid in most products is as a pH balancer. So my guess would be that there is another ingredient in the recipie that makes the citric necessary. You can alter your products ph using citric. Otherwise, I think I have heard it is used as a surfactant? (breaks the surface of the water) But i'm not sure.
Bunny
Yup.. I agree with Blaze. That's why citric acid is in lotions, liquid soaps, and shower gels, to bring the ph down. CP soap is naturally high in ph, so I can understand the reasoning for bringing it down. It doesn't use lye, as it's not an oil or butter. It doesn't fizz, as the fizzing comes from a reaction with the baking soda. I've never heard of it being used as a surfactant, but haven't looked into it either. idacandlelady
Do people usually test the PH in bar soap. Should I be doing this?
Scented
Well interesting Bun. I just was stabbing out there (and shouldn't lol) but I couldn't help but to think that it would go poof.
sudsy
Their site lists citric acid as an antioxidant, toner and astringent. Maybe that's why they're using it?
