throw problem

I am having a problem getting my votives to throw. I am using js 50 50 and the js votive wicks. Any advice. Adding fo at 180

How much FO are you using? And what FO? Might be a light scent or not enough of it...?

On general how much scent do you expect to add for a pound of wax? I can never get a good throw either and would like a ballpark figure to work from! (i use straight paraffin wax)

The js ones wherent working for me so I use NG now. They throw amazing in tarts but not in others. I use between 1 and 1.5 oz pp.

I usually use 1 oz to 1 lb wax with great results. Votives have a small melt pool, so if your wax can hold it may want to up it a little. Some will hold 1 1/2 ozs of FO. Good luck, you could also have candle nose:)

Wow, 1 oz per pound! Thats loads, not adding anywhere near that much, no wander i have poor scent throw. The wax always smells so lovely when i first add the scent, but then it goes when the candle sets

You could also add vybar to hold the scent. That's if you're using paraffin...I add 1 tsp/lb with 6ish% fo.

Like botanica stated if you are using straight paraffin wax you will probably want to add vybar to it to get a better throw.

Vybar will help the wax hold more FO. But too much vybar will also lock up the scent. I know the package says 1 tsp/lbs. But I never use that much. I use straight paraffin (139) and never go above 1/2 tsp/lbs.

I use 50/50. It says that is also is pre blended. Would putting vybar in it help? Is there another wick I should be sing? The candle burns great and I am using the same wax that I make my tarts with and they throw great just cant get the votives to throw really well.

Hi, if you are using a 50/50 blend, you may need a hotter burning wick. I use a 50/50 for my jars, and definately found I got a better throw using CD wicks as oppsed to zinc. Now, I've read on here that some folks have great success w/ this blend and zinc wicks, but I love the CD's.

It is also true that not all FO's WILL throw in your combo., unfotunately, no matter what you do... You just have to test out ea. one...:rolleyes2

Goodness, I didn't know that...I've been using 1 tsp/lb. thinking that it was alright.

Should I try cotton wicks too then? I just put a iso in the classys to see if I can test them out. I was going to buy some but it was 10 for them and 9 for shipping so I am hoping I can find some in here first.

If you use a preblend, you probally wouldnt want to add any more to it.
