SoapInTheCity Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Here is my Citrus Calendula soap made with Grapefruit & Sweet Orange Essential Oils. The Calendula was steeping in the olive oil for probably a good 2 months! I've been meaning to make it!!!! This soap turned out perfectly. Quote
SoapInTheCity Posted July 10, 2006 Author Posted July 10, 2006 They are the Calendula Flowers. Calendula has antiseptic and astringent properties. Calendula is a remedy for the skin, providing effective treatment for most minor skin problems. Calendula can be used as a first aid remedy for cuts, scrapes and wounds; for red and inflamed skin, including minor burns and sunburn; for acne and many rashes. Calendula is very helpful for diaper rash. Quote
CareBear Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Absolutely cool. Would calendula be a good thing to infuse for my "hands and heels" balm for cracked fingers and heels? Quote
SoapInTheCity Posted July 10, 2006 Author Posted July 10, 2006 Absolutely! Here is a great website about Calendula and all it's uses!I infuse olive and grapeseed oil with many herbs including Calendula for my herbal salves. http://www.herbs2000.com/herbs/herbs_calendula.htm Quote
CareBear Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 In my quest for knowledge, and my quest for a white soap - what combo of oils did you use to get such a nice color? Quote
SoapInTheCity Posted July 10, 2006 Author Posted July 10, 2006 I added the slightest bit of beige mica to the soap. Palm & Coconut Oils, Olive Oil.....a few others but it may have been the unrefined yellow shea butter that did it. I used it at 5%. As well the calendula that had been steeping in the olive oil was a bit yellowish due to the coloration of the flower petals. Quote
CareBear Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Well, whatever you did I ABSOLUTELY love the look! I haven't worked with the yellow shea, though I have a pound of it from somewhere. Quote

SoapInTheCity Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 Just wanted to let you all know that I have never sold a soap faster than this one! Every single one of them sold, and they aren't even finished curing yet! (They know this, don't worry!) I just sold the last 9 today! I'm off to make a double batch! Quote
Scented Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Very fresh looking bars. I've gotta get some of that calendula and give it a try. Wish I had some now to apply to my sunburn. Quote
CareBear Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Scented, I find a washcloth wet with cool tea works wonders. Quote
