Introducing myself + tart candle throw question

Recommended Posts

Hello, wanted to introduce myself. This is my first post but I've been reading thousands of posts since joining. So much information, so little time!

I'm a retired teacher and Ive been making bath and body for several years and am just now venturing into soy candles. What a difference!

Been experimenting with soy candles and tarts using Cargill C3 flakes and 3 bakery fragrances from NG (Sweet Potatoe Pie, Hot Iced Cinnamon Buns and Orange Danish, all at 1.5 oz per lb). I'm melting to 185 to 190, adding fragrance and color at 175 stirring slowly for several minutes and again just before pouring slowly at about 150.

Using a 9oz beanpot jar wicked with an Eco 12, then pouring the remaing wax into fluted tarts shells. The tarts and candles both have awesome cold throw and the tarts throw like crazy when melted (even immediately after cooling). I cannot however get a good hot throw from the candle after 48 hours of curing.

I am suspecting my wick is wrong. I get a nice melt pool (according to all the posts I've read) in the proper amount of time.

Any advice appreciated...looking forward to being a member!

Hi and Welcome to the board.

It could be that your container is going to need to cure longer than 48 hours. I think the general consensus is at least a week on soy. That's one reason I dont like using soy you have to wait so long for it to cure. I'm sure someone else will chime in here soon. Good luck!!!
