ajl
Hi everyone,I made some 4oz hex jars about 2 months ago. They are scented with pink sugar from the candle source and all the bottoms and the wicks have gone a horrible brown colour. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what caused this and how I can prevent it?ThanksAngie.

carol k
do ya think it could be a reaction between the fo and what ever you use to stick your wick down with. i have not had that happen so this is just a guess.
ajl
I was just thinking the same thing carol. I've just finished melting them and pouring out the wax and the wick tabs are really rusted but the wax is fine.
enchantedflorest
Just wondering.... what did you use to stick the wick tabs to the bottom?
ajl
I was trying out a diy adhesive (no nails) using a tiny bit and leaving it overnight to set, then pouring the next day. Looks like it's back to the frustrating glue dots though.
Kaybee23
Try hot glue...I have a glue pot and have been using hot glue to secure the wicks in my jars for about 3 years now. Mine have only come loose when I heat the jars up in the oven to melt wax out of them.
Ashlie K
I use the 4 oz hex jars and I also use the glue gun. Never had a problem with it.
ajl
Thanks for the glue gun suggestion. I have one somewhere that my mum gave to me, just have to find it now :rolleyes2
topofmurrayhill
I've heard of reactions between some vanilla FOs and steel. For instance, candle tins rusting if they aren't the coated type. I wonder if the wick tabs could be corroding from the FO. Have you used this scent before? Here's a sample thread . http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6205
enchantedflorest
I use hot glue gun as well lesson learned though---- only use HIGH TEMP glue not low or multi temp. HTH
Georgia
I'm not sure if it is the same stuff you used, but the MSDS for Liquid Nails says it is extremely flammable and has all kinds of nasty chemicals in it. I would suspect a reaction from that.Forget glue dots - high temp glue or wick stick ems work great. Even clear silicone would be better, I think. It's not rust though, it discolors and won't clean off, even with mold cleaner.
Sharon in PA
I've had that happen to my Pink Sugar votives also, rusted out the wick tab. In fact, I've had all KINDS of weird stuff happen to my Pink Sugar candles! I think it's the oil!
latch
my pink sugar oil did the exact same thing, i think its the oil too.. i read somewhere pink sugar is bad for discoloring.
