  1. If I could just vent for a second. I am trying to complete my 2nd order through AH for glass. The 1st order was brutally painfull and I never wanted to try again. Unfortunatly after over a year they still owe me a refund (or credit whatever at this point) and I am hoping for that to be applied to this order. Not to mention I NEED there product. Sticky situation I tell ya. Anywho.... If anyone on here thinks to order from them beware and/or hopefully your area rep. is better then mine. If by any chance anyone has a few cases of 4oz emma jars they want to sell let me know. Desperate times call for desperate measures. (Im due to have 600 candles in another state by the 1st). Thanks for listening. Next time I'll try :lipsrseal
  2. Thank you so much Staicie. I am trying the 16oz cause thats the size I would like to carry (already have 8oz in different jar style). Anchor Hocking ----- just be warned... I have been waitting for a refund from them for over a year !!!!! The compnay filed bankrupcy and have been terrible with me !!! All my jars are from them so its frustrating. Anywho.... yah what a bummer the jar store quit carrying them. I am test burning the 16 oz by dbl wicking with CD6, 8, 10s. If you dont mind sharing advice did wicking more towards the center or further out on the sides work best for you? I am completely new to dbl wicking. :undecided
  3. Thank you for the input. I love the look of the jars but like I said --- everywhere I had found them they are discountinued either way somthing for me to play with instead of tackling big things I'd rather put off LOL. I think Im gonna try my testing at 2 1/2 hours maybe 3 I dunno. thanks again for the post.
  4. I am playing with new jars --playing because I think there discontinued. anywho.... its a rectangle jar 16oz. I know normally you measure the jar and when test burning you burn 1 hour per inch. How do you do that for rectangles?? Just wondering if anyone has any ideas. Its been a long time since Ive got to play on the internet for candles... for those who remember I was prego. I had a happy healthy 9lb er girl
  5. I dunno but the first post I read I thought ... the wick hunter
  6. Along time ago I was directed (I think through this site) to check out a website that actually advertised the soy ucks (wet spots, frosting, etc) as a marketing positive. I loved reading it and swore I put in my favorites for inspiration that soy just isnt perfect......... anywho - I cant find it any input
  7. Cant wait finally gonna take the plunge and do the website After the birth of my 2nd child in Decemeber Im finally gettin back on the candle wagon
  8. If this is in the wrong section sorry please move it I have been using the jar store for jars for 1 of my candle sizes since starting candles. 8oz clear metros with flat lids. Recently they made a "new and improved" version of the same jar and dont sell the old thinner version. Im bummed since the price went up (and shipping as well due to weight Im sure) by about 25cents a jar ........ So if that didnt make me mad enough .......... and heres the ???????? to you all.... wont the newer thicker jar throw off all my research for wicking. Ive been making "recipes" for almost a year now and have quite a few FO's master wicked. Any input from you guys if it will throw the wicking off ? Also in case anyone else is bummed ... I did find another supplier of the metro - www.fancycandlejars.com --- they will be almost 55 cents cheaper per jar then the new and improved jar store ones. !!!!!!!!
  9. I tried so many things and got sooooooo frustrated even with getting the stuff out of the bottle for the pour without spilling. My best solution for me so far..... I use pour spouts (my supplier carries some and so do many other sites, or I get them off old bottles around the house). Then I take the med size baby food jar - glass - they fit a perfect amount of FO for my max FO/3x batch which is the biggest batch I make (3lbs/pour pot)- I think they fit 4 oz. Anywho... I have 1 for each FO, magic marker on the lid what FO each is, and keep them and reuse and reuse - just put the lid back on after each use. Its worked for 6 months so far and I love the FO isnt gone. You can get the jars for .50 at any store - if you get apple sauce I found recipes you can use with baby food apple sauce - for adults. Or you can find them at thrift store for next to free---- or my solution - keep having babies
  10. One more vote for high temp glue gun.... though I have to admit here and there when I marathon burn I have found one in the corner of the jar. Still its my way of choice.
  11. Great job they look beautiful..... I use those jars as well and love them as far as look and ease of wicking
  12. I had to say !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at 1st I had to re-read this ---- I have my candles for sale in the Dells --- but happily I know it wasnt me cause I havent been there that long and I dont use such advertising LOL. Scary thought though for a candlemaker.
  13. Can someone explain a tad about tempa curing idea. I searched on this site but found nothing.
  14. Searching for ins. in WI currently and wondered if you ever found anything positive for good rate or even accepting to ins. you?
  15. My business is set up as an LLC but I really dont think anymore you can count on the outcome basing just off an LLC. I have not yet found insurance in my area but am starting to look into it. It is realllllllllllly hard to find. Any one with input on ins. for WI?
  16. I did the marathon burns especially towards the end were I thought it would be the hottest and matter the most to safety. I had trimmed the wick 1st though and then burned it for 10 or so hours. I tested and tested and this wicks gives the best overall burn-----but you have to trim it sometime. I have 400 candles out there and am at a total loss if I feel comfortable now selling them :undecided With looking at that wick at the way bottom of the jar and thinking it had been burning for 10+ hrs I just cant imagine how flippin hot that jar was!!!!!!!! I'm/their lucky it didnt shatter. With the literature I have in the booth and on the warning label, any input on the legal stand point of it??? I love making candles and think (thought) I had a great product but I dont need to lose my house and life over this
  17. I'll try to make this long story short.... This month is my 1st month in any shop. I went today to re-stock, shop had bought and burned a 8oz container candle (soy) and placed it in my recycle basket (not for re-sale just testing). I noticed the inside was a little black. Asked how it burned for them..... the only thing they really said was it got really hot towards the bottom-reallllly hot so they had to blow it out. OK------ at first I was concerned.... then I looked closer (if I had time I'd take a pic and show you all) - the wax is burned to approx. 1/4in from bottom, THE WICK IS 1 INCH LONG! and its very clear by the amount of wick pcs in the bottom of the jar they never cut the wick. So as Im looking at it she says - we burnt it like we always do, light it at store open and blow it out when we close---- THATS 8-10 HOURS! So I tell her candles should only be burned a max of 4 hrs at a time and should always be trimmed to 1/4in before each burn. She says -- do you have any literature stating that --- I say yes, only the bottom of the candle and a sign in the booth. "OOO guess I didnt read any of that". So my issue--- if the owner/employee wont read anything and burns it like my word Im scared of what the consumers pay attention to. I always new the theory that nobody reads the info stuff but come on..... I'm scared to sell them now what if what if what if. Also now that I re-read my warning label I dont like the wording it makes it sound like min. of 4 hrs with no max ---------- UGHHHHH! I bought them from a well known suppliers SOY CONTAINER WARNING: Warning! Natural Wax is attractive to animals. Keep away from pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep out of reach of children. Keep wax free of matches, wick trimmings & flammable materials. Do not move while candle is burning or wax is hot. Failure to follow instructions could result in fire, injury, or smoke damage. For optimal burn: Reduce soot by trimming the wick to 1/4 " and centering the wick each time the candle is lit. Do not burn in drafty areas. Candle should remain lit for a minimum of 3-4 hours each time it is burned. Do not extinguish candle with lid. Important: To prevent damage, discontinue candle when 1/2" of wax remains. This sign is up in my booth.... Directions for a Safe and Efficient Burn READ WARNING LABEL ON BOTTOM OF JAR. For all candles, trim wick to 1/4 inch prior to each burn. For 4oz. candles burn for minimum of 2 and maximum of 4hours. For 8oz. candles burn for minimum of 2 1/2 and maximum of 4 hours. Discontinue burning when 1/2 inch wax remains. FOLLOW ALL WARNING LABEL DIRECTIONS ON BOTTOM OF JAR. All right Im done, I guess that didnt stay very short..... can anyone tell me what to do? Im scared to sell now. Do you think I covered my bases in writing? Any input would be WELL appreciated. :undecided
  18. Thankx for all the replies, I'll try to think of something crafty and use the beans -- they do sound easier for clean up and in craft malls I cant imagine they'd like it much to have that to clean up. Thanks again ---- man I love this board
  19. I did a search but couldnt come up with anything.... probably cause it dont matter --- but for those of you that do shows or have shops/booths, do you have coffee grounds available to clear the sniffer? Even more precise - do you prefer grounds or beans? Had to ask
  20. WHOOO HOOOO --- I am giving it a try next pour at "normal" pour speed - I actually stand there everytime trying to be as patient as possible but man --- there is not enough time in a day to pour slow LOL. I had thought of all the reasons listed plus some, jar adhesion, wick adhesion, and some more I cant think of now. To me splashing some soy on me would be fine to get the quickness of just pouring the wax into the jar. + with soy you normally are pouring at a temp that wouldnt be sooo bad to get a little on ya. Thank you all for chiming in --- anyone else feel free to add on.
  21. I was pouring candles today.... over the past 2 weeks I have poured 400 which is ALOT for me. While I was pouring and my back and feet were aching and my baby/tummy was saying just eat the damn yummy smelling candle I thought ----- and why does it say "pour slowly" when filling the jars with wax. - how slow is slow? I thought of alot of reasons that MAY be why the wax directions say to pour slowly into the jar but - huh does it matter? Just wondering if anyone has any input on this.
  22. Thank you both I'll try the fridge then reconsider the type of mold, then MAYBE add the other wax (just doing it to use up extra wax, it wouldnt be worth the time or math to figure out how much etc etc to add). Thanks again.
  23. A couple ?s to anyone who has enough time to reply (wow have the boards slowed since the summer season hit)..... I just started playing with tarts to use up the extra wax after my pours (had been saving it in bags for later use or something LOL) anywho, I wanted something that went with my theme - I found butterfly and daisy molds for candy, plastic sheets. the butterfly and 1 of the daisy dont seem to work, I think its to thin of a depth and the wax doesnt get thick enough not to break when I pop them out? The other 2 seem to work alright and are alot deeper cut shapes. SO ? time.... Anyone see any good butterfly or daisy molds that seem they'd work well. Do you all clean the mold sheets and if so how? Ive been just trying to scrape out what I can. And whats you experience with tarts --- is it best just to go with clamshell things and just have no theme-ness to them? Do you use mold release? I use EL 100% classic container soy. thanks all and enjoy the summer huh
  24. I use hot glue gun as well lesson learned though---- only use HIGH TEMP glue not low or multi temp. HTH
