sudsnwicks
While most of my candles which have sat around for a while either stay the same or get stronger, I have noticed a couple of scents which have faded. Is this normal? Is this the nature of certain scents? They were just fine when the candles were new.
Meridith
I think some scent do fade over time more than others. That is why I like to keep candles covered and don't much care for pillars - IMO the scent tends to fade. Also, I think that some candles may not seem like they smell as strong as they are but one you light them, you can smell them more than you thought you would. sudsnwicks
Thanks Meridith! The faders were in jars which were tightly capped so I can't imagine where the scent would have gone to. The same scents, in votives (bagged) are still fine. Puzzling.
SoapInTheCity
I've actually been quite dissapointed with essential oils in soap making. I wanted to really go with the 'natural' element of soaping and use mostly essential oils, but I have found the scent fades quite quickly. I don't know why! Scented
SOme of it might be evaporating a little bit. Heck if it can evaporate out of bottle I don't see why it can't evaporate out of a candle, regardless if pillar or jar.
sudsnwicks
Scented: That must be it. Evaporation. Sigh.SoapInTheCity: I've actually had pretty good luck with EOs in soap making. A bit of fading over time, but nothing significant enough to cause disappointment.
Fire and Ice
The other day I found one of the first candles I ever made with an E/O of clove. I uncapped it and was happy to note that the scent was still VERY strong in that candle. I disguarded E/O in my soy wax because they wouldn't burn right, even with no color. The candle was four years old.
